Gary Bettman deserves your scorn. And, thankfully, you give it to him frequently.
But I’ve been knocked down a peg today. One of the 19, RWBill, posted an image in the comments of this post that explains the innocent mistake Gary’s crack staff made last evening.
Even the most astute of commissioners can’t be blamed for mistaking Nick Lidstrom for Dick Lindstrom.

I hope I did that right. I know I’m kind of new around these parts, so I don’t know if anyone has made this comparison before, but c’mon, he looks JUST like the Penguin, except Bettman has less hair and smaller balls.

119 penalty minutes in 63 games is impressive. especially his second season, 74 in 30 games!

Nope. Pee-Wee Herman, yes (I mean, lookit him! Same damn expression and everything, all that’s missing in the public indecency bust in a Florida porn theater!). But not The Penguin-- though you’d have a hard time tying his likeness to that of Burgess Meredith.

The more I think about this the more impressive the NHL’s screw up is. Ignoring the fact he’s already won the Norris five previous times, where do you even get a “Lindstrom” jersey? They have to have boxes of “Lidstrom” jerseys sitting in a warehouse ready to be shipped out to sporting good stores. Which means some idiot cocked up and special ordered a “Lindstrom” instead of just having a normal one shipped to Toronto. Way to go the extra distance boys.

I think Gary uses botox or something, by the way. His forehead is unnaturally un-furrowed and his cheeks are a little too rosy for a man who spends most of his time scowling and being photographed making vaguely phallic gestures with his hands. He’s the Axl Rose of Hockey, and I’m an Eagles of Death Metal fan.
