GDT - Game # 61: Red Wings host Sharks (7:30)

Clash of the Western Conference Titans tonite at the JLA. The Sharks have set the pace in the Western Conference this season, with the Wings trying to keep up. Almost at the 3/4 pole, and the Sharks are beginning to show signs of their perennial late season meltdowns, going 5-1-4 in their last 10 games (but winners of 4 straight). Detroit has had three days rest since their anemic performance at MIN on Saturday. San Jose is coming off a 1-0 win in their Monday night tilt at Dallas. This game could well be a preview of the WCF. You have to wonder if the level of competition will encourage the Wings to play 60mins tonite. If you’re interested in the statistics, and the latest from the MSM on tonights game, I encourage you to continue reading.
Also, in case you’re interested, you can check the GDT threads between games for post-game, and any additonal newsworthy items.

Helene St. James, Detroit Free Press, has the Wings practice lines, Kopecky and Cheli sitting, Stuie in:
Update from Joe Louis Arena today: With defenseman Brad Stuart back in the lineup, Chris Chelios will be a healthy scratch Thursday, when the Red Wings host the Sharks at the Joe.
Up front, coach Mike Babcock said it’s Tomas Kopecky’s turn to sit out.
That means the lines will be:
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Cleary
Franzen-Filppula-Hossa
Hudler-Helm-Samuelsson
Leino-Draper—MaltbyOn defense:
Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Lilja-MeechTy Conklin is starting in net.
Shark’s practice lines from Tuesday, Dave Pollak’s blog at the San Jose Mercury News:
” . . .Todd McLellan kept the same lines together that finished against the Stars. To refresh your memories, that would be:
Ryane Clowe-Joe Thornton-Devin Setoguchi
Milan Michalek-Joe Pavelski-Jeremy Roenick
Jonathan Cheechoo-Patrick Marleau-Mike Grier
Jody Shelley-Tomas Plihal-Claude Lemieux
We’ll see tomorrow morning if that’s how things stay against the Red Wings, but keep in mind that McLellan is tinkering with some regularity these days (which is one of those things I was going to get to last night).

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
