Buck Up Little Skippy…The Game’s Better

The Godfather’s NHL.com blog has been updated with some words of advice for all of us.  Simply:  look at the game today, compare it to the trap era and keep an open mind.  Our league is improving.  Jethro may not realize it yet because he’s counting back tattoos on NASCAR infields, but he will eventually.

Woops…sorry if I offended any puck bunnies with back tattoos.

An excerpt from Paul’s column this morning.

The NHL game as we know it in the “modern NHL” is not perfect. Is it improving? Without a doubt. All we have to do is go back a few years and remember the clutching and grabbing, the constant interference and the frustration many of us felt when the star players could not showcase their talent on the ice. The hack-and-wack type guy was “hot” three-10 years ago, now we have the pure skater and passer, the foundation of the game, making a well-deserved comeback. If you couldn’t win the game a few years ago, you tried to beat the team into submission, to prove a point and make sure you weren’t beat again (which rarely happened).

Oh, and while I’m add it I’ll direct your attention to the blog roll on the port side.  There are a few new sites I’d recommend.  In no particular order they are:

Southeast Shootout: a joint effort between the SE Division bloggers.
On Frozen Blog: a fantastic hockey blog out of DC. Speaking of which, A2Y will soon be a fantastic Wings blog out of DC.
Puttin’ On The Foil: tell me that name doesn’t get you there.  The writing will bring you back.
Crazy Canucks Podcast: the nutjobs in Vancouver have found another way to spread their goodwill
8 Feet: James Gunner’s blog has moved to this new, polished looking spot.

You’re moving?  Great, now I’ll have to put up with your carcass driving down to R’lyeh whenever the Red Wings are at the RBC.

(I kid, of course)

BTW, 8 Feet isn’t JJ’s gig. JJ’s still in the same old place—8 Feet is run by James Gunner (who relocated from Blogspot).

AQ: Thanks for the assist.  And you don’t actually think it would be safe for me in R’lyeh, do ya?

It’ll be fine, trust me. The Sabres fans that tried to burn down the RBC during the last six games their team played there make Red Wings fans look like saints, so as long as you don’t toss any rotting sushi on the ice you’re fine.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
