Gettin’ Your Share?  No? I Guess A Game 3 Live Blog Will Have To Suffice

Every once in a while, at Game 2, a small but vocal band of Hawk fans made their presence felt.  They were in one of those overhang deals, kind of a private box in the 202 section.  They’d pick and choose their spots and yell it in unison.

“Detroit sucks.”

Idiots in the crowd got angry. They swore and pointed.  A few drank some more and yelled more bad things at those people.  The Hawk fans laughed and taunted the idiots.

But when Dan Cleary scored to give the Wings a 2-1 lead, something strange happened.  Two entire sections, hundreds of people turned at once, peered up at the Hawk fan box and waved.  All at once waving.  It was awesome.

And I’ll tell you this, no matter how much you hate the Hawk fans…those guys handled it well.  They laughed along with us and took it.  And when Sammy pooped in a box to end it, those guys shook a few hands before they left.  Pretty cool.

Tonite?  It won’t even be close.  Tonite?  If you’re a Wing fan in Chicago you’re not safe and that’s just the way it is.

Because everyone knows what this game means.  Wings win and this bitch is done.  Over.  Hawks?  Not so much.

Half a dozen to a dozen.

It’s a Live Blog bitches.

What the hell team took the ice in OT? Sure wasn’t the Red Wings that controlled (more or less) the latter 30 minutes of regulation.

No desperation at all. UGH.

When the hell is this team going to start a game, or in this case, a period, on time?

Pretty tough to start when you spend the first ten minutes killing penalties…

Without the first-period reffing, this game doesn’t even got to OT.

Hawks got nothing. Short spurts like a cheap porn star but nothing sustained. Two goals tonight without a zebra assist. ain’t gonna carry them.

we can’t even speculate what Colin Campbell will do.

If he lifts the suspension, that would be admitting the officials screwed up big time.  I don’t see how that is hard to speculate.  There will be a lot of spin on this…..It is kind of convenient how the rule book contradicts itself every 3 pages.

Our man left the ice for a split, but during the hit, not before into Havlat…

That was bad…

Was out at the bar, no sound so it was hard to judge aspects of the game.

Looked like both teams were asleep early, and the UC crowd didn’t look all that excited judging by the shots after their first goal.

The comeback was amazing, but the Wings were lucky to force it to OT.

Kronner’s main mistake was hitting the most fragile guy in the NHL. Havlat’s always been suffering from one kind of an injury or another. There was no intentional leap there, nothing like the blatant way Pronger leaves the ice.

We couldn’t figure out the deal with Khabibulin. Was he pulled due to the comback or is he injured too?

Hmm, not sure how to feel about this game.  It sucks to lose in OT but with everything that went on, I think it was amazing that the game even went that far.

Great effort after that bravo sierra of a 1st period. I’ve been watching hockey for 35 years and have never seen a major, game miscouduct for interference. If you could’t call it a charge or boarding, is that the 3rd option in Gary the ass’s rule book against dyanisties? The wings had their chance to suck the preverbial life out of this series ,but only 6 shots on a cold goaltender in the 3rd ? We need 60 mins of total effort on Sunday. Especially you,Hossa.

Just to add stress to our already super fun night, Draper apparently strained his groin. Let’s just hope Dangle is back so we’re not relying on Leino, Abdelkader, and Helm. Helm has been great, Leino wasn’t half-bad tonight, and I think Abdelkader has a good future in the wheel, but let’s not kid ourselves—with the Pav injury, the Kronwall ejection, Hudler serving his major penalty, and Draper missing a chunk of the third, the Wings simply ran out of gas.

If not for a broken stick they might have had a shot to win the game, but if that game goes more than 10 minutes deep into OT, fact is the bench was just getting too short.

Nathan I agree the longer OT went, the worse our odds were with the short bench. I did like the energy of that Malts, Leino, Sammy line. That seems to be a good line to have when we have a lead.

Fair enough. But crummy officiating and a bad break on that broken stick prevented the Wings from ever having a lead.

