Every once in a while, at Game 2, a small but vocal band of Hawk fans made their presence felt. They were in one of those overhang deals, kind of a private box in the 202 section. They’d pick and choose their spots and yell it in unison.
“Detroit sucks.”
Idiots in the crowd got angry. They swore and pointed. A few drank some more and yelled more bad things at those people. The Hawk fans laughed and taunted the idiots.
But when Dan Cleary scored to give the Wings a 2-1 lead, something strange happened. Two entire sections, hundreds of people turned at once, peered up at the Hawk fan box and waved. All at once waving. It was awesome.
And I’ll tell you this, no matter how much you hate the Hawk fans…those guys handled it well. They laughed along with us and took it. And when Sammy pooped in a box to end it, those guys shook a few hands before they left. Pretty cool.
Tonite? It won’t even be close. Tonite? If you’re a Wing fan in Chicago you’re not safe and that’s just the way it is.
Because everyone knows what this game means. Wings win and this bitch is done. Over. Hawks? Not so much.
Half a dozen to a dozen.
It’s a Live Blog bitches.

The news about Datsyuk has already rained on my three day weekend parade.
A Wings win, and all will be right with the world.
6 to 12, Bitches. And It continues tonight.
I was already stressing a little about this game, mojo isnt feeling too great right now.

I’ve become a smelly, disgusting, and leaky sonuvabitch due to the news of Datsyuk being out for tonight’s game.
Jameson’s and 250 G, please take it all away.
Go Wings!

A little early for the live blog, eh Chief? Afraid you won’t be able to type straight in another half hour?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/22/09 at 05:43 PM ET
LOL
Keenan got fired from the Flames. getting fired seems to be the only thing that guy is good at.
8 different teams said “don’t let the door hit you, Mike” - not exactly a good resume. at least he got lucky and had a good team in front of him in New York. couldn’t get over the hump in Philly though…
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/22/09 at 05:45 PM ET
Wings fans are everywhere. Chicago is no exception. I know the fans can be utterly classless, but does anyone know if they have their own special jail built right into the stadium?
You know like the one at the Link in Philly? Now these are some rabid, violent fans here.Bitches.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Hawks fans being jack asses is not something new. I can remember listening 30 years ago to games on WJR and would here Bruce Martyn describe that a scrum had broken out in the crowd between fans of the Wings and hawks at the old stadium in Chicago. They must have been pretty violent because Bruce would sound genuinely concered that someone might get injured.
I would love nothing more than a Wings blow out tonight and in the closing moments have the few brave Wings supporters in attendance break out into a nice loud chours of :
1961!!!...1961!!!....1961!!!...1961!!!

I’m dealing with my dread by listening to Dropkick Murphys on youtube. “Kiss Me, I’m Shitfaced” is probably my favorite song at the moment.

Uncle Mike, in this NHL.com story:
“For Filppula, it’s prime time,” Babcock said. “I think it’s a great opportunity in a good building against a good team. It should be a lot of fun for him. Don’t get me wrong ... we’d love to have Pav. But I think each and every year in the playoffs, you have to overcome some things. We have to overcome this, obviously.”
That pretty much says it all, as far as I’m concerned. No Dangle.

Well…that pretty much says it all. I’ll be logged into A2Y…but I’ll be sweating bullets in front of the TV.

Damnittohell, I’m already pacing the floor.

WXYT says Pavel is out, Leino in with Malts.

Here’s something that just might make you a little less stressed. What team in the league could lose a center like Pavel and still be able to dress four centers with faceoff percentages over 50%. Now, come on, that’s got to give you some solace, right?

I want to say something off topic, just for a second so please indulge me. Am I the only one who is sick and tired of hockey analyst (McGwire,Olczyk,Melrose.Ect…) who are always saying how Lidstrom, Datsyuk.Zetterberg and the rest of the Wings learned how to be a “Professional and Winner” from Steve Yzerman. If I’m not mistaken Yzerman won NOTHING before Fedorov,Lidtrom,Konstantinov, and a host of other Hall of Famers, not to mention Scotty Bowman. So maybe they brought the “Winning Attitude” to the Wings with them, and he was just lucky to hang around Detroit long enough to realize what was about to happen.Could that be the case? Just a thought, What do you think?

Linda, without the captain being willing to stick around and sacrifice his fantastic numbers (as well as various body parts), we’re not having this conversation. There’s a reason there’s a C hanging with his number at the Joe.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 05/22/09 at 06:42 PM ET
No actually I don’t,I’m new but by judging by the hospitality here,I think I’ll be hanging around alot more. And as far as glue I can’t because if I did I would fail my methadone urine

Alright finally here,
I had to break rule 737** because I was climbing the walls all day waiting for this.
It better not be a nail-biter,
I want a blowout,’
I need a blowout so bad that I don’t even care which team it is.
Nobody will take he Wings down in 4 of 7, so an extra game is OK, as long as it is a blowout.
I don’t think I can handle another nail-biter right now.
There is a noose hanging in the tree right outside my door, and if tonight goes into OT, I may have to use it…..regardless of the outcome.
It’s our Cup, and we’re keepin’ it.
**RULE 737: no laundry on game day.

From Jeff’s GDT:
Holmstrom-Filppula-Hossa
Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary
Hudler-Helm-Samuelsson
Leino-Draper-Maltby
Given Uncle Mike’s propensity to make spur-of-the-moment line changes, what are the chances Samuelsson might see line 1a time in place of Holmstrom? Losing Datsyuk means we won’t have the Flying Circus tonight when needed in pressure situations.
