Duhatschek: Hart For Nick If (When) Wings Right Ship

Via the Globe and Mail,

Malkin’s main challenger could be the Red Wings’ Nicklas Lidstrom though, mostly because of how Detroit has faltered in recent weeks with Lidstrom out of the line-up. If the Red Wings do finish as the best team in the NHL and they right the ship when Lidstrom finally returns, voters will be hard-pressed to ignore his contributions – and the vast difference between Detroit’s record with and without him in the line-up.

Hard to argue with that, but it should be pointed out that Lidstrom wasn’t his usual self even before the injury.  James Mirtle has a chart up today showing the huge churn on the Wing blue line this season.

As he points out the different combinations Uncle Mike has been forced to use, Mirtle also mentions the fact that over the seven games prior to the injury, Lidstrom was a -7.

Something else to consider: I’m not watching the awards show unless the Wings win the Cup.  Too painful.  So, Nick, if you’re gonna get that Hart, finish the job so I can enjoy it too.

With the number of players that are so close in the scoring race, I don’t know how they could choose any of them. Lidstrom is far and away the best player in NHL and has been for awhile. It is because he isn’t flashy and doesn’t draw much attention to himself. My three choices would be Iginla, Lidstrom, and Luongo, mostly because of their consistency. Also many of the top 10 in scoring have had HUGE nights in which they racked up points, Vinny had a few 5 point nights I think, Iginla had a 6 point night, Alfredsson had a 7 point night, and Spezza i tihnk had a 6 point night too. Most of them that have had huge nights like that play in the east and the big night for Iginla (the one I am talking about anyway) was against Tampa Bay. Just something to think about.

nick has obviously been hiding a nagging injury of somesort…and the hit may have made it much worse, i wouldnt be surprised if hes done for the year..also with rafalski, hes taking his sweet ass time getting back, it may be more serious than there letting on. if thats the case, its unlikely the wings make it outta the first round

If the Wings right the ship and win the president’s trophy, not only should Nick win the Hart, but Babcock should win the Adams.

Speaking of which, why should the president’s trophy not be renamed the Scotty Bowman trophy?
