Every once in a while, at Game 2, a small but vocal band of Hawk fans made their presence felt. They were in one of those overhang deals, kind of a private box in the 202 section. They’d pick and choose their spots and yell it in unison.
“Detroit sucks.”
Idiots in the crowd got angry. They swore and pointed. A few drank some more and yelled more bad things at those people. The Hawk fans laughed and taunted the idiots.
But when Dan Cleary scored to give the Wings a 2-1 lead, something strange happened. Two entire sections, hundreds of people turned at once, peered up at the Hawk fan box and waved. All at once waving. It was awesome.
And I’ll tell you this, no matter how much you hate the Hawk fans...those guys handled it well. They laughed along with us and took it. And when Sammy pooped in a box to end it, those guys shook a few hands before they left. Pretty cool.
Tonite? It won’t even be close. Tonite? If you’re a Wing fan in Chicago you’re not safe and that’s just the way it is.
Because everyone knows what this game means. Wings win and this bitch is done. Over. Hawks? Not so much.
Half a dozen to a dozen.
It’s a Live Blog bitches.

Evening 19.
A Jameson and many other drinks on their way. I haven’t turned on the TV yet, too much stress, what is the latest on Dats?
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 05/22/09 at 07:02 PM ET
My mental state for the first two games has been “eh, I really expect us to win.” OT in game seven provided my ability not to think in that manner again, for the rest of the playoffs.
I wanted us to win against the #ucks. Some of you may have read my reasons why we would win game seven. We did. I was happy.
What I was greeted with after that was the b’hawks. Jump to last season (they scared us). Then the New Years day game (which was at the end of the day a regular season game. The most important regular season game. Probably. But, ask any of the bubble teams at the end of the season. Most important game of the regular season for Us. The 19. Did we win? Pretty sure, took a nap after I drank 20 beers in 3 1/2 hours so I’m pretty sure I rememb.... yes. We won. Was it the wind? No.......
Whew.
TCD watched some series against the ‘Hawks. I think he would digg the fact that we have to get through them to play in the SCF. I think it’s almost a testimony to the cap if the same two teams end up in the finals two straight years. It aint workin.
That said, I think we can all be pretty much happy to have to face either of the teams left in the eastern conference. I live in a Carolina. I wear Red WIng t-shirts and hats all over town where I am. I can’t say I’ve seen a Carolina fan in the whole time I’ve lived here in the past year. The one time hockey came up I was harassed by Phili fans in Greenville before we moved to Central.
I hope it’s loud in Chi-town tonite. They have come a long way. No where near the path that our Wings have blazed in the past 20 years. That is the story of this series.
Again. TCD likes this series.
Pasha, out.... Bring it Helmer
LET’S GO RED WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet.....nice couple of days away from computers, beating around in the mountains, clean livin’ and all that good shit. Then I log on here(dailup connection can suck it like Corey Perry) and find out the news about 13. Went stright to the closet and grabbed a new jar of ‘shine for tonight.
I guess it was inevitable that I would stress on this series at some point.

Good start with Sweet Home Chicago.
Don’ Cherry dressed like a Blooze Brother on CBC.
And a loss tonight at least means that Dats gets more time to heal before any potential advancement to the SCF.
Hoss worked well with Fil earlier; let’s hope that continues tonight.

maybe he’s one of those Fedorov players who wants to be THE MAN and do it all, or mostly, himself. tonight would be a good night for that.
I say put him back with Franzen.

Opposite field homer for Inge. How long before the steroid talk starts?
Chief that would seriously upset the Inge for HOF crowd here in Detroit
Posted by Speedy Sammich from DTown on 05/22/09 at 07:12 PM ET
Puck possesion and NO TURNOVER are key!
Posted by stonehands-78 from the beginning ... a WingsFan, on 05/22/09 at 07:13 PM ET
He’s out Voox.
In that case the booze is on the house tonight. And there is a high probability that your bartender will be a drunken mess shortly.
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 05/22/09 at 07:13 PM ET
Then again, a win tonight and we can stop stressing about Dats-- both winning without him (depth) and going 3-0 up would do wonders for the stress level...Need a Stress Leveller…
Hawks ice it, good early start.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor from Fortress Europe on 05/22/09 at 07:14 PM ET
Jeebus Hossa put it on net.
hate to say it, but Pavel would have known Homer was all alone charging the net, and gotten him the puck...or at least tried.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/22/09 at 07:14 PM ET
I don’t get matching Leino with Drapes and Maltby, but WTF do I know.
Posted by RWBill from jabbing a six inch sewing needle into my eye. on 05/22/09 at 07:14 PM ET
Wow did Versa blow it by not showing the national anthem.
Once again CBC shows how it’s done. Oh, and they have past his prime Bob Cole calling the Crosby Show so we have the excellent pipes of Jim Hughson. But no Dats so all I can hear is the sound of my own sobbing.
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 05/22/09 at 07:15 PM ET
Hawks are trying to get too cute with their passes...I hope they keep it up.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 05/22/09 at 07:15 PM ET
Both teams look tight.
Both looking for pass instead of shot
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 05/22/09 at 07:15 PM ET
Big thanks to that Hawk player that let us get away with a turnover center of the ice just inside our zone.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 05/22/09 at 07:16 PM ET
Wings are throwing the body around. I like it, as long as they don’t get out of position to do it. Helm with a nice check, and Zetterberg has been a wrecking ball so far.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/22/09 at 07:16 PM ET
Just getting in from the baseball game.. 3-3 for the little turd.
Cheers 19.
I say 1 for 13 tonight.
Let’s roll.

OZZY!!
Posted by stonehands-78 from the beginning ... a WingsFan, on 05/22/09 at 07:17 PM ET
‘Hawks certainly look VERY TIGHT.
Be really nice if the Wings can get on the board first tonight
Ozzie is in the game, thank Gawd

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
