A slow Sunday. Kinda lazy. Perusing the sports pages and various hockey blogs. Thought this was unique from Pittsburgh last night.
Courtesy of Empty Netters, a unique costume…
Kinda weird. But then…look closer at some of the male patrons? Disturbing.

Subtle, eh? I don’t see Darren Garcia there, but something tells me he’s close by.

The only one with any sense of shame seems to be the kid in the ‘real’ penguins jersey in the bottom left. Also happens to be the only non-band-wagon fan in that picture.
...
But then again, I can’t tell where his hands are.

Cup champs. Best record in the league. Living in a city that has had more pro sports success than any other the last two years…and still their inferiority complex is so severe that they can’t stop focusing on the Wings. It’s what we’ve said it would be and it’s awesome.
Hypocrite much?
Can’t stop thinking about those Penguins, huh? Shouldn’t you be celebrating a rare Red Wings win last night or something?
I wouldn’t spend much time concentrating on my own team if I was you, either, a team in the death throes with a bunch of guys who are too old and all the “young hope” turning out to be nothing but garbage.

Also, Gramps, your prognostications, you might want to dial them back a bit. You predicted an easy win in Edmonton and a game that would require heavy drinking in Calgary.

Let’s recognize the excellent coaching and player-managent by Babcock.
Every time (a generalization, but close enough for a blog) Babcock has healthy-scratched a player he’s come back with great energy and contributions. Draper, Maltby, Eaves has played with energy, next Helm.
The Draper Helm Abdulkader line was extremely good, nice grouping, Coach.
Will Leino respond too? I hope so.
If May is out a week Leino will get back in the game, maybe also bring up a player?
A couple of days ago I mentioned they needed to start playing with KISS no turnover playoff mentality, last night was about as tight a regular season game as anyone will play, after the first minute at least.
6 out of 10 points on a long west coast trip is as good and better than they used to get 2 and 3 years ago through California when they finished with 118 points.

Like I said, why are you so preoccupied with the Penguins today after the Wings won their 5th game in October?
Simple jealousy?
Projection for failures elsewhere in your life?
And yep, that was funny how Zetterberg ran away from big tough Malkin.
Almost as funny as Niedermayer kicking the crap out of Datsyuk.
Must be fun having a couple of eunuchs as your two best players.
Wanna know something funny? Sidney Crosby (cup winning captain) is younger than Leino, Abdelkader and Helm, all of them.
The future is so bright in Pittsburgh it’s disgusting, so get used to it.

And that’s why Crosby was a can’t-miss top pick. Are we supposed to be surprised that he’s a better player than they are?
When you have nearly 20 straight years of success, you don’t get can’t-miss draft picks; you have to develop what you can get. That’s all the more reason why Detroit’s long-term success is so damned impressive.
The future is so bright in Pittsburgh it’s disgusting, so get used to it.
Shero’s got chops, just hope that he can keep Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Fleury together.
That is, unless you’re one of those “trade Staal” idiots I’ve read so much about.

Buying players in FA had a lot to do with the Wings staying near the top pre-lockout.

Wow, you’re retarded.
If my concise sentence was juvenile rambling, what is your poorly punctuated run-on of a paragraph (complete with a dazzling display of poor capitalization) supposed to be?
Guess you couldn’t argue the point at hand - Detroit’s aging talent is on the downside, and their prospects that were supposed to fill in for all that lost production this offseason haven’t shown up.
That’s a bad place to be for a team that wasn’t good enough last season with far more pieces in place.

Yep, so a good 20% of our dynasty has been since the lockout and we’ve still been incredibly successful.
For all the “buying cups” crap that people still want to throw out there, the 2000-01 Rangers up to the lockout had a salary of between $23 and $35 million more than the league average and they missed the playoffs each of those years. The Rangers still don’t have as strong a scouting or farm system as Detroit does. It’s relatively easy to have a successful draft class when you’re near the top, significantly harder to find talent that will ever be NHL caliber with the later selections. The Wings have done it better than anybody.

