And so really it boils down to three games, starting tonite in front of a raucous, toothless, mostly related and phonics-challenged crowd of baby-poop clad Bubbas and Bubbettes.

As I stated earlier, the Detroit News doesn’t care.  As I’ve stated MANY times earlier, 99.9 percent of the state of Tennessee doesn’t care either.  But the fact remains, they have to play tonite.  Little Gary says so, despite the same injuries that plagued the same teams (with a few more thrown in for Detroit) as the last time.

Back to who cares and who doesn’t.  Barry Trotz cares.  Oh, he wants this division. He wants it so bad he’d put his neckless head on the chopping block and play Peter Forsberg if it meant he’d miss the rest of the year.

But Floppa doesn’t want to, so he won’t.

Who else cares? Oh, I suppose there are a few Nashville faithful who understand the significance and want that number 1 seed.  Then again, there are a few more who are a tad confused.

He roots for the Predators against 28 other NHL teams, but when it comes to Detroit, Hermitage’s Dean Campeotto just can’t seem to get the red out of his blood.

It’s hard to blame the guy.

Not hard for me.  Eat it Dean.  You don’t “root for Nashville” until Detroit comes to town, then all of a sudden switch back to the chick you took to the barn dance in the first place even if she’s your cousin and your brother kinda knows her too.

Here’s what you do Dean.  You hope Nashville loses every time they play the other 28. And when they do, you remind your co-workers at the Pump and Smoke that you’re a Michigan boy and a Wing fan, as if they’d understand.  You revel in the Wings’ success and you take pride in your allegiance in enemy territory. 

Speaking of enemy territory.  I ventured into some last night, deep in the heart of Cap Land.  Met up with a few DC bloggers at a local establishment and was immediately reminded that Cap fans, generally and humorously, dislike the Wings.  Biff from the Kevin Hatcher Fan Club threatened me with physical violence, as did the DC Sports Chick.  Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and I was spared.  Great group of very dedicated fans. 

Had an interesting conversation with one of the founders of On Frozen Blog (home to the greatest banner in blogdom).  He brought up the idea that our boy Pavel is close to his boy Alex and that the two boys may want to play in the same tree house. Ovechkin to the Wings?  Ummm, no.

I think he was suggesting that the Caps were interested in signing Datsyuk, as opposed to the other way around… they’re definitely searching for a first-line center.
