Well, it good to see that they aren’t quitting, even if they get down huge. If they’re gonna revert to 08/09 Wings form though, they can only spot teams a 2-0 lead, not 4-0 and 5-1.

Wally going down *#$%@& blows. That’s a pretty big loss, because we have no one to plug into that spot, even as just a barely decent fix.

I’d have to guess the Circus is going to be broken up, so maybe we’ll see:

eVille-Dangle-Homer
Rejuvinabomberkamon-Hank-Buckets
Draper-Taz-Eaves
Maltby-Gator-May

We need to make a move. Unless Leino becomes an overnight sensation, that is a serious hole in our top six. But the problem is, who is out there that’s a top six calibre player, but also affordable?

what a present to get, seeing how I’m going to the Calgary game on Saturday.

helmer looked like himself tonight… night off treated him well. dare i say he could be given a shot at the second line center if babs wants to keep dats and z together?

too soon, i know. but when the kid is on, he just creates so damn much. if he had some finishers on his line, who knows?

and on a positive note, could eaves be a finisher after all? i thought he was having an incredible night BEFORE he scored that goal. if you read the post i linked to, you know my views on eaves. he definitely has an upside that i think was the most intriguing x-factor leading into this season. he has “red wing rejuvenation” written all over him. he had a 20 goal rookie season… and he’s only 25. i guess filps wrist means he finally stays in the lineup, which i’ve been calling for the whole season so far. give him a chance. i wouldn’t be surprised if he has a decent year, and we give him 2 or 3 more years right after the season. at the least, he seems to be a great 3rd or 4th liner. could he become a second liner like cleary? we’ll see… perhaps this new injury is the very catalyst for his big comeback.

on a not-so-positive note… leino hitting the post on that open net… um, isn’t that supposed to be the one situation he is good for, with that “nose for the goal” of his. an open net? i mean i can see lebda or draper ringing that off the post, but those were the plays hudler always buried (he’d roof that shit) and the plays leino needs to bury. or else he’s going to lose confidence and dwindle down on the 4th line eventually. hope he starts getting some bounces.

i think anytime they need to jolt a players confidence and/or production they should simply put the with dats for some shifts. i can barely ice skate and i would score like 10 goals against NHL goalies if i played with datsyuk. you just go by the net with your stick on the ice and close your eyes… even lebda scored the other night doing that.

(re: lebda - i clearly ripped on him twice in this post for a reason… and I don’t say this lightly, but I actually miss Chelios.)

Jimmy just needs to learn a little patience, learn when he should be busting a gut to get over there and when to wait so he isn’t out of position when they decide not to shoot when they thought he was going to.

I only actually saw two of the goals, one for sure he had no chance on and forget that farce in the net.  He saved it what three times despite being flat on his stomach (even though that was more luck than skill since he sure as hell couldn’t see it).

You could make a case for goalie interference on that too since one of the Oilers was blocking any leg movement.  But the whole thing was a farce anyway, couldn’t see where the hell the puck was on the replay, Howard sure as hell couldn’t see the puck, so I don’t see how the hell the refs could see it…

He got his shit together in the end, he can’t help the shoot-out ya need to score.  Just remember the wall of Bhulin let in five too.  That last shot on the shoot-out Howard had no chance and Zetterberg pretty much shot right into Khabibulin, that was an easy save for him.

Is the kid the best?  Hell no, but he isn’t going to get any better without some experience and having people acting like he’s a piece of crap for every puck that crosses the line isn’t going to help anything.

The bottom line, its too early to say whether or not he’s shit.

I don’t think we have to make a move to fill a roster spot for 4-6 weeks and I don’t think the season is over.  This sucks big dick, but it just means that Maltby, May, and Eaves don’t have to play the rotating sitting game.

Datsyuk played 23 minutes last night, Zetterberg 19.  I don’t want them doing it all season long and I know the blah blah blah they’re tired from all the hockey they’ve played over the last two seasons crap, but those two need increased ice time now.  I know that increases the chance of them getting injured, but you can’t play hockey worrying about when the next injury will come.  They’re the leaders on the team for a reason and I doubt either of them would complain about playing those extra minutes.

