Wings fans, feel free to poke fun at the team we cheer for - it’s what you do in sports - but never question the loyalty of our true fan base.
Garcia had long hair and makeup and was wearing an Avalanche jersey, according to authorities.

Great play to Brunette, no lucky they couldn’t finish.

Dater in March:
“]Datsyuk is a playoff bust year after year, and that won’t stop. Zetterberg has a back rapidly turning into one like mine, and guys like Hudler, Filppula (or however his name is spelled) and Kirk “The Diver” Maltby will do nothing in the playoffs.”
I left a comment saying he should watch out for Franzen (and Cleary).

The ref just did an interesting “I’m a little tea cup” move there to avoid the puck…

I may have to mention that tomorrow Matt (Dater’s post).

I would really like to see an exclamation point 6th goal here.

What an awesome display of ice hockey by the Wings today—a full freaking game too
Ass- Kicking of the first magnitude.
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 04/26/08 at 04:37 PM ET
Exactly Jeff. A full game, dominant in all facets. Denver, with or without Flop, can’t hold a candle to the Wings when they play this well.

Franzen’s Cap what is that? It has the Tigers script D and the Red Wings emblem Can anyone buy that? I’m in Virginia so forgive me.

That was a remarkably physical game by Datsyuk. He was outplayed by Zetterberg for the first time these playoffs (and probably one of the only times since New Year’s), but if he’s “banged up”, it’s not showing.
The third defensive pairing is starting to look more and more like it might become a serious problem. Chelios needs to be solid, and Lebda needs to be smarter with the puck.

Milberry..."the answer here is Peter Forsberg.”

Wings
10-22-8—40
Dive
4-6-10—20
not even close for the Dive… we are making them chase us all over the ice and their old legs can’t handle it

I can’t figure out who has given up more - the Avs fans or the players.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/26/08 at 04:51 PM ET
I like Milbury’s line about how he doesn’t understand how the Red Wings look so good. Did February really have that big of an impact on everybody else that one month out of a long season has that large an effect on what the “experts” think of us?
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 04/26/08 at 04:53 PM ET
Geez, what’s with the bloodlust from the douche canoe?
Posted by Jennemy of the Skate from putting the b*tches in the box on 04/26/08 at 04:57 PM ET
I had no doubt that Floppa wouldn’t play today. He is too much of a coward to fight through pain in a hostile environment.
He’ll play in more friendly territory, the AssCan should feel comfy for his Floppiness.
And Budaj will start if 3/4 has even a little sniffle.
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 04/26/08 at 04:59 PM ET
Yeah, don’t know where Milbury was going with that Threeorfour thing… Oh yeah, his fave hang-out, the unemployment line…
Now we need to take at least one of these next two in Denver. Seriously.

Thanks for the link Rumbear. Didn’t find the cap but plenty of cool stuff. Been looking for a script “D” car magnet - have the 16” Wings magnet and the “M” magnet, depending on time of year!
Posted by RWBill from jabbing a six inch sewing needle into my eye. on 04/26/08 at 05:11 PM ET
what have we learned:
the Douche Canoe was wrong on every point:
we HAVE goaltending
&
we HAVE secondary scoring
oh, and Joe at Mile High Hockey is a hypocrite who says he will come and trash talk the A2Y board, but bans me for ONE Theodore compliment (before the 2nd goal). But what is to be expected, he is just Turtling like all Dive do.
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 04/26/08 at 05:22 PM ET
How can you not start Budaj?
If they go back to Theodore and he gives up a quick goal or two, the entire team is going to know they have no chance. Budaj has been excellent - what else does he have to do to earn a start?
And if Theodore is sick, then then there is no way the coach should have listened to him when he said he was fine. Budaj should have started today - with the plan to bring back Theodore in game three once he was fully recovered. After all, it isn’t as though changing goaltenders means an automatic series loss - make the backup do something other than hold down his end of the bench.
And just once, I’d like to hear someone NOT use “consistent” as a synonym for “good.” It is possible to be consistently bad, which is worse than being inconsistently good.
Did February really have that big of an impact on everybody else that one month out of a long season has that large an effect on what the “experts” think of us?
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 04/26 at 05:53 PM
I guess so. Probably that and the struggle last round against Nashville, but the only teams that really had an easy time in the first round were Pittsburgh and the Rangers. San Jose (everyone’s favorite) struggled getting past Calgary, when with their talent that never should have gone to seven games unless Iginla was cloned so there could be two of him on the ice at all times, Montreal was pushed to seven games against a team they clobbered the entire season - Dallas had a realatively easy time against the defending champ Ducks.
The first round is often odd because favorite teams are struggling with pressure, rookie teams are figuring out how to make adjustments because they are playing the same opponent game after game, and guys who finished the season resting, coasting, or injured have to get geared up again. It’s an adjustment period for everyone.
I’m so disgusted by DC and Milbury calling for violence.
I understand that they think Colorado has to “soften up” Detroit, but I wonder if they actually have the personnel to do that. They have the two Codies, but they haven’t struck me this year as a hard-hitting punishing team. If they don’t have the people for playing that way then they would be more likely to just hurt themselves, I would think.
(Only you had questions about the Red Wings’ character, Mr. Milbury. They were all in your head.)
And what was with Sweet Caroline?
(Although it was cute how the crowd kept singing along even after play continued and the PA music stopped.)

Wait, what -
Why would you be banned for a compliment?
Sarcastic or not, that’s harmless and inoffensive.

RWBill said:
That homosexual has never played hockey, get him off the street. It ain’t nothing like poker.
Maybe you should know what you’re talking about before you open your mouth, Bill. Daniel Negreanu is an avid hockey fan and often wears either a Red Wings or Griffins jersey when he plays in a poker tournament. He’s currently separated from his first wife (a gal from West Michigan) so he’s hardly a homosexual (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
I know you’re jazzed by the Wings victory today, but maybe your homophobic attitude more appropriately belongs on a WWF fan site (not that there’s anything wrong with the WWF).

He is highly superstitious about such things. I told him:
3/4 was playing great and making good saves (it was 1-0). I then said he wouldn’t allow another goal… but then again neither would the Wings.
So you see, I was sort of commenting on Osgood too: “counter-karma” to his silly superstitions, showing I was yanking his chain. TURTLE
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 04/26/08 at 05:33 PM ET
Superstitious, eh?
That makes sense - but it’s also silly. I laugh at fan superstitions (as if the team knows you are wearing your lucky shirt, and if they did, they would even care) but I think they’re cute little rituals to try and gain some control over something that we care about but have no control over.
Still, I try to wear my lucky earrings when I have an important job interview or presentation or something - and I have been wearing my new fossil ivory Red Wings pendant, so I’m subject to the same fan tendencies as anyone.
But banning for reverse physcology is a little over the top.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:
