First, right off the hop, let me apologize for a factual error in last night’s Live Blog. I made a reference to the fact that I’m glad our team, the Detroit Red Wings, hasn’t been bent over to the tune of a 9-0 cumulative score over their last two games. Because of that error, the reference may have been lost on some of you. Point of fact? The reigning Stanley Cup champions had actually lost their last two to the tune of 8-0. Again, I apologize for confusing you.
Of course, if you go ahead and add in their 5-2 loss prior to their consecutive shutouts? That makes it even worse, which makes me warm.
Hey, classy Pens fans. Have no fear. As you like to say, it’s still very chilly in the D. And, whew, you’ve still got us by five points in the overall standings. And don’t worry about those two extra games you’ve played. You’re still the champs. We still respect you. 13-2 your last three games? Don’t fret. You can, however, suck it.
Well, hell. Let’s not get all morose talking about a team that’s playing like crap. Happier thoughts await. Let’s do this. Subtract the Toronto game for just a moment. Take it away. Forget that Voox and JJ jinxed us. Forget that the Wings continued a trend of going prison skinny guy at the ACC and just erase that for the very brief time being.
Because if you do? Jeez. We’re looking at a Wing team that’s allowed no more than one goal in four games. We’re looking at a Wing team that, suddenly, has outscored their opponents (Boston and San Jose, ahem, being two of them) 14-3. And let’s examine one more ditty, if you please.
Columbus, San Jose, Chicago, Washington, Vancouver: all teams expected to compete for the Cup, or at least their division titles, and all teams vanquished.
Losses to St. Louis, Colorado, Buffalo, Phoenix and Toronto: all teams that no one, and I mean no one…even now when you consider Denver’s hot start…expects to be there in May.
And last night? Another little brother told to run home and get their shine box.
But it’s going to take a miracle to get home ice. A miracle. Even better, according to some bloggers, the Wings won’t even make the playoffs, right? Who’s standing by that? Anyone?
Table that. It’s November. I’m sure stress awaits us. I’m certain those dumb and bitter enough to actually predict the Wings won’t crack the top 8 in the West will be rewarded come April. No doubt about that. We’ll just wait it out and prepare to give credit where and when due.
In the meantime, I’m not sure if you’ve seen this. As you may be aware, A2Y has many fans within the city of Denver. Many, many fans. They write us emails sometimes and it’s fun. But of all those die-hard readers and hockey savants, one has been with us through good and bad times. Darren Garcia. As you may recall, DG had a spot of trouble with the Denver vice squad a few years back. But, indications from Dive bloggers were that he’d reformed himself. Awesome. Dammit…not so fast.
The Denver District Attorney’s office today charged a 29-year-old man with working as a prostitute despite knowing he is HIV-positive.
Darren Garcia also faces felony drug possession charges.
Prosecutors said that Garcia was arrested Nov. 6 after offering to perform a sex act on an investigator for $50. He possessed crack cocaine at the time of his arrest, prosecutors said.
He has been arrested numerous times on prostitution charges, according to the District Attorney’s office.
He remains in the Denver County Jail under $75,000 bond.
Hey. Whoa. I’m not proud to give you news like that. It brings me no joy. All we’re doing is following up. Following up.
Obviously, we’ll be following this tragic story as it continues. Stay strong Dive fans. Support your brother.
Speaking of DG and Dive fans. How about some BJ news?
After last night’s episode in Columbus, Bob Hunter’s trying to calm the faithful. How? By reminding them that Little Gary Bettman has created the circumstances under which they have a good chance to thrive.
The best thing for fans to do is forget about this stinker and keep reminding themselves that the Red Wings and Blue Jackets are no longer living on different planets.
“(The salary cap) is a huge friend for us,” Hitchcock said. “It’s allowed the Carolinas and other franchises to contend for the Stanley Cup and win it.”
It has also helped beef up the Blue Jackets roster. The only reason the Jackets have R.J. Umberger and backup goaltender Mathieu Garon is because their former teams didn’t have the cap room to retain them.
9-1? Forget it.
When Blue Jackets fans made the short trek from the arena to the Arena District bars to drown their sorrows, here’s hoping they still offered a toast to the salary cap.
As hard as it was to see it, it really is their new best friend.
Exactly. When you have no chance at building your franchise via traditionally proven ways, when scouting, quality drafting and organ-I-zational consistency isn’t cutting it and you really want to be competitive? Have no fear. Gary’s salary cap to the rescue. It really is “your new best friend.”
Should be interesting to see how Osgood bounces back from the game we’re not speaking of. And I guess we’re curious about how well Drew Miller’s gonna fit in. According to Khan(!), he was highly endorsed by the Unibomber and his friend Brad May. That should make Baroque happy.
“(May and Bertuzzi) gave him strong endorsements and our video coach (Keith McKittrick) has been involved with him (at MSU),” Babcock said. “They all thought he was a player who was intelligent, could play all parts of the game and it would be a boost to our team. He can play the game offensively and defensively and he can skate, so he should help us.”
And, he’s making 525 on a two-way. So, you know, that’s kinda cool too.
Luongo in net tonite? No clue. One of the Sedin sisters headed back to Vancouver with a foot thing though. Hey. Sammy’s back in town tonite bitches. Allegedly the Joe has some lively boards, so stand by for some William Tell ping pong at the Joe.

