Hartigan Called Up

Kirk Maltby didn’t skate again today, or at least didn’t practice due to a sore shoulder.  Anti-digger Bruce MacLeod reports that the Wings have reached down to Grand Rapids.

Mark Hartigan is on the ice for this morning’s skate, being called up from Grand Rapids yesterday. Hartigan flew in from Toronto (the Griffins played the Marlies yesterday afternoon) this morning. Kirk Maltby (shoulder) didn’t skate for the second consecutive day and won’t be in the lineup tonight. Matt Ellis had his first practice with the team since suffering a concussion last Thursday. Ellis might return to the lineup next Tuesday at the earliest.

MacLeod lists lines in practice as follows:

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Hudler-Filppula-Samuelsson
Drake-Franzen-Cleary
Kopecky-Hartigan-Downey

According to MacLeod, Jim Nill recommended Hartigan’s call-up due to the fact he’s been the Griffs’ best forward so far this year with 11 goals and 17 points through 20 games.  Nill also said Hartigan’s biggest challenge will be to adopt a grinder’s mindset after playing top line minutes.

The Hudler/Fil/Sam line looked very good against Calgary.  I don’t have to tell you, because you’re all so frigging smart, that the probable key to late Spring happiness lies with those three….or whoever comprises the second line by then.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
