Easy George

I’m not sure how fond I am of the deep diggers just jumping into the summer fray, offering analysis, after months of inactivity.  I question the motivation a bit.  So, when the Freep’s George Sipple comes out of nowhere and decides to blog a bit about Dustin Penner of all people…I begin to feel clammy and a little scared.

Sure, the Wings could use a 29-goal scorer like Penner (6-foot-4, 243 pounds). But it’s a big commitment to make for a guy that doesn’t always seem to play each shift as if it were his last.

Good point.  The Wings are a team who have stood their ground in that regard.  I can’t recall a single transaction that included shelling out big bucks for a player who doesn’t bring it every shift.

Oh…Robert Lang.  Nevermind.

This post reminds me of a dream I had last night.  Fedorov was a Wing again…......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

You’d think that the dream would have been more exciting than that, but it wasn’t.  All felt right with the world.  (for those questioning my sanity or fanatisism, later on in the dream, manly stuff happened, like cars blowing up and stuff)

That’s Robert Lang for Mike Green, Tomas Fleischmann, and about $9 million in wasted dollars…

Honestly, Bill, I don’t know about you, but my first “Wings don’t quite have it” attack came when the clock struck three on deadline day and Robert Lang was still a Wing.

The two or three weeks surrounding the first of August are usually the quietest of the summer—the free agent market slows down, arbitration awards are the only news, and as players haven’t started returning from their summer homes to do their informal skate-arounds, people like us start reading Russian newspapers and questioning other teams’ moves…

Thankfully, Brian Burke, Human Cartoon, is there to save us from the Dog Days Summer Slump.
