Word is out from a variety of sources on a few topics of importance to you and your family.
First, as many of you have already discussed in comments below: Zetterberg, Holmstrom and Maltby all stayed home.
...got ahold of Wings general manager Ken Holland and he said forwards Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Holmstrom and Kirk Maltby are not on this road trip.
Zetterberg saw a back specialist who told him his injury isn’t significant, just inflammation, and prescribed rest. The Wings are hoping he can get back on the ice Monday, after they return from this three-game trip, but are calling his status day-to-day. He missed the last 19 games of the regular season a year ago with a similar injury.
“Each day it gets better,’‘’ Holland said.
Holmstrom had further tests on the bone bruise in his right knee and will be out a minimum of two more weeks.
“He has a very deep knee bruise,’’ Holland said.
A “minimum of two weeks” for a bruised Homer. That’s 7, maybe 8, games to you and me. All against the West. Two with the Blues. Two with the Dive. Two with Dallas. Not good.
And good to hear that each day Zetterberg’s back “gets better.” It’s been four days now. Guess that’s a lot of getting better to do.
Better news.
TSN reports the captain’s deal is for 150K/year less than he’s making now.
Lidstrom will earn US$7.45-million a year under terms of his new deal. He is making $7.6 million this season.
Class move and more kudos to Holland.

I meant “Of”, I was “afraid of this”. Sigh, proofreading before posting is always a plus.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Great news on Nick.
With both Hank and Maltby down with back inflamations, and Homer with his knee, guys like Cleary, Filpulla, Franzen, and Hudler must step up and produce. It is a chance for Matt Ellis to show what he can do.
The smart money says they will do just that.