I’m still not impressed with Chicago’s D. Even without Dangle Dangle to match up with, they still scrambled like crazy in the second and parts of the third to keep the Wings from potting a few goals. They don’t seem to know what to do with Wally, Helm, Franzen, and Samuelsson.

And if you’re looking for a silver lining, Homer finally had some very good net-front presence in this game, and even though he didn’t get the tip on it, he was as responsible for that first goal as anyone.

Even though we lost the short OT may have saved a bit of wear and tear on our shortened bench.

Time to go listen to some quality Detroit jams from J Dilla, Slum Village, and Black Milk.

For the fans of other teams who said that Dats was absent, I give you game three of this series. The offensive threat wasn’t consistant, the defensive pressure wasn’t there and the puck possession wasn’t normal. There is a lot to hockey besides the scoresheet. Here’s hoping that he’s in the lineup on Sunday.

Gross Misconducts are my thing and yeah, the auto (unless Campbell wipes it away) suspensions happen on match penalties.  That was not the case.

Given what we’ve seen from Campbell’s Wheel of Justice so far in the playoffs there won’t be a suspension since they’ll take Kronwall’s game misconduct to be his “punishment.”

Fact of the matter is, some how, some way, Dan O’Halloran and Dean Jackson manage to get their finger prints all over this one.  Kicking out Kronwall boned over Detroit’s defense for the rest of the game and it showed late in the game as Lidstrom was double-shifting his ass off and while Stuart played one of his best games as a Red Wing, this team was gassed and sloppy at the end.  You take out Pavel and you knock ‘em down shorthanded on the blue line bad things happen.

It’s just one game and the Hawks won with the aid of some shotty officiating and with Pav being out for the game. Had the game been played like the 3rd period was, with no penalties and good flow, I would have liked the Wings chances. They competed hard tonight, they came back and showed heart through a ton of adversity, and in the end you just move on from the game. It’s an experienced bunch who have been through this before and I like their chances going into Sunday.

I was hoping that the turning point of the game was going to be that missed 5:00 PP opportunity the Hawks had. The fact they didn’t score on that kept lingering to me throughout the game and when the game was tied, would be a moment to look back on if the Hawks had lost.

Bettman is turning this league into the NBA where the officials control the game. It was mentioned on another board that neither referee had their arm up for a penalty on Kronwall’s hit, and seemingly only gave him a penalty once they saw that Havlat was KO’d. Penalizing the result is irresponsible officiating by the league and only proves to me that calls are being made based on reactions and injury rather than intent. It’s no wonder why everyone in the league dives.

The league already notified Babs that Kronner won’t be suspended. Proves that the referees made the wrong call.

The one surprise tonight was CBC.

It is the first time in many years that someone besides Don Cherry didn’t sound like they were on NPR when someone went down from a hard hit.

It guess it started back when Howie Meeker retired.

I’ve given it some thought, and concluded that the Don won’t be back next season.  Milbury and Hrudey are competing for his Coach’s Corner.

The real circus will be tomorrow’s papers.  They have a couple of real wienie’s writing for the globe, dedicated to turning the NHL into cupcake hockey.  Watch the main page, Paul will be all over it.

Just watched the Babcock presser. I get the sense that he’s losing patience with some of the things going against us in these playoffs. He was irked after the Brown hit on Hudler, he was miffed after the screwjob in Game 3 against the Ducks, he was mum after the thug tactics of the Ducks after Game 6. Tonight (last night) he sounded edgy, like he’s getting tired of getting the short end of the stick. He said something tonight I had never heard him say: “Players can have bad games. Coaches can have bad games. Officials can’t have bad calls or games.” That’s probably the closest we’ll ever hear Uncle Mike to criticzing the refs without getting fined.

And for god’s sake, ENOUGH with O’Halloran on Red Wings games. The guy has a grudge, and he’s making it known.

I’d like to know as well. While logically the league shouldn’t suspend Kronwall, “the league” and “logical” aren’t exactly bosom buddies.

Injuries and officiating. Christ, either the officials are purposely making bs calls, or they seriously do not know what is considered a penalty. I’m not sure which scares me more.
