Oh…yes.  That’s it. Finally, after several hours of reading posts about oak syrup, I allowed myself a break to peruse some brilliance.

NY Times/Slapshots

Detroiters have been calling for more respect, even though their team has not capitalized on its regular-season efforts by winning the Cup in the last four seasons. That’s like me, as a college freshman, asking my math professor for respect and extra credit as a consistently great quiz-taker and a superior contributor to classroom discussions after having failed the final. No props for you.

Ummm…yeah.  Wing fans are consistently playing the “disrespect” card.  Live blog starts here.  Usual backdoor link at NHL.TV, the one we are forced to use when games are aired on NHL Network, doesn’t appear to be working yet.  If anyone has another means to watch, please let me know.

Matt, I sure hope this is the last. I’m getting sick of missing Wings games. Good to see (hear) the Wings beating up on the Kings, though. Or are they mailing it in again?

They look pretty solid. The Kings made things interesting for 5-10 minutes split over the end of the first and the start of the second, but the Wings have pulled away now. Not as dominant as some of their games, but better than some of their recent ones, I think.

It’s 5-2, now. Franzen just got an easy one. LaBarbara is pretty awful tonight.

@ Pete -

From what I’ve seen, they have had a few lapses, but mostly a good effort.

But I’ve been in and out for most of the night, so someone else no doubt has a more informed opinion.  A wise man wouldn’t take my word for it.

Mule from Lilja and Kronner… This is what I get for ragging on the secondary scoring.

Glad to see it though.

This is my first time listening to a game in a while… does Paul Woods always pronounce it “Kron-well”?

The Kings just look like a counterfeit team without those purple and gold sweaters.

Ha! There ya go, Fil!

Another bad bounce for the Kings. Still, you have to wonder why Crawford hasn’t made a goaltending switch. This game is shredding LaBarbera’s confidence.

I hate the NHL Network.  I’m back on my rant again.  I pay for Center Ice am all psyched to get home from work and watch the game and I can’t see it.  Can’t use the computer because the daughter needs it for homework.  Whom should I complain to?  Comcast doesn’t care, they already have my money for the Center Ice package.  The NHL?  Yeah, right.  Thanks, Gary.

Agreed. That was poor coaching.

Also, for those of you who missed the local feed, Jack Johnson was interviewed during the 2nd break and talked as if they had already lost the game. He seems like a relaxed guy but there was too much of the glazed over, “they’re a great team” thing about him.

Nuts.  Missed most of the game after the wife reminded me that I promised to drive the kids around the “Festival of Lights”.  Stupid Thomas Edison.

On the plus side, it looks like Christmas came a little early for me afterall…TLC’s airing “When Surgical Tools Get Left Behind 2”.  How can you not watch that?

Very interesting anecdote from Ken Daniels:

During the Red Wings’ recent 2-1 win in Bubbaville, Mickey Redmond said something like this:
“Night after night, the Red Wings are the hardest working team in the NHL, from their best players to their grinders.  They work like dogs night in, night out.”

The next day, the coach of the Ottawa Senators posted that quote in their locker room.  Then the Sens went out and beat Carolina 6-0.

AM 1270 after the game had a really cool dj that took calls and had pretty decent convo’s with the callers.  Nothing like the usual “thanks for calling, next caller,” it was more like, “what’s your opinion and why” and then a five minute convo would take place between the dj and the caller. He treated the callers like their opinions mattered.  ‘twas nice to hear.