I say no. He left under good terms, and he will hit one of the Canucks on the jaw with an errant shot soon enough. I’m happy he’s doing well out in Vancouver.

I loved your blog a couple years ago. It was cheeky and fun. Now it is a joke. I am neither a Pens nor Avs fan so there goes that excuse. Every one of your posts comes off as a big whine fest. It isn’t humorous anymore it’s annoying. Go back to reporting the wings without bashing other teams (is pens, avs) every single post.
And that whole salary cap thing is a joke too. Carolina got to the finals in 2002 playoffs. No Salary cap then. Also, player salaries now are close to what they used to be. The wings won the cup 2 years ago when there was a salary cap. Didn’t seem to affect them then.

It was cheeky and fun
Definition of cheeky, to be clear:
adj., -i·er, -i·est.
Impertinently bold; impudent and saucy.
He was never “cheeky,” even a few years ago - he was always cutting, sarcastic, and snarky. You must be thinking of some other hoekcy blog.
And unless you are paying him to write what you want, don’t try telling him what to do. If you don’t like to read it, just go away, please.

As to Garcia, in 07 he offered to perform a sex act on an officer for $30, now it’s up to $50. It really is a ridiculous how much avs tickets cost these days.

Yeah, what are Vegas odds on either of the Sedin twiglets? Or Bobby Lou? I may want a piece of that action is all I’m sayin’. Miller Lite may be a case of a warm body that hasn’t yet done something unhealthy to his groin, but frankly I don’t think he’ll unwrap his Wonka Bar and find a Golden Ticket. I think if he can make sure our fourth line has three guys skating on it instead of two, and keep the puck from finding its way into our zone too often, I’ll call him a success no matter what former Schmucks have to say about him. Anything else is just gravy. Gravy on his Wonka Bar. Besides, if all goes according to plan medically, he’ll be a Griff or Gone by March anyway.
Uh, Chief, when was A2Y ‘cheeky and fun?’ I think I missed that era. Was it when you were on Blogger, or did I miss a post on freshlypressed.org? Must have been during The Great Silence, because for as long as I’ve been reading it (and that’s a loooong time, son), it’s always been biting and sarcastic and sniping at other teams and other players. Sometimes even our own team and our own players. The minute this place becomes ‘cheeky and fun,’ I’m outta here like a shot.

And hockeyinhd: i’d say those odds are right on the money. Good thing I’m not a “pro blogger”, which means I can blog whenever the fu** I feel like it. As we’re all aware, the day after a wing loss is not typically a time that I “feel like it.”

I’m trying to find the parade coverage on tv? is it Versus, Direct TV , or NHL Classics, i cant remember? It’s good to see that a win in November can spur the hopes of even wings fans though…i guess this means its a new start to the Tuesday count down?
and i’d rather a team lose 8-0 over two games in November than back to back 2-1’s in late June. but that’s just the realist in me…9-1 any day is still fun to watch….

Voox: a lot of times, like yesterday, I’ll read the comments on my blackberry while on travel. Frequently, I’ll be able to read them but won’t have the capability to respond. Then, when I finally get to a location where I can sit down or whatever, you guys will have either handled it (like yesterday and the friggiong idiot who had the stupidity to stick his head into the lion’s den) or I’ll have completely forgotten about it and missed the chance to respond.
Since we’re on the subject, I read every comment (despite what has been hinted at here the last month or so by a certain member of the 19)...if that matters. And I can tell you there have been hundreds of times over the last two years where I’ve had to explain school-girl giggles to people who really don’t have a need to know about A2Y, if you catch my drift.

