Don’t Know Which Way To Turn, Senorita?  Well, The Sun’s Still Shinin’ On The Live Blog

I’ve told you guys again and again.  Every game from this one forward is a playoff game. Every single one.

The postseason started earlier this month. We’re in a fifty game playoff situation.

So that got me thinking. If it was May, and we had a mid-afternoon 2nd rounder starting in about 90 minutes? What would I be doing?

This.

image

We’re missing 8 regulars (if Helm plays) and sitting 8th in the Western Conference.  Forgive me if sanity isn’t at the top of my list of priorities.  It’s the playoffs bitches.  The playoffs.

Snow in DC?  I don’t see any. It’s a Live Blog.

I will probably miss the LB, but I’ll try to give a peek or two at my grlfriend’s house.

And with the afternoon game, nothing to do at night, I’ll pathetically drive around the city looking for Xmas decoration (which hopefully will include Vin Diesel as Santa).

Suuure she did.

I’m pretty sure I have Delta SkyMiles that I’m never going to use.  Can I donate those?

Posted by monkey from Jesus and the Dinosaurs on 12/18/09 at 04:38 PM ET

From an earlier thread that I didn’t get a chance to respond to - yes you can donate them, for a fee, which is 30 bucks, but it wouldn’t do any good unless you have enough to cover the mileage cost of the whole ticket, which in this case is 107,500 miles.  You can’t use partial miles and partial payment for a ticket, you either just pay for it outright or use miles outright.  To be honest, if anyone else has SkyMiles they would want to donate, and we could get enough donations of miles to equal that total of 107,500, it would end up being way cheaper overall to just donate those to one account and pay the 30 dollar donation fee each time and then just buy his ticket with miles.  Just a thought.

If there is one guy that needs to step it up for the Wings, and I mean right now, is Ville Leino.  He has under-achieved all year.  When injured players come back, unless he changes his game, he is on the short list for players to sit.

This is the information I found earlier:

From Delta’s website:

For total fares equal to or greater than $1,000:

  * Redeem 10,000 miles for $100 off the total fare or
  * Increase the redemption in increments of 10,000 miles ($100 off) to cover all or part of the total fare (20,000 miles for $200 off, 30,000 miles for $300 off, etc.).

Therefore one SkyMile is worth 1 cent.

The cost to transfer miles is 1 cent per mile plus $30.  Even with the 50% mile bonus it still costs .83 cents per mile to transfer, barely worth it.

Delta would have to waive the transfer fee in order to make it worthwhile.

So that would be beer number six or seven in that photo, then? Maybe the Abdelkader or Howe? Trying to guess the level of inebriation in that photo is difficult—apparently you were drunkblind, but still possessed the coordination required to cross your legs and wave at the same time without toppling over. I’m kind of stumped here.

Especially considering the clusterfaux of forwards this team will have if it ever gets healthy. If he isn’t scoring, there is no space for him. I don’t think Abdelkader is going anywhere. Neither is Eaves. Leino has to step it up massively to even get contention for a roster spot if everybody comes back healthy.

“We can’t fill up our own arena but we’ll sure as hell fill up yours.”

Yahoo has a link up to a Forbes article that ranks the best fans in hockey- we came in tied for fifth (with the Wild and the Hawks, how ironic).  They didn’t take road attendance into account.  Morons.

Oh, ice storms are the worst.

Give me snow any day. At least you can still drive easily once it’s cleared out.  When the roads are covered with pebbled ice, you just slide through intersections and into snowdrifts and bounce off curbs ruining the alignment.  Far, far worse than snow.

Leino is just not working.

I disagree.  Leino was working very well in the last game before the injury to Z.  Then, he inexplicably got moved to the fourth line with Maltby and Newbury where he performed well with what little ice time he got.  He’s not doing as well as Abdelkader, Eaves, or even Miller, but he’s working.  He needs to spend the entire offseason in the weight room with Datsuk after the season ends.  He’ll be a force when he gets his core strength up.

Leino will probably still get quite a bit of ice time because he still has another year on his contract after this one, I think.  He reminds me of Datsyuk when he was a new guy in some ways.  Before he built up his strength, I remember Pavel could get knocked off the puck with a feather.  It will be interesting to see if Leino does the same next season.
