Click to donate.

Was out shoveling and got to thinking that we may as well just lift the cap.  We hate caps around here, anyway Gary.  So, we’re going to open the donation window back up and here’s a little bonus.  Whatever goes unspent will be donated to the Red Wings Wish Club, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

And?

For a small donation to Children’s Hospital (wishes start at just $50), fans can have a special birthday, anniversary or get well wish broadcast on the Joe Louis Arena Jumbotron.

Giddy up.

More mentionsThanks boys (and girls).  Also, check out the comment from Lindas1st in this thread.  He may have earned himself honorary 19 status with that.

A few ditties:

5 people have donated 19 dollars.
1 person donated 40 and said it was in honor of our latest injury.
1 person donated 66 bucks. A quick glance at PensBlog verified the significance of that number.
At least 5 people have donated 100 or more.

Chief,I had a feeling that you were going to suggest something on this order. There are also many food banks in the Metro area that could use anything in the way of donations. Focus Hope and Gleaners come to mind.

Wow….I go off to get snowed in for three days (a highly over-rated experience, by the way), away from the Gore, and came back to whine about our injury list some more.

Looks like we’ve changed the topic for a while. An excellent development. Good on whomever thought it up. If this thing gets the exposure it deserves, there is no telling where it ends up.

And maybe I’ll make it back to Detroit for the first time in ten years. Sounds like an urban myth in the making, and I’d hate to miss it.

Nope, it’s a guy.  He picked his name because his mom’s name is Linda and he’s the oldest, so first child.  (I only remember that because I’m the oldest kid in my family, too.)

Pretty perceptive comment.  The fans of other teams who wander through from time to time understand that criticism is fine, just base it in reality - that “OMG, you’re team is so OOOOOLD and washed up!!!!1” crap belongs on msm blogs.  smile

I’m not one of the 19 and I’m not even a regular here but I am a die hard Wings fan and this just reaffirms that the best hockey team has the best fan base. I am going to give as much as I can once I get the money. There is nothing that could lessen how much respect and admiration I have for all the 19 and anyone else who is helping out. Perhaps Detroit should take the title of “City of Brotherly Love” from Philly. They certainly deserve it after this.

Okay, here’s the ticket info from The Sports Nook.  These guys are willing to take really good care of us.  I had no idea how many there would be, I estimated 25 and am currently at 34.  So he gave me a quote based on blocks of 25.  The price level would be 39/49/59 depending on how low and will likely be corner or behind the net.  That seems really good to me, but my “home” arena is the UC where SRO tickets are 8 billion dollars if you can even get them, so let me know what you think.

He said they may be able to go cheaper but it would break us up in to two or three groups in one section.  I asked him about adding more and am waiting to hear back.

What do you guys think?  I’ll still call the RW Ticket Office tomorrow to see what they can do.

Also, I have received a couple of emails and DMs on twitter so now other people are assisting in the “take this as far as we possibly can” effort.

Hi 19. I just visited the Red Wings Community Comment Page on the site:

http://redwings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=com_contact

I sent them the following email regarding “Public Relations”.

“Hello,

The well-known (and slightly infamous) Abel to Yzerman blog (http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/a2y/) is sponsoring a trip by a Brazilian Wings fan to the Joe. Individual readers of the blog have donated over $1000 in about 30 hours to fly our internet friend, Herm, to watch a live game of the team he loves, the Red Wings. So far, nearly 30 other Wings fans have made a commitment to see this game live. In addition, we, the readers of the blog, are going to donate any extra proceeds to the Wings Wish Club, benefitting the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

We feel that this might be an excellent opportunity for the Wings organization to: (1) recognize the extensive international fan base of the greatest team in hockey, and (2) demonstrate the generosity of Wings fans and the whole Red Wings organization. Any help or support you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Seaner”

Maybe they will go along and help out our merry “Band of Bitches”.

Hello 19,

Frequent reader of A2Y but never seem to get around to joining in the discussions.  Needless to say, I thought this would be a good time to chime in.  Whether the donations go toward getting a wings fan to his first hockey game or to the children’s hospital, I couldn’t think of a better cause to contribute to.  This is a great idea and truly exemplifies what the holidays should be about.  Hats off A2Y, well done.

@ Jenny -

Those seem like excellent prices to me, too - but again, I don’t have a good basis for comparison.  Maybe someone who has gone to a few game in Detroit would have a better idea how those compare to the prices they have paid for tickets.

At least it gives the people in the initial stages of planning an idea of how much of a committment the tickets would be.

Perhaps Detroit should take the title of “City of Brotherly Love” from Philly. They certainly deserve it after this.

Well, we sure as hell wouldn’t throw snowballs at Santa.  Only at another guy in a red suit whose name can spell S-A-T-A-N…Todd Bertuzzi.  But we’re a charitable lot, and I’m all for it, so Chief—great idea.

Lindas1st, very good post.  I would say that I didn’t think you had it in you, but I’d be lying—you can be a very warm and genuine person when you’re not seeking the approval of others.  I agree about the sentiment that the 19 is a family, but if the Chief is our father, well…I have daddy issues.

Jenny, Sports Nook sounds damn good, but if the Joe ticket office can do us one better, go for that.

Also, 19, I have a slight dilemma.  When I come in, I’ll probably stay with my older sister or parents in A2 (not A2Y, Ann Arbor).  I was thinking about renting a car to get to the game, but that precludes me hoisting a cold one among friends.  My little sister is currently living in the Cass corridor, but that may change by next March.  So I might just get a hotel room near the Joe—I’m open to recommendations.  But if anyone has any alternate ideas, I’m all ears.  And if anybody isn’t drinking but is driving, give me a lift and you’ve found someone to keep your gas tank full.

Thanks guys.