Let’s review shall we:
Yzerman = drafted Shanahan = aquired via trade
Fedorov = drafted Hasek = aquired via trade
Lidstrom = drafted Maltby = aquired via trade
Holmstrom = drafted Chelios = aquired via trade
Osgood = drafted
Kronwall = drafted Draper = aquired from Winnipeg for $1.00
Zetterberg = drafted
Koslov = drafted Cleary = training camp invitee
Hudler = drafted
Konstantinov = drafted
Fischer = drafted
Hull = U.F.A
Robitalle = U.F.A
Joseph = U.F.A
Your right !! The evidence is overwhelming. The Wings “bought” their Cups.

Are you seriously trying to discount the roles that Hull and Robitaille played in 2002?
No mention of Derian Hatcher?
Beyond FA, they benefited from fire-sale deals along the way because their owner sold enough crappy pizzas to not have to worry about payroll.

Are you seriously trying to discount the roles that Hull and Robitaille played in 2002?
So now your argument hinges upon all of three free-agent signings, one of them being Derian Hatcher?
Also, Robitaille signed for less than what was considered his market value to get the chance to win a cup in Detroit, then performed less than what many people expected (sound familiar?)
because their owner sold enough crappy pizzas to not have to worry about payroll.
Oh please, don’t make fun of Little Caesar’s pizza. You’re a monster. The Wings also didn’t have to worry about payroll by then because they were enjoying the fruits of the better part of a decade of building a home grown success of a franchise, a mold that Pittsburgh has thankfully used themselves.
Complain about how unfair the pre-cap era was to your smaller-market Penguins, but taking an objective look back indicates that there’s always been a right way to do it and just because you’ve got the cash, doesn’t mean you’ll get the success.
Or, you could just keep telling us about how sour those grapes used to be.

This. Money is great, but it’s useless if you don’t know how to use it properly.
Plus, I don’t see how the salary cap has helped teams like the Penguins. I haven’t gone back and compared stats or anything, but it feels like there’s still just as much distance between the top teams and the bottom feeders as there was before the lockout. The Penguins, the Capitals, these teams that have prospered since ‘05, owe their success as much to no-brainer draft picks as anything else. And I’m not sure how the cap is necessarily going to make it any easier to retain all that talent.

At least you are slowly losing the facade of passivity to show your true bitter self. Go flog the dog in the corner, but don’t let your mom catch you.
In case you, or Todd, or anyone else doesn’t remember, the Chief frequently pulls out articles from other bloggers/MSM. It’s why he isn’t finger-f’ing himself with links to himself like TheLinkGoesHere.
If you want to read a guy pretend to be smart and then tell you how smart he is repeatedly by pretending his own words are gospel, then read TheLinkGoesHere.
I like the Chief because he is unapologetic about being a cocky Wings fan. Long-term fans of this team have a right to be cocky. Like Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Cowboys fan, we can rub a lot of people the wrong way. But you have to begrudge us, because we are winning franchises with long term success.
And who knows? The Chief may be inciting Pens fans, with his repeated jabs at their bandwagon fans with peach fuzz chins, intentionally. After all, he has v2.0 of the Rivalry Depth Chart to complete, and oh… nevermind… v2.0 of the Depth Chart will never be complete. I should know better.

He kept playing until the whistle blew. Good man.
“When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and his team has possession of the puck, the play shall be stopped immediately to allow the goalkeeper the opportunity to regain his helmet and/or face mask. When the opposing team has possession of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity. This stoppage of play must be made by the Referee. When play is stopped because the goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask, the ensuing face-off shall take place at one of the defending team’s end zone face-off spots.”
So, by rule, the refs were correct to not blow the whistle due to the fact the opposing team had the puck and had an impending scoring opportunity. In fact, they may have blew the whistle too soon, as he did not have control of the puck as far as I could tell, although once the puck hit him I guess that counts as his team having possession.