Christ.  What a clusterf*ck of a roster.  Injuries and suckage.  This just may be a rebuilding/teaching year for us.  Let Howard let in soft goals so he knows what not to do next year.  Let Big Rig have guys blow by him and be a minus, so he knows what not to do next year.  Let Wally sit with a broken wrist, so he knows to um…drink more milk next year.  Jesus, this sucks.

And hey, I’m trustworthy—I paid my end of an internet bet, and you can ask Chief.  I may get a few run off, keep one for myself and send a couple gratis to Chief and WFIBL for his awesome design.  Then, if you like them, you can place yer orders.

One more warning that I forgot to put in—the friend in question is a big Stars fan.  But he’s one of the main sponsors of a British Elite League team, so he’s more absorbed with them, thanks Cthulhu.

Using injuries as an excuse for playing bad hockey is going to do nothing but put us even further behind the 8-ball in 2-3 years when we are no longer competing for a divsion title and are happy with being a 6-8 seed.

This system is broken.  Through the first 12 games of this season the coachnig staff has proven that it did nothing over the off season to address our issues from last year.  Things have only gotten worse.

Our roster right now is still deeper and better than it was in 2007 when we lost to Anaheim.  Yet people are so lazy to throw in the towel and use injuries as an excuse.

We’ll all reap what we sow if we don’t call things for how they are, and right now, this Red Wing team doesn’t play the kind of hockey that it did for the 15 years prior to and including our last cup winning team.

If we aren’t going to have a good system and we are up for surrending goals 1 out of every 4 chances against our opponent, we might as well save their legs the way some of the other teams around the NHL have started doing.

This only gets further justified with the notion that we are going to be depending heavily on those guys tremendously to carry us through the regular season.

The Jimmah! looked great after the 4th goal (vomit), but I wonder: he wasn’t because Babs trusted him or because he didn’t trust Ozzie?

And damn, October… Wally’s down? There’s still 2 days in this shitty month, plenty of time for 13 guys to get injured in Calgary and the rest to get the swine flu.

I agree with taking Datsyuk and Zetterberg off the PK, but not Lidstrom.  I still want them backchecking and playing defense in their 5-on-5 shifts, but let May, Helm, Maltby, and Eaves get those minutes on the PK.  So we’ll hardly score shit for shorhanded goals, can those guys be worse than what we’ve got going on now?  Keep Lidstrom on the PK because he erases the guy whose there to put in the rebound better than anybody I’ve seen and he does it without having to cross check them.  Besides, Stuart is the only other D-Man we have on the roster who comes close to being a shut-down PK guy.

I know, I know.  Agreeing with this sentiment is a bit damaging to a 19er.  There’s a certain part of swallowing your pride involved.  I readily admit that when comparing Datsyuk and Zetterberg to other high-end talent around the league that I used the fact that they actually kill penalties as a huge part of why they’re more complete hockey players than most of the competition.  The fact is that with less offensive talent on the club than many of us have seen in a long time, we can’t let every job fall to every player.  It’s time for shutting mouths and knowing roles.  I don’t care if Eaves doesn’t score ten goals this year if he can be a big part of the reason we can hold a PK percentage in the respectable 80s.  We want May to contribute?  Shit yes he has so far and a lot of people are loving him.  Still, who would you rather have out there to block a Sheldon Souray bomb, him or Datsyuk?

Our secondary and tertiary scoring are gone to injuries. Our primary scorers have forgotten how to score, or even deke. Colanders have a better GAA than our goalies. Our veteran leadership is MIA. Our coaching staff looks like it couldn’t handle a pee wee team. And Homer leads the team in goals.

Is it morning, yet? This has to be a nightmare. I’m going to wake up any second, right?

Wise thoughts on the PP situation, Fredo, JJ.

Goaltending and defense has largely been this team’s downfall. I don’t care if we have to go the way of the Devils or Wild, but we need to get that GAA way down.

I recall our Uncle saying that he hoped Eaves could be a good penalty-killer for this team. I say, now is his time.

The main problem is we lose two good faceoff men taking Z and Pav off the PK. Can Cleary play center? What about Williams? Is it crazy to put him on the kill?

Draper - Eaves
Lidas - Jonny

Cleary - Maltby/Williams?
Kronwall - Stu
