After a 5-0-1 home-stand, game 19 finds DET (13-3-2) atop the Western Conference standings, ATL (9-9-3) are 9th in the East. DET leads the league in point percentage at .778% (believe it or not the BJ are second at.684%), and DET also lead the league in G/G at 3.67. The Wings PP, has gone top-shelf lately going 6-of-16 in the past three games; they have scored at least one power-play goal in 15 of 18 games.
Coach Babcock is being coy about his forward rotation: “We’ll look at that again.” “We’ve had a two-man rotation with Miller and Eaves (and) they’ve both played excellent. Maybe it’s time to go a little deeper.” And don’t look for Tyler to get up off the barroom floor anytime soon, especially after Scott Cullen has placed DET #1 in his Power Rankings, and taken note of Sparty: “One regulation loss in the last ten games and, living up to Assistant GM Jim Nill’s prediction at the end of last season, LW Justin Abdelkader is on his way to a breakout season with seven points in the last nine games.”
Tonight marks DET’s first game against an Eastern Conference opponent. Danny Cleary, who will be in the lineup tonight, said of the Thrashers: “We definitely don’t know a lot about them, except for standings and highlights.” I don’t either, other than their goalie is brilliant. The AJC certainly doesn’t give them much ink.
DET are 91-0 all time in game 19 of the schedule. They never, ever, lose game 19. Game On, Bitches(!) - - - and Happy Thanksgiving.

Wings Tuesday practice:
Here are the lines they practiced with, but Babcock said he put these together thinking Cleary might not play and that he might not use these in the game.
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi (Draper working in)
Abdelkader-Modano-Cleary (Hudler working in)
Miller-Helm-EavesLidstrom-Stuart
Ericsson-Rafalski
Kronwall-Salei
Kindl (likely scratch)Howard (starting)
MacDonald

More for the Hudler debate:
” . . . [Filppula] has just three points (two goals, one assist) in the past 11 games.
“Fil’s a good two-way player. I think he’s better offensively than he’s shown, for sure,” Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. “I want him to continue to get to the net, want him to continue to shoot the puck and make plays. I want him to be harder on the puck all over.
“If he does those things, he’ll have more offense. So that’s the challenge for him.”
Filppula acknowledges he’s a little frustrated, saying, “just trying to do the right things and play the best I can. I hope the points start coming as well.”
He had six points in his first seven games (two goals, four assists) and clicked with linemates Johan Franzen and Todd Bertuzzi. After shuffling his lines frequently the past few games, Babcock had Filppula, Franzen and Bertuzzi together again during Tuesday’s practice.

From the AJC:
* The Thrashers play their fourth of a six-game homestand having won two in a row.
* Dustin Byfuglien leads all NHL defensemen with seven goals and is tied for second with 19 points.
* The Thrashers’ power-play unit is fifth in the league at 23.5 percent (20-for-85). However, it is just 2-for-16 over the past six games.

Thrashers rookie Burmistrov’s boyhood hero is Pavel Datsyuk. Here’s a story the Thrashers wrote up about him and this coming matchup from yesterday:

It’s too bad Modin is injured - I like seeing him and Z play against each other. Burmistrov is a real talent and I wish he were in the Detroit system, kinda like I wish they have Victor Hedman. It’s not that Detroit NEEDS either, but they would fit well with the traveling Hall of Fame preview show that is the Detroit Red Wings.

Sounds like a movie I bought on the streets from a vendor for like 2 dollars once….
Happy Thanks Giving,
Starring Jiri Hudler.

Funny how babcock challanges Filppula after messing with his game. I mean give the guy a break, he’s got a Hudler on his back. Look what happened to Modano and Cleary after they shook of this little anchor

Big Buf is scoring but this is not a deep team we are facing. However, like every other wannabe in the NHL, they have something to prove and taking one from Big Red is their motivation.
I’ll be at the game and expect 2/3 of the fans will be adorned in Red and White. Go Wings !

Hudler is the odd man out tonight. Babcock on Fan590 said he is adding him to the rotation of healthy scratches.

Awesome, Jeff. It’s another information-packed, fantastic GDT read. Your remark about the PP going top-shelf lately really stood out. Have a terrific Thanksgiving and thanks again for your continued and thorough efforts.

From that Atlanta article about Burmistrov:
In a game that will feature two of the most explosive offenses in the NHL, two of the league’s three highest scoring defenseman (Dustin Byfuglien and Nicklas Lidstrom) and a team on the rise versus one of the most storied franchise sin hockey history, the most interesting storyline just might be how high Burmistrov can raise his game to impress his favorite NHL player. Can he possibly top this downright Datsyukian goal from Friday night’s game versus Washington?
Explosive offense?
And apparently, Dats used to give an 8 year old Burmistrov sticks after games “routinely.” That’s pretty damn cool. Sounds like the kid has a great personality as well, just like his hero. Even better, his ultimate hero is Igor, which is why he wears #8.
Hudler for Burmistrov?

Atlanta would have made that trade a few years ago. I think we’re out of luck there now.

DET are 91-0 all time in game 19 of the schedule. They never, ever, lose game 19.
Yet another reason Jeff’s GDTs rules the Gore. Astonishing symmetry as well: 19 and 91. Year 1991 is when we started this odyssey of consecutive playoff appearances greatness.
Just don’t take the Thrashers for granted. I remember losing to the Isles 2-nil last year when everyone thought we should’ve taken that team to the woodshed.
