Perfect for a summer, hockeyless day.
Guess what I found?
John Cannon is apparently one of Nashville’s finest aspiring artists. Luckily, he’s also a Predator fan. Even more luckily, he’s got a website. And even luckilier than that? He’s combined the two hobbies.
Oh..yes he has.

Here’s the description to go along with it.
You have to be a Nashville Predators fan to get the title. If you aren’t, here is the story: Chris Chelios is a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings. He’s No. 24. Whenever he comes on the ice in Nashville, the crowd chants “Chelios is a sissy!”
Nice work John.
Unfortunately, Mr. Cannon’s piece still isn’t selling quite as well as this anonymous work gaining popularity in some of Nashville’s more elite art circles.

That’s just sadness now, man. Buncha adults slipping into second-grade playground taunting.

Betting Mr. Cannon wouldn’t have the stones to murmer anything along those lines face to face with Cheli… thinking about Cheli and Mr Cannon meeting in person…...
All I can see in my head is Tie Domi reaching over the glass of the sin bin and dragging the dumbass who showered him with beer over the glass and feeding him a knuckle sammich.

I think we should officially change our name to the Bubba Prediters. I really do.

Hm. Not sure how I feel about this. Me and the lady are relocating to the Clemson area in about a month…which puts me a little closer to TN and even closer to that team we beat in 02…best bet for a Wings game will still be coming back down to ATL…damn the southeast. How did I end up here?
However…SC WILL HAVE YUENGLING!

As an art snob ne plus ultra, I can honestly say that the second one is a far superior depiction of the subject at hand.
Anybody else excited about the prospect of Brad McCrimmon replacing Todd? Here’s hoping he can make the PP a bit more fearsome than it was last year. Oh wait. We have Hossa. Sweet.
Still. Brad McCrimmon back with the Wings. I genuinely think he’s an upgrade over McClellan. It seems like things just can’t go wrong this summer. If Fil comes back on a long-term deal, well…break out the tarot cards and astrology. And a few fortune cookies.

Brad McCrimmon, eh? from the article at The Detroit News:
“We’re trying to add him to our staff. Mike’s wish list after Todd McLellan left was to get a former NHL defenseman with NHL assistant coaching experience. Brad McCrimmon really fits the bill.”
I wonder if they would have hired Chelios for the job if he had announced his retirement as a player. technically no assistant coaching experience, but at 46 and after years of winning, he has plenty of similar experience.

Second art piece ...
Fine example of the “primitive” style, shows a great deal of energy, uses simple elements very effectively in a graphic and modern design. Skillful use of irony as well, and the text elements add to the modern feel of a design that grows organically out of a literate society where communication is rapid, constant, and crucial to social interactions.
The first piece, however ...
For the sake of the artist, I hope it is a really rough draft. It’s flat and static, with little sense of movement or energy, which is important in showing the dynamic nature of the sport of hockey. Figures seem more like flat shapes with little sense of shadow or dimension, not like actual human beings in motion. There is a distinct lack of tension in the frame, which just makes for a boring painting. Even as a finished piece, the composition in uninspired and there isn’t really any element that catches the eye or draws the viewer into the piece. Maybe that’s just my personal bias, though - I can’t stand a medium that doesn’t give me the ability to really hammer contrasts between light and dark and have lines so sharp you could imagine cutting your finger on them.
The composition could be so much better with a greater sense of depth and movement.

Wow, uh umm, that’s art?
Reminds of the instructor comments after my last golf lesson….“Son, don’t quit your day job just yet.”

I’m no art buff, and I know sometimes titles don’t match what being offered as “art”...
But considering that this is clearly no modern art sculpture, and that the subject is clearly attempting to put a visualization to the title…
Shouldn’t it at least show Chelios being a sissy? Am I missing something here? I could understand if it showed Arnott or someone beating him to a pulp (which wouldn’t happen, but hey, hillbillies got to dream too, right?). It might as well be titled, “Arnott looks to center ice for a call, due to his lack of ability to produce timely goals for the prediters”

That illustration (the GOOD one… yes, the “Prediter” one is the good one) warms my heart and home.

The Stevie Y Lego statue at The Retirement Night at the Joe had more artistic flair that the above shown rendering.
Maybe we need to remind Bubba how Mr Arnott wound up missing the last 2 games of the frist round….. getting a big hug from his bubba-phytes (Bonk no less IIRC). Tee frigging hee, who’s the sissy?

Maybe I’m not seeing it right, but which one is Chelios? The Wing in the back looks more like him, especially with the darker skin tone, but the one in the front is wearing jersey number 24. Well, I assume it’s 24. I mean, it looks more like 2K, but even Prediter fans know that’s not a number. And if it’s not 24, then who the heck is the Wing in the front? Maybe my expectations are too high. At least Dom and Arnott are recognizable.

I actually think it might have been Radulov.
Maybe that’s why he had to leave - to avoid the shame and returen to his home country.

I like the second piece of artwork better. It’s more descriptive of the scene in Nashville.
