Fischler: For Devils, Losing Rafalski Was Addition By Subtraction

At least one New York-based writer is thinking Ken Holland overpaid for Brian Rafalski.
I know one Devils season ticket holder who told me straight out that she wouldn’t be back next season if Rafalski was still wearing a New Jersey uniform. I know another regular at Devils’ games who liked to kid that Brian had a day job as a baker; “He specialized in turnovers.” Personally I was a Rafalski fan but only at a reasonable price. Rachunek is 27 and is getting paid $1.4 million. Rafalski is going to be 34 in September; he’s getting $6 million a year. Who’s nuts? Not Lou.

Wait Iwo, your saying you want LESS shots getting blocked by opposing defensemen?

Man, Nick led our defensemen last year in giveaways, I can’t wait until that bum is off the team.

Does Fischler remember how much Schneider gives the puck away, especially at the blue line with nobody behind him but the goalie?
Anyways, everyone knows that Holland overpaid, but so it goes in the league these days.

Stan Fischer: Woody Paige - East.

Schneider definitely wandered off into never never land on occasion…
I think we can stand the turnovers that Rafalski may dish out, and I think that Fischler needs to occasionally separate his lips from Lou Lamoriello and Gary Bettman’s rear ends, respectively.

Do you smell that? Smells like damage control to me. Lou decides hes the best coach for the team with a week left in the season (amidst a healthy win streak), the devils fall flat on their faces. Their team doesnt draw squat at home, yet they announced they will be doubling the price of season tickets, and they are moving into a new barn, and doing so without their #1 center, and #1 defensemen.
Compared to what some relatively mediocre defensemen are making? we got a great deal on rafalski. It will be like having a second nick on the ice(well not quite but he plays a similar style). I cant wait to see rafalski as a wing. Hes going to fit in perfectly here.
