Unbelievable game. And hats off to Cristobal Huet. Who could have ever expected him to play to that level in this game? Not me. And none of you did either, not even the Hawk fans.
Chris Osgood played the best playoff game of his life. It’s as simple as that. It was a Hall of Fame performance from a HOF goalie.
And this guy can just go ahead and suck it.

BRING IT ON!!! It’s personal this time.
Oh.

Yeah but he plays on a good team. So his success doesn’t count.

I love the dude that just hangs out doing Mic checks until pressers.
Posted by MarkK from Maryland on 05/27/09 at 09:37 PM ET
does anyone else think that the league is trying to handicap this series by rushing the start to saturday after originally announcing it would be june 5th. not only does that insure dats and lids can’t get TOO healthy before saturday, but then they have to play back to back, saturday and sunday.
i’m sure the league will use tv audience as an excuse, but it reeks to me of the league trying to further balance the scales…

Chief...only problem I have with the new thread…
Chris Osgood played the best playoff game of his life...so far.
There...I fixed it for you.

Stars:
1: Chris Osgood, 2: Cristobal Huet, 3: Darren Helm
Per TSN

I will always hold his 2-nil drubbing of the Stars back in ‘98 as my most memorable Osgood performance.
But this is a close second because he didn’t have Draper, The Perfect Human, and Datsyuk in front of him as well as some guy I heard is 6’5”....[snap]...[snap]...what’s his name again, Nathan?

Yeah but he plays on a good team. So his success doesn’t count.
By that logic, the whole teams combined successes don’t count. Everyone’s success is due to someone else, but then nobody is accountable for anything?

Do you have link to post game presser? don’t see it on gamecenter.

All the Pens fans that saw me today on campus were saying “Bring it on” too. I just laughed and said, “alright.”

We weren’t done with the other thread yet - but we can adjust.
Anyone who asked about who TCD was - here: http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/l/lidstni01.html
And the league moved up the games because the thought of a nine-day break made them look so unbelievably stupid that the outcry forced them to do something. One-car parade => somehow managing a pile-up. Complete idiots.

NHL.com main page, 1st tab thingy; I assume redwingstv as well.

All of a sudden the league jumps the schedule an entire week when the Wings are at their most injured? What BS! Of course, there’s no conspiracy at the NHL, just the execution of a plan.

NHL portal has it. The white card with writing on it is to white balance cameras.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Thid and Geno have already seen the high point of their playoffs for this season.
Can you imagine how great the Wings would have looked facing the defense of Washington and Carolina?
Posted by dougie on 05/27/09 at 09:43 PM ET
There was one among us whose faith in Osgood never wavered, never faltered.
Take a bow, Kate.
What a game.

yeah… i don’t buy that the league changed the schedule to save face. does it absolutely have to start on a fri or sat? could game one not just be sunday to at least avoid a back to back?
press conference is on nhl.com

again, this has been the plan for at least a few days assuming both series ended by tonight.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/27/09 at 09:47 PM ET
Hats off to both goalies tonight, I didn’t think Huet had it in him, and Ozzie just stole his 2nd game this series.
As for the Pens, lets see how they do against a team that actually has a defense, kinda like last year when they breezed through the Eastern Conference, and then couldn’t score a goal in Games 1 and 2. Western Conference hockey is a completely different game.

Wonder if Crosby will have his recurring Zata nightmare tonight.
Posted by Bella on 05/27/09 at 09:50 PM ET
so 8pm Saturday for game 1. the least they could have done was make it an afternoon game to give as much time as possible for Sunday’s game. ugh.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/27/09 at 09:50 PM ET
The back-to-backs are apparently due to NBC’s desire for the games not to interfere with Conan’s debute. They wanted weekend games and apparently they had to be back-to-back. My question is, why couldn’t the schedule be Sat. on NBC, Mon. and Wed. on Versus, and Fri. on NBC for the first four games. Both channels get two games and NBC gets the ones on the weekend.
Posted by Aphaea from Pennsylvania on 05/27/09 at 09:50 PM ET
Oh, and Baroque, meant to say this earlier, but since Helm terminated the Hawks and the liveblog’s moved here…
And don’t forget Jackson. Nice to have a lot of young pitchers.
Sure. I just wish we hadn’t traded away Jurrjens for Willis, who’s only now starting to pay dividends-- especially with some of the solid innings he’s putting in. And I wouldn’t mind having De La Cruz back too.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 05/27/09 at 09:51 PM ET
Love whatcing that Loser Bill Berg eating serious crowe on NHL network. He was predicting “young” hawks easily over the WIngs before the series.

NBC has the rights to the entire Finals, that’s why.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
