It happened last night by virtue of the Canucks 4-1 win over Bubba, and all indications are that it may happen again and again this season; the Wings are on the outside of the playoff chase looking up at the standings. But, Lil’ Gary may have given DET a small Christmas present by scheduling CHI a game with SJS last night, which CHI lost 3-2 (Huet in net). With the win, SJS now lead the West.
After having won 4 straight, the Wings have now lost 2 in a row. From all I’ve read, DET looked good at DAL; I can’t say, I didn’t see it. Unfortunately, I did watch the tilt Sunday at CHI, and it was pretty clear to me that DET were badly outplayed. They may have been gassed from the game in DAL the day before, and the roster may be filled with Griff’s; all true. But the long and the short of it is this Captain Obvious statement: The Wings must start taking more points from Conference opponents, especially Division opponents; or it could be their shortest season in 18 years.
GDT Lite today - - I’ve gotta meet St Nick, several times. Merry Christmas bitches(!), enjoy this gift.

The HighLander makes his first appearance in the GDT, and brings some cheerful news:
Filppula said that he’s not playing in Wednesday’s game against Chicago, but is scheduled to return to the lineup Dec. 26, if he doesn’t have any setbacks. Mattias Ritola hasn’t played center since his days of youth hockey, so the line combinations for Wednesday are still up in the air.
“I’ve got one more day to figure that out,” said coach Mike Babcock.
Also of note ... Jimmy Howard gets the start in net, Wednesday. . .
Here are the lines they’re working out of ...
Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Draper-Helm-Eaves
Leino-Abdelkader-Miller
May-Filppula-Maltby (Ritola working in)Lidstrom-Rafalski
Lebda-Stuart
Meech-Janik
LiljaHoward
OsgoodThe defensemen are rotating partners.
Mike Kiley, Blachhawks Confidential, Chicago Tribune, had notes from last nights CHI loss to SJS, and suggests that Antti Niemi will get the start in net tonight for CHI.
I’ll try to get more updates later today.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
