Because I’m An Honorable Guy

I’ve paid my debt to the PensBlog.  It hurt, but I did it.  And I feel I was able to share some of your sentiments.

November 11th was a great night for hockey. Hopefully, the 6,000 American viewers who watched on Gary’s barnyard-porn/outdoor life network will spread the word that when two great teams get together—even in the regular season—it’s as good a spectacle as you’ll find in sports.

But November 11th doesn’t equal June whatever the hell the day was that we won the Cup. It just doesn’t.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself today.

More here.

I’m so sick of hearing about hockey in Detroit.  You have a good team but the fans suck.  Hockeytown, my ass!  The Stanley Cup Champs, the best player in the league (Malkin) comes to town, and the place is half empty.  Pathetic!

what do you think… good ol’ don’t-look-back-&-get-my-stick-lifted-turnover-to-game-loser datsyuk is?

as a pens fan, I’ve got some respect for alot of DET players; Franzen (incredible player), Ass in your goalie’s face Holmstrom, Filppula, St. Nik, Capet matches the Drapes, Conker, and M. Samuelsson…

but lets face it… DET’s depth is what makes that team… take your Zett-Dats-Hosshit line and replace the 2,3,4 with mediocre players and you guys are mud.

thanks for the recap, Charlie and myself were pleased.

That’s funny, the funniest thing I’ve read all week was your coach:

“I thought it was going to be over.  Then we self-destructed.”

...............

Oh, and your “backup” goalie:
“There was some serious turnover, but they’re still a pretty good team,” said Red Wings goalie Ty Conklin, the Penguins’ backup last season to starter Marc-Andre Fleury. “I certainly wouldn’t bet against that group, the guys in that locker room that I know. A lot of real high character guys in there.

“I wouldn’t bet against them.” cool smirk

first and foremost, let me start by saying i’d appreciate if you guys would lay off the accusations that myself and Captain Sidney Crosby are close, or in league, in any way, shape or form…

lastly, you all should know that I favor Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins, and will do anything to make him the face of the NEW NHL… I would even go so far as to nominate him president of the United States.

so, there you have it… I, Gary Bettman officially endorse;

Didn’t you know? Because they have The Golden Boy, the Stanley Cup is now rightfully theirs until the end of time. There’s no argument about it! Their loss last year in the SCF has thrown the universe out of whack, and soon a black hole will develop and suck away everyone but the Penguins and their bandwagon fans.

It’s funny, I went to a Wings/Pens game at Mellon (aka The Other Dump) in 2003 and it was pretty funny not seeing anyone in the stands, even with Lemieux playing. Those fans sure have a lot to talk about when it comes to not filling a building before Golden Boy came along and has “saved” their franchise. But, none of those “fans” even cared about the team in 2003, let alone knew what hockey was.

I remember when Zetterberg scored in that game against Fleury, it was his 1st year in the league. Some kid turned around to us and said he was another player the Wings had “bought” with their millions. I had to subtlely remind him that Hank was indeed a draft pick.

Let them be happy for beating the Wings. I remember last year when the Wings beat the Ducks, it felt good, but in the end, it didn’t cash a check to the Finals (although one could argue that since it actually happened). Kudos to their team for not quitting, but in the end all it ended up being was two points. Before I left the Joe last night, I looked up and saw the 2007-08 Stanley Cup banner, and I felt better about everything.

Very nice, Chief.

“It’s uncharacteristic, the way we’ve been playing without the puck in our own zone,” Osgood said. “We’re just cycling around in our own end. If we continue this all year, we’re not going to go anywhere in the playoffs.

“But let’s put it in perspective and let’s not overreact to the situation. We’re playing teams that are gunning for us every night, and we’re not even playing good defensively. Are we going to play like this in April? No, I 100% guarantee that. When you look back on these games, it’ll probably be a good thing for us. They taught us a lesson, slapped us down a bit.”

Is it just me or has HStJ been churning out some good stuff lately?

I would like to see a game without lidstrom and rafalski in the lineup.  Pens would wipe the floor with the wings, esp if gonch and whitney were back.

Both the teams are good, and the rivalry is great. Good to see some fancy bickering like this.

Here’s the thing that I have not seen from Penguins fans, either here or on their home blogs.  While I’m sure there are a few people saying it and a few more people thinking it; you can rest assured that the 19 of us at the A2Y would not still be bragging about a 7-6 overtime victory, no matter who the opponent or how exciting the game.

We’d be thanking our lucky stars that we were able to pull off a game like that and be talking about what the hell happened that made us give up 6 goals.  Let go of the thrills for a second and take stock of what really happened on Tuesday.  Two good teams made themselves look ridiculous while making the other team look very good.  Being on the losing end of that tilt makes it much easier for us to say that this should be the team’s wakeup call.  Are the Penguins mature enough as a team to realize that they have a lot to learn from this as well?

Meanwhile, on the Ocho (er, TSN2): The Pens and Wings took Rememberance Day to a whole new level by remembering what the NHL was like in 1988-89. 7-6 in overtime after the Wings blew a 5-2 lead in the third. Yzerman to Gallant looked like the winner until Lemieux set up Robbie Brown for the tying goal, then won it in overtime himself. Yowza.

What continues to amaze (and annoy) me is the Pens fans that constantly give Detroit crap about game attendance.  NEWS FLASH:  If Cros-baby had landed in any other city in North America THERE WOULD BE NO PITTSBURGH PENGUINS TODAY…therefore who knows where Malkin would have ended up, and all those idiots that come on here and talk smack (poorly) about a franchise never on the cusp of leaving town (something that has happened TWICE in Pittsburgh) they would be cheering on the FLYERS instead of trying to convince everyone that because they won the draft lottery a couple years ago, that they are the new Mecca of hockey.  Get real, and get off our board…you’re all a bunch of morons.

Patriots. You guys have everybody. Detroit, for whatever reason is an all-star team..for now. I think that at the end of this season, the poison that is Marian Hossa will spread and you guys will feel the pain of free agency. You will be victimized by the idiot GMs offering 10 million a yr. or more and THEN I won’t hate your team so badly.  You assholes though, are pretty fuggin funny. Seriously, every Pen fan hates Hossa but not because he left money on the table or because he’s good.  It’s because he ‘sold his soul at a discount price’ to the Red Wings.  You don’t see this form of hatred for Malone or Hall or any of the other number or ex-Pens who have moved on.  Nope, it’s soley for Hossa.  They talk about how he’s a whore for teams.  And this is supposed to be a surprise for us?  It’s the same rage filled reasoning that I spoke about yesterday.  I think it makes Pens fans feel just a little bit smaller to know that their team wasn’t good enough for all these players to want to stay.  I know their excuse will be that they probably couldn’t keep them all because of the salary cap and what not but you know what?  I don’t see any of those guys offering themselves up to stay with the Pens at a discounted rate.  Hmmmmm….I wonder why that is?

And now that I’ve engaged full-fledged mud slinging mode, I feel much better about myself.
