Grigorenko On Second Line With Datsyuk?

That appears to be what an optimistic organ-I-zation would like to see this fall. Jim Nill spoke with nhl.com’s John McGourty about Grigorenko and a few other prospects.
“We think he’ll be a really good second-line guy that might suit Datsyuk. He has the potential to be a star, but it’s one day at a time to start. For instance, if we want him to go to the minors to catch up with the speed, how does he accept that? It won’t do him any good to struggle up here and not play much. A lot of Europeans don’t respect the AHL, but four weeks in the minors might be the best way to get up to NHL speed.”

Hey, Thomas, stick to what you know…which, apparently is nothing! Igor has never played in the AHL. And I doubt his lack of familiarity with the English language will severely handicap him on a line with Datsyuk.
Man, are all Avs fans this dense? Okay, just checking, I already know the answer to that.

Personal attacks? How surprising.
You’re right, he never played in the AHL. My mistake. Doesn’t change my point in the slightest.
Oh, and playing on a line with Datsyuk doesn’t make it any easier for him to go out and get a meal on an off day, or get his dry cleaning done or call the cable company when he has a problem.
*shakes head*
Wings fans.

That’s alright, Thomas. As an Avs fan, you should never let the facts get in the way of your fantasy.
As for Igor, the guy will make $858,000 this season. So, getting a meal (with Pavel by his side) or getting his dry cleaning done will definitely be a problem. Yup! No doubt about it. He’s doomed to fail.
Maybe you should spend your time worrying about just making the playoffs this year.

Ah, yes, the, “I’m bored!” troll.
Igor Grigorenko’s been to North America before, back in 04, he’s 24 now and is bound and determined to overcome the language issues and cultural adjustment to playing in the NHL for a team with extensive experience in successfully bringing European players over to North America, and, at this point, he’s supposed to be at 90-95% of his previous “bona-fide superstar” level of play.
And if he doesn’t play well and goes home, the Wings are out $100K and can put Zetterberg and Datsyuk back together.
The Wings are well aware of the fact that in Russia, the team provides everything from housing and transportation to utilities and sometimes even food, and they’ve got both a few Russian-speakers on staff and will make sure Grigorenko has a translator/assistant who can help him learn what he needs to know to get around town, go grocery shopping, set up a bank account, etc. etc.
It’s not a recipe for disaster, nor is it a sure bet. If Grigs struggles and doesn’t want to go to the AHL, the Wings are out $150K and put Zetterberg and Datsyuk back together. It’ll be really cool if he does succeed, and if he doesn’t, Nill said it himself—it’s a two-month trial, and if he wants to go back to Russia, the Red Wings will adjust accordingly.

Tell you Avs fans what: You can have Smyth’s 40 goals and his 7 mil deal and we’ll take Grigorenko’s 15-20 goals and 858k deal.
Then, in three years when Smyth is scoring only 20 goals, you can complain about having to pay him 7 mil to stink.

Hmm…a guy who has never played a single NHL game, who failed miserably in the AHL, and who has REGRESSED since being drafted is now being asked to come to a new continent with a completely foreign language and fill a scoring line role on a team expected to win the division and contend for the Cup, that has absolutely no plan B in case he fails…yeah, that’s not a recipe for disaster or anything.
