Every once in a while, at Game 2, a small but vocal band of Hawk fans made their presence felt. They were in one of those overhang deals, kind of a private box in the 202 section. They’d pick and choose their spots and yell it in unison.
“Detroit sucks.”
Idiots in the crowd got angry. They swore and pointed. A few drank some more and yelled more bad things at those people. The Hawk fans laughed and taunted the idiots.
But when Dan Cleary scored to give the Wings a 2-1 lead, something strange happened. Two entire sections, hundreds of people turned at once, peered up at the Hawk fan box and waved. All at once waving. It was awesome.
And I’ll tell you this, no matter how much you hate the Hawk fans…those guys handled it well. They laughed along with us and took it. And when Sammy pooped in a box to end it, those guys shook a few hands before they left. Pretty cool.
Tonite? It won’t even be close. Tonite? If you’re a Wing fan in Chicago you’re not safe and that’s just the way it is.
Because everyone knows what this game means. Wings win and this bitch is done. Over. Hawks? Not so much.
Half a dozen to a dozen.
It’s a Live Blog bitches.

I’m starting to think Filppula is never going to be a noticeable player

And I’m starting to think you’re never gonna learn Tyler. He does the little things that make teams win. That’s good enough for me
+2.

Sharp has been dangerous on the forecheck all night.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 05/22/09 at 09:40 PM ET
Yeah—the Hawks were able to take advantage of ELEVEN MINUTES OF PP TIME IN THE FIRST!
That ain’t exactly takin’ advantage…except by the refs.

6 shots on a rusty goalie is not good. Overtime makes me sad.

There is a noose hanging in the tree right outside my door, and if tonight goes into OT, I may have to use it…..regardless of the outcome.

Maltby is having a great game tonight, Not sure if anyone’s mentioned him in the last 5 years, but his hustle is one of the unsung stats.

6 shots on a rusty goalie is not good.
‘Hawks only took 6 SOG too.
‘Hawks having to play tight “D” b/c their rusty goalie.
Wings SHOULD come out jumping.

How big was the decision to put Maltby back in ?
Should have dressed Meech instead of Leino.
Leino is not ready for prime time, looking more and more like he needs at least 2 or 3 more years in GR.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd on 05/22/09 at 09:47 PM ET
I’m still going with Hossa.
Man! is he due!

Charlie Buckets for the winner.

Leino for the game winner. he’s had great energy, some good chances, and will have the freshest legs. breakaway? here it comes.

except for the one deer-in-the-headlights moment, I thought he has looked pretty good.

Hawks managed to avoid losing the third period. Still, I’ll keep stressing it. We have to remain patient. Controlled aggression is a must. We basically have to trick them into trying to open it up, wait until they get frustrated. That game-ending mistake will come.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 05/22/09 at 09:48 PM ET

Good game after being a healthy scratch. It never fails.

Ding ding! You win the grand prize—a twenty-minute overtime period!
I’ll take Hoss. He’s overdue. Time to show us what he’s here for. What Cups are made of.

I gotta like our chances in OT. Don’t look back. Only look forward. Bitches.

There’s no mention of length or height in terms of how a player a leaves his skate. Maybe its semantics arguing over what kind of penalty Kronwall got, but it was charging in or book. And he could’ve still been kicked out of the game at the official’s discretion.
The bottom line is, Kronwall has gotten away with hits like this for far too long. It’s about time he faces some discipline for it, even if it’s only within this game tonight. Given how random the NHL’s supplemental discipline is, we can’t even speculate what Colin Campbell will do.
You guys see this shit yet over at puckdaddy?
