There was a time, many years ago, when my sarcasm was split evenly between two teams: the ‘dique and Dallas. All my snide remarks of today, pointing out the hygienic, dietary and genealogical challenges of Bubba’s fan base? The fine folk in Dallas used to be the recipients.
Well, the Stars moved on to the Pacific division and we haven’t seen them in posteason play since a little kid named Osgood shut them out in Game 6 of the WCF in ‘98.
Don’t get me wrong. I still dislike Dallas, but it’s just not the same.
However…they come into the Joe tonite considerably hotter than the Wings (I know, I know…tell me who isn’t). The Wings defeated Dallas 4-3 October 27th in their only meeting thus far.
Dallas has won five of their last seven. They scored 4 PP goals Friday against LA, but also gave up 3. Traditional Wing biotch Marty Turco will be in the nets for Dallas tonite, after spending all but three minutes of the Stars’ last three games riding pine.
Turco has a 2.97 goals-against average, an .892 save percentage and a 1-7-5 record in 14 games against the Red Wings. But coach Dave Tippett believes it’s important to see how his goalie responds to the situation.
“I’m more for throwing him into challenges than take him out of challenges,” Tippett said. “Challenges build people.”
Deep.
Wings’ first game on Versus this year. Start time: 1900 EST.

What about it? That “prediction” came amidst a 9-game winning streak. Now we’re at the tail end, hopefully, of a losing streak that has featured 3 OT losses. Are you willing to say you believe there will be an “implosion” by Christmas?

I don’t know what to think honestly. Not to sound like the sky is falling. I’m still gonna hang with the Wings. It’s just tough to see this happening.
I hope you’re right that they are at the tail end of that streak, i thought that after the 3rd loss. Losing 5 in a row sure sounds bad, even though most games were close, we still lost to teams we shouldn’t have.
The lack of offensive production sucks but here we are this far into the season and it still isn’t fixed. It’s great the young guys get to play, but are they gonna carry us into the playoffs? Are they even gonna score?
The loss of Franzen hurts too. And if it’s true Lang is a bit disgruntled well, i guess no big deal since he isn’t a big deal anyway, but i think Franzen is being missed. No doubt Datsyuk’s offense would be great right now.
Hasek is getting so few shots and you can tell he’s lost a step, be it that he’s afraid of breaking the glass groin or he’s just getting slow. Or is it typical he gets better toward the end of the season? But is that gonna be too late if we can’t produce offense?
So yeah, when you look at all that, it doesn’t sound good. Yes we know this is a stop gap year, but it doesn’t have to suck like this. Yes Wings have some very good things going for them such as low shots against and, um….yeah.

It is very dificult as a fan to see our mighty Wings become a “middling” team. Thank the CBA. Going forward it is up to Ken Holland to rebuild the team. That may take years of higher draft picks and waiting. I prefer to think he can do it through free agency, which will destroy good teams as fast as others rebuild. In the end, it is not unlike watching TV Poker….which GM gets dealt the best hand each year and how does he play it?
