Bruce MacLeod: The Anti-Digger

The man is on fire.  He started his Red Wing Corner blog less than a week ago and immediately solidified himself as the credible source of info amongst Wing beat writers.  He can’t be described as a Deep Digger, because he’s too good.  Case in point, this afternoon.  Bad news on Bertuzzi and, for Flame fans, Regehr.

Calgary defenseman Robyn Regehr didn’t skate again, Wednesday, and isn’t expected to play Game 1 of the playoffs against Detroit Thursday. Regehr injured his knee in a game last Thursday and hasn’t skated since. When healthy, Regehr will match up against the Wings’ top line of Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom.

Forward Todd Bertuzzi won’t dress for Thursday’s Game 1 against Calgary. “I don’t think he has any chance of playing tomorrow,” said Detroit coach Mike Babcock after Wednesday’s practice. “We’re day-to-day. We think he’ll have an opportunity to play on Sunday.”

MacLeod’s status has been a topic of discussion here for a while. Credible, factual, timely and actually a very good writer. He definitely doesn’t fit our glossary’s definition of a deep digger.

4. Deep Diggers
Abel to Yzerman was founded on the premise that the Wing beat writers suck, and suck it hard. We have little faith in their abilities to ask the difficult question, search our the story below the surface, or even do their jobs on most days. But we protect them, for they are ours. We blast them and complain about them, but rely on them for information. It’s an awkward relationship we, the fans, have with this unusual group. They, the Wing beat writers, are the Deep Diggers.

For now he is: Bruce MacLeod, Anti-Digger…until one of you geniuses comes up with something different.

Maybe the hockey gods have given some indulgence to my offerings.  Although Bert is not likely to appear until Sunday, with Regehr out for game one also; I think the Wings will suffer their loss less than the Flame.  Hank playing and no Regehr, the Wings chances of winning game one just improved!!!  More offerings to the hockey gods forthcoming.

We could call him the Filler… since it’s the opposite of digger…

TeamDub, I am 30 minutes east of Lawton, and I did my basic there as well 13R.  Where in Ohio, my Mother was raised there.  Felt sorry for her on Mich/Ohio St weekend while I was growing up.  Lately though she must be smiling in heaven and paying me back ten-fold.

Aha Jeff… 13M, although the discovery of a genetic blood issue (somehow missed in the 14 gallons they took ay the Cleveland MEPS) forced me out. I’m in Toledo and am still not quite over the double Fl. losses… let’s just leave it alone. 8 )

By any stretch of the imagination did you cross paths with one Drill Sgt. Marvin Brown? He was a mean little SOB…

TeamDub:  Its been 20 yrs ago since I trained, do not recall one Sgt. Brown.  But I think they were all S.O.B.‘s.  Toledo, driven through there many times to visit Mom’s family.  By coincidence saw my first rock concert at the Toledo Motor Speedway, R.E.O. and Foghat.  And stranger still going to see R.E.O. here in OKLA on May 4.  Ah the strange ties that bind.  I asked Scott Cullen at TSN what the team winning percentages are for home teams opening with a win; over 70%!!!  Wings must win game one!!!  Check out the link, my question is near the bottom http://tsn.ca/fantasy_news/columnists/scott_cullen/?ID=203757  or check TSN fantasy news

Jeff -

I currently live about one mile from the Speedway, nice to hear the cars/concerts in the summer.

bruce has been passing along this info for quite a while and is truly a 1 stop shop for accurate info.  For the last few months, i usually find myself, reading a daily detailed report of who was at practice, what the team was working on, what line combinations were being used,  whos dinged up,  whos skating whos starting.  Not to mention the unusual stats like “drawn peanlties” and goals/time on ice. Bruce is truly one of the best.
