What do you say? What is there to say? Here is my two cents (but not an original thought as one of you other Bitches mentioned it previously): The Wings have been “out-Red Winged” by their former coach. DET has lost every game 4-3. The difference has been that SJS control the puck just that much more than DET; so DET end up chasing the game and taking more penalties instead of vice versa. Yes, as noted by almost everyone, including many in the hockey MSM, DET was hosed on more than a few calls. But if DET would win more freaking faceoffs (DET were schooled in SJS and managed just 50% faceoff wins at home), they aren’t in that position to begin with; and that Setoguchi goal at 19:56 was just inexcusable, unacceptable - gawd-awful. SJS have played DET’s game better than DET have, I give them credit for that.
Of course, if SJS become only the third team in NHL history to lose a series after leading 3 games to none - - choke would be too mild an adjective to describe that team. The odds are incredibly long (DET are 1-4 in their last five games), but it starts with one damn win.

Eaves out again, Ritola in for J-Won’t (hit the damn net)? Khan(!):
With the Red Wings trailing the series 3-0, Babcock said he hadn’t decided whether to insert a fresh forward into the lineup. One possibility would be putting Mattias Ritola in for Jason Williams.
There was a switch on the top two lines, as Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula traded spots:
Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-BertuzziBut that doesn’t mean he’ll start the game that way.
The other two lines looked like this:
May-Miller-Williams (Mursak working in)
Draper-Abdelkader-RitolaBut that doesn’t mean anything because Helm and Cleary are expected to play.
On defense, Babcock said he hadn’t decided if he’ll use Brett Lebda, as he did the last game, or Andreas Lilja.

All I ask for is some heart, not like the 3rd period of game 3 where we were like kevin bacon being smacked on the ass and saying “thank you sir, can I have another?” If they come out like that and just give up, I will be seriously pissed, we’re the damn red wings, we do not give up and we better fuching not go softly into that dark night

I’ve been working about 60 hours a week since the beginning of March…so honestly, I haven’t caught much hockey, much less playoff hockey this year. As much as I’d love to see round 3 in a few weeks…I’m just not into it this year.
Sacrilege maybe, but…it just seems the Wings share my feelings. Some nights they give a damn, Game 4…Game 7 against the Jets…but it seems since they figured out they’d make the playoffs…that switch has been shut off.
If they lose…well…that’s an extra few weeks off that maybe will make a difference next year. Sad to say it, but that’s how I feel. I just hope for one thing; this isn’t Jimmy Howard’s fault. I’ve seen the highlights, and most of the archived games on the paysite. Sure he hasn’t looked too sharp at times, but hell, this is the kid’s first second season. I’d say he’s done well. Don’t run him out like they did to Legace…if anything…Howard has proven he’s a good netminder, and he will improve next spring.
Nick? Come back. Sure you know what you are capable of, and you know things just don’t come automatically like they used to. You’re still the best D-man in the league.
All this said…LGRW. At least make Todd beat you back on the left coast.

Today, I want to win just to avoid the sweep. (and because Corinthians was eliminated from Libertadores yesterday and I can’t handle two eliminations in a row)
Saturday, I want to win so the Sharks fail in front of their crowd.
Monday, I’ll want to win to avoid meing eliminated at home,
Wednesday, I’ll want to win to close the greatest comeback ever.

i remember 2 years ago when the wings were up 3-0 on the dive. mainly due to injuries, but no one seemed even the slightest bit concerned that colorado would come back. it’s different with the wings this year. even a sharks blog is holding off on the parade. they know this is far from over.
this is going to be epic.

Thanks man.
I feel tranquil about tonight probably because of the numerous sedatives I’ve been mixing, cocktail like. You should try it sometime. Anyway, thanks Jeff.
Since Van and Chi are beating the snot out of each other, I would assume that SJS will come out of the West. If I see Thronton lift the Cup, I may puncture a hole in my sack and watch the blood drip out slowly.
Btw, when did Chicago, specifically Bufyuglin (sp?) become goonish. Everyone was trying to take Luongo’s head off. Even Towes didn’t do anything to avoid him.

Fugly’s always been kind of a goon, but the rest of the squad is doing it because they know it works. Luongo has a reputation as a whiner, so Chicago knows they can get away with a little bit more than usual and take Vancouver off their game that way.
If the Wings can’t complete the epic comeback and the Hawks make it past Vancouver, I’m interested to see how it will work out. Nabokov isn’t a whiner, but he sure is a diver. I don’t think Chicago will keep up the run-the-goalie strategy against San Jose.

Our refs (SJ-DET series) would have loved that game, goalie interferences all over the place…

If they come out flat tonight, offseason changes need to happen.
Either leave it ALL out on the ice, or go home and don’t come to the rink.
The refs will hand this one to the Sharks anyways at whatever cost to the integrity of the game, but the Wings could at least make them pay in blood for it.

Khan(!) - - via MO:
They might make one switch on their top two lines, as Valtteri Filppula practiced with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom on Wednesday. So the lines, at least at the start, might look like this:
Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Miller-Helm-Cleary
Draper-Abdelkader-RitolaCoach Mike Babcock said Patrick Eaves (elbow) is the only player out due to an injury. So defenseman Brian Rafalski (back) is good to go.
Tonight’s referees are Chris Lee and Bill McCreary.

I heard Kenny D and Mick say towards the end of the regular season that the NHL asked him to stay one more year, a shortage of refs or something, and he accepted. So he has one more year. I’ve always thought of him as an avid Red Wing hater.
