Updated 1939: Gramps is looking for a graphic genius. An artist who can complement his stable of A2Y expatriots.
Updated 1922: Game can be seen on the Yahoo feed.
Oh...yes. That’s it. Finally, after several hours of reading posts about oak syrup, I allowed myself a break to peruse some brilliance.
NY Times/Slapshots
Detroiters have been calling for more respect, even though their team has not capitalized on its regular-season efforts by winning the Cup in the last four seasons. That’s like me, as a college freshman, asking my math professor for respect and extra credit as a consistently great quiz-taker and a superior contributor to classroom discussions after having failed the final. No props for you.
Ummm...yeah. Wing fans are consistently playing the “disrespect” card. Live blog starts here. Usual backdoor link at NHL.TV, the one we are forced to use when games are aired on NHL Network, doesn’t appear to be working yet. If anyone has another means to watch, please let me know.

Anybody having problems with the Yahoo feed? Can’t seem to get it working…
Posted by mudshark from Denver, CO on 12/19/07 at 07:40 PM ET
Freaking Dish—I get no NHL network—although I pay for the CenterIce deal. Bastards. Anybody getting the Yahoo feed to work??
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:41 PM ET
So making syrup from non-standard trees isn’t brilliant?
Tough crowd.
(Actually, it would probably work. All sap has sugar, but sugar maples have a higher concentration than most trees.)

19:01 PP goal for Zetterberg. LaBarbera saw it all the way, but couldn’t stop it
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 07:43 PM ET
Screw it—I’ll go with the radio feed from NHL.com
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:44 PM ET
Yeah, I think the FSN guys were right, LaBarbera was playing the pass.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 07:44 PM ET
Damn missed the call too --- frack
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:45 PM ET
Same here Okie. Yahoo feed’s not working either. Thanks Gary.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/19/07 at 07:45 PM ET
I’m told by a friend (who commented over at OtW) that the NHL updated the online Center Ice site, which could mean they found the backdoor.

Good to hear Ken Kal anyway. Giving Gary a lump of dirty coal this Xmas—Bastard

Sammy fired wide—Imagine that
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:49 PM ET
Kings are in trouble if they keep taking penalties.... The Wings are swarming already.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 07:49 PM ET
Of course, if the Wings don’t really press it home early, the Kings will be around later to stage a comeback…
Doesn’t look like that’ll be much of a problem, with Hudler putting them up 2-0 there.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 07:52 PM ET
I’m sorta surpised Matt—Lately seems the Wings can’t seem to put anybody away ---
It seems someone forgot to pass that Memo to WHOOODLER!!!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:52 PM ET
Hooodler! This could get real ugly, real quick, for LA.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/19/07 at 07:52 PM ET
This one may be ugly. When Hudler scored his 8th last year it was accompanied by, maybe, three assists. This year, he’s got fifteen assists along with his eight Oompas.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/19/07 at 07:53 PM ET
Ugly for the Kings maybe. I’ll be thrilled to see the Wings rip the jugular right out of the Kings. It might actually give them the idea that they could do that with regularity!!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:56 PM ET
Since I cant see the freaking game (frickin Gary)-- sure SOUNDS like Labarbra is a little wobly tonite. Anybody SEEING that?
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 07:58 PM ET
I’d enjoy seeing what Kopitar could do with some playmakers on his line…
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/19/07 at 07:58 PM ET
Yeah, he looks a little wobbly, but it’s only his second game back from an injury. I’d say his vision is going in and out, as it’s looked a couple times like he never saw the shot.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 07:59 PM ET
I’m enjoying watching Mr. Hip Check Rob Blake play for a lousy team!
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 08:06 PM ET
Rob Blake is garbage Dougie. I can’t put my finger on the reason I dislike him so much. I’m sure it’ll come to me. It’s right there...just out of reach. So frustrating.
Oh, he was a Dive. That explains it.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/19/07 at 08:10 PM ET
Mule in the box...a buck says Draper picks up a SH.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/19/07 at 08:12 PM ET
Nice setup by the Kings there. Now they’re back in it, because the Wings backed off. Ugh.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 08:13 PM ET
Or...not.
Iwo’s prognostication skills are rubbing off on me…
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/19/07 at 08:13 PM ET
It sounds like Hasek is playing well though. I called 5-1 earlier today—and I’m sticking with it. Dustin Who???
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 12/19/07 at 08:14 PM ET
Yay, tickers back.
Posted by srt on 12/19/07 at 08:34 PM ET
Yeah, Dom didn’t look so hot on that one.... UGH!
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 08:34 PM ET
Wow, that was weak, Dom
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 08:37 PM ET
6 Tivo replays have me thinking LaBarbie own goaled himself with his glove hand. Wierd play
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 08:43 PM ET
Is that the second penalty Filppula has drawn?
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/19/07 at 08:51 PM ET
That had an air of inevitability about it. Quite the flurry.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 08:53 PM ET
Baroque,
No, that was just the first. At least according to the NHL’s play-by-play.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 08:54 PM ET
Thanks, Matt. I’ve been in and out and thought I saw him draw a penalty earlier.
Regardless, he’s playing pretty well so far.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/19/07 at 08:59 PM ET
Yes, he is. He generally does. I just wish he’d get on the scoreboard more often!
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 09:02 PM ET
Radio feed’s incosistent on this end. I leave you all to continue this live blog without me.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/19/07 at 09:04 PM ET
What the hell is occurring on top of Marc Crawfords head? If he would let the sides and back grow a bit, he’d be right up there with Brian Engblom.
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 09:04 PM ET
Good news: according to this schedule, it looks like this will be the last Wings game on the “Network.”
Anyone know if NHL Network can opt in on more games?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 09:05 PM ET
He’s just a pup. It’ll happen.
I wonder why Mike Camalleri has been slumping lately. I don’t remember hearing about an injury, and he started off so well.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/19/07 at 09:06 PM ET
It can be a new game.
“What dead animal does this man’s hair most resemble?”
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/19/07 at 09:08 PM ET
“Marc Crawford .... good looking hair?”
I trust that was tongue-in-cheek, Mick.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 09:08 PM ET
See ya, Iwo. Hopefully this is the last time this happens.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 09:10 PM ET
I think he might be putting oak syrup in his hair.
Posted by dougie on 12/19/07 at 09:10 PM ET
Wow, Cammalleri has only four goals in his last 23 games. I knew he’d fallen off, but I didn’t know it was that bad. He missed one game with a groin injury, but that’s it.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/19/07 at 09:15 PM ET
The oak syrup attracts squirrels.
They probably gnawed on his hair.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/19/07 at 09:19 PM ET
A struggling team like the Kings, it has to be tough playing against a team so unpredictable.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats
"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
