Checking In

Morning.  Vacation has taken me away from hockey, but only for two more days.  In case you’re wondering what could possibly distract me?

Look out.  I bought a boat.  Now we have to name it.  Obviously, your suggestions are welcome.

Navy guys drive like maniacs, so I hope everyone sharing the water gets out of your way.  smile

Names for a boat ... hmmmmm ...

short name = PuckHead (or even PukHed, although that looks a little like “puked,” which isn’t something that I like to think about in connection with water)

long name = Relentless Forecheck

inside joke name = Jackass Gary B.  (might not work if a buddy thinks you are talking about him - or it might make the name even better, I don’t know)

difficult to spell name = Cephalopod

bad names = Titanic, Edmund F.

name for when the engine is busted and you hate the boat = Sidney

name for when the day is sunny, the breeze is pleasant, and everything is runnign smoothly = Stanley

Make em think.

Congrats on the purchase!
Now ya need one of them big inflatable thingies to tow behind and teach your kids the meaning of all sorts of things like “fear”, “we’re only doing 20kph”, “faster?!”, “it’s smoother in the wake”, etc.

Just stay away from the olde “Hold my beer and watch this category”.

Why are boat names usually feminine?
Because ultimately, they will break your heart and your bank account?

How about “Ms.Chief”?

Nah, I didn’t think so either….boat names that include puns are
(a) kinda gay
(b) totally lame
(c) all of the above

“Boat Names?”

Depends on the boat, Chief.  What kind of ship are you sailing?

Dougie, that’s a fantastic name for a boat.

I should probably stop skimming posts.

Ice Rinker(if thats your make) - might be a bit to cute tho.

I also second Osrt’s suggestion of Dynasty. I think thats got my vote so far.

I worked at a Marina in Bay City over summers between college semesters. The best name I came across was “Bow-chic-a-bow-bow”. But
“Sportin’ Wood” on an old wooden Chris-Craft was a close second.

Rather you’re out boating than being a Cementslinger building your patio this weekend.  I know it Kosta bunch but I hope it didn’t Baroque your bank account, that would drive you to drinking and becoming a Rumbear, tossing back Hot hockeytownToddies from your rwwingsCup19.  I’m sure the boat BobS up and down on the Potomac waves while you search for mudsharks and cephalopods,  just tighten everything down with your OklahomaWingNuts.  By GeorgeJamesMalik, at least you weren’t sitting around your house all weekend watching dougie Houser with your hockeychic wife, or listening to old HippyDave music like Peter, PaulInMiamiBeach and Mary.

Did you trade your old car for the boat even-SteveNJ?  Skanks love boaters even OlderThanChelios, you can keep your eyesris on them and even monkey with them and slip them your PeteK, but you’ll catch SYF-illis quicker than you can say jrl123, and it stays with you like lilja-forever, even if you wipe yourself off with a ScottH tissue.  People will call you a scheisskopf.  Heed this advice from the Holy Messenger Gabriel: Better to settle for a blO-Joe, a BJ or a JJ from Kansas.  Just get back to A2Y and A II R and A from AA ASAP.  We want to read MOWings and MOWings from ABC to XYzermanZetterberg.

(I tried like Hell to fit Osrt in that mix somehow).

Ok, I stayed out of this long enough….

My Dad’s CC was kinda big, and he originally had a partner.  I alway’s liked the name, and I guess he did too, because he stuck with it long after his boating partner went independent. ‘Thirsty Too’

I always thought a boats name should be a little mysterious and inspire the imagination, like
‘Wait ‘til Next Year’....
but
That is a lot of painting, and it would be nice if you could use the boat before the boating season ends.

And of course,

You could win a lifetime of good will if you just surrender, and name it after your wife.  She will be thrilled that you obviously did not buy the boat for any Gary Hart shenanigans…It may also get you an occasional inside/outside sleeve job, and Hockey tickets for your birthday and X-mas.