Anybody catch what Hitchcock said after the game? Usually, he boils it down to the Red Wings being dominant, last night he called out his team for not buying in.
I find it hard to really hate Hitchcock mostly because he really does think in terms of the Wings as being the model to live up to. Yesterday on NHL live he said that when they’re scouting other teams, they don’t use game tape of those teams playing Detroit. He went on to say that they’ll think they have an idea of what’s going on with their own club going into a Detroit game, then later watch tape of it and discover ten more things they need to work on.
As far as “buying in”? I don’t know. I don’t watch the BJs often enough to know anything about their problems, but they really didn’t look like they even wanted to recover from the first two quick goals. There was some checking, but the playoff mentality a lot of teams bring against us wasn’t there last night.

VooX, I wasn’t aware that his idiocy even needed to be dignified with an acknowledgement. The fact that he nitpicked a Veterans’ Day post is right there in black and white, and any right-thinking individual will know what’s wrong with that in the first three words. I have similar family history to you (not Jasenovacs, but you get the idea) and feel the same way, but I don’t see much point in interacting with a mouth-breathing moron completely lacking in social empathy like him. To do so dishonors the veterans and soldiers among us who don’t need our help defending themselves against his harmless moronic behavior.

I have to twist the knife, just once more. And what better way to do it, than straight from the BJ mouth, Aaron Portzline, Columbus Dispatch :
A 9-1 win by the Red Wings set a Blue Jackets franchise record for the most goals allowed in a home game and tied two other blowouts from the 2001-02 season for the worst loss in franchise history. . .
“I guess I shouldn’t say a loss is a loss,” Blue Jackets defenseman Mike Commodore said. “That’s a loss with an asterisk next to it when you lose by more than a touchdown.”
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 11/12/09 at 09:15 AM ET
And I can tell you there have been hundreds of times over the last two years where I’ve had to explain school-girl giggles to people who really don’t have a need to know about A2Y
I had to do that alot last spring. Especially during the playoffs. And double-especially when I was coming home with a twelve pack and answering “Oh…you got beer for the weekend?” with “No…live blog.”
Even more entertaining, and I’m sure anybody who works in an industrial type environment with 45 other perverted-twisted-demented individuals will understand. When I got married I was a weapons flightline expeditor, which means that I basically bossed all the other weapons guys on shift around. And in that job I drove a big metro step-van around all night with all those guys in the back. Some of the stories they would tell back there would make a sailor blush, or maybe just say, “yep…been there”. Occaisionally I would remember some of those at home and chuckle to myself, or as Chief put it, giggle like a school girl. My wife would nag me to tell her what I was laughing about. One time in particular was especially foul and I couldn’t quit laughing and the nagging from the wife was just as intense…so I finally told her.
“I will never…ever…ask you again.” she said when I was done explaining it to her.
Anyways…I think maybe one more cup of coffee and I’ll be ready for the day…

Yep, in WI (for now, anyhow). Just got the news so haven’t check Madison or anywhere (but here - what? this isn’t a job search site?) for that matter. -was the Jimmah! good or Columbus sucked at shooting too?

If there is one thing that has sustained me more than anything else through all of my life’s trials, testings and hardships, it is my faith. My faith has become stronger during each challenge (and my family and I have had our share, believe me) because,
I KNOW ‘my God will never leave me nor forsake me’ (Heb. 13:5).
(Sorry. I know matters concerning politics & religion are kinda taboo here but my faith is who I am. It’s not me, it’s Him.)

Hey, guys.
Didn’t saw the game, have some questions:
-was Leino good or lucky? He was pretty bad in recent games.
-was the Jimmah! good or Columbus sucked at shooting too?
-why the hell did the Jeans Jackets came to the 2nd with Mason?
-at which point it became a laughing game (you know, when you score a goal but doesn’t even celebrate, just LOLs)?And stonehands, good luck. Count on me for a letter of ‘recommendation’ (“he spells his name” how?)

-Leino was good. The BJs weren’t hitting a lot, so that helped him, but he definitely had an extra step and that flash of creativity he was showing early.
-Jimmah left one really bad rebound in the crease where TPH cleared it out. Other than that, I thought his positioning and rebound control were excellent last night
-I think Hitchcock wanted to embarrass Steve Mason out of his sophomore slump.
- Leino’s goal became the laughing point. Probably because it was half a second after the Bertuzzi goal that we weren’t really sure they were going to count at first. It was kinda like a “count THAT, bitches!” moment.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
