Update: “Sailor” should be capitalized. Baby steps Paul.
The sailor asked me to let you know he should be online around puck drop time.

...but has Downey become the ‘forgotten man’ or what?
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 05/08 at 09:42 PM
A little bit. I’m sure he’s a vocal part of the team in practices and such. I don’t think he could keep quiet unless his lips were stapled together, so he’s probably having a fun time anyway.

Been savin’ that one, Dub? I figured it’d be the hit pic again—not that there’s anything wrong with that one.
Vladdie…Godfather of the ‘98 Cup win.

maybe this is a bit premature…but, who is the #7 banner going to be?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/08/08 at 08:48 PM ET
DET sure is sitting back this period

If I wasn’t lazy, I’d post the video of Game 4 of the ‘98 Series where Vlad and Mnats came back to the Joe for the first time.
Doc and JD were nearly in tears.

Gotta mix it up a bit, ‘Drew.
I am once again hesitant to even dare say this, but #55 shows small glimpses of #16…

do the statisticians keep track of negated icings? they should.

I hear ya Dub, and it’s all good.
I’m a little bit wary of invoking the hallowed memory of VK too, but for what it’s worth, he never moved the puck half as good as Kronwall. I’d like to think that he’s taught him a thing or two about laying on the body, though—that’s pure Vladdie.
DET sure is sitting back this period
Third and fourth lines getting the lion’s share of the ice time now.

Anyone else notice the hit by Chelios on Winchester as the Stars were breaking out? He had him lined up, head down, and was stepping up. But then it looked like he realised he’s 46 and slowed up.

#7 = Ted Lindsay
Make that: Terrible Ted Lindsay!!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 05/08/08 at 08:54 PM ET
Damn, almos had a Datsyuk breakaway on Turco there…that would’ve been fun for the whole family. And a boon to the goalie-diaper industry.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor on 05/08/08 at 08:56 PM ET
datsyuk =

+

how in the hell he even got into the Dallas zone with that puck is beyond me.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/08/08 at 08:56 PM ET
TD, where do you find those pieces of history at?

I saw that.
a few years ago, a different result.

Ahhh… Little Douche already making excuses for Bubba Sr.

WOW, Dub, THAT is a blast from the past—the All-Rookie game. That really is something. Kids.
Mind you, we ain’t so young ourselves anymore…
Brad Winchester has hands like shovels. And he’s about as dumb as one.

What a really good showing by DET—Rust and all

Just listen a minute in. Watching it now makes me proud to be a fellow hockey fan. I was 8 years old when I saw this, and I sort of understood the story, and I think a part of me knew that day that this hockey stuff was gonna’ be a part of me for a long time.
Posted by Steve from New Jersey on 05/08/08 at 09:01 PM ET
That’s an amazing pic Dub…
They’re getting frustrated.
You know what’s funny. Olzyck is babbling about not letting Det get on the powerplay and giving them a chance to play 5-5; At the same time, they always say that they need to be more physical with the Wings.

nice find! rivals the Wings draft picks.
ok, maybe not…

“You know when you hear cheering for a goal or a save… it comes from your brain. You calculate how your team’s gonna’ do and it’s measured by that. An ovation like this you don’t calculate cause it’s right from your heart.”
It is safe to say Gary Thorne could not produce those words.

SHOTS ON GOAL
1st 2nd 3rd T
Dallas 4 11 6 21
Detroit 12 13 6 31
DET outshoots DAL 3 - 2
PP: DET 3 of 7

Man, Pavel Bure sporting the Last of the Very Great Mullets…but then, if my play declined like his did when he finally cut it like Samson, I’d be rockin’ the Ratt look too.
Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor on 05/08/08 at 09:06 PM ET
Great game, though it won’t stop the Detroit nay-sayers… just wait ‘till it’s Pittsburgh in the Finals. They’ll respect this team yet folks, trust me.

Wanna know the real reason why the Stars took those two penalties at the end of the game? It’s not because they were trying to send a message. Here are some clues as to the real reason:
Stars power play percentage before today: 25.00%
Stars power play percentage after today: 23.44%
Wings power play percentage before today: 20.41%
Wings power play percentage after today: 23.21%
Wings PP %, excluding the two penalties: 24.07%
It was all just to maintain Dallas’ only meaningful statistical advantage over Detroit! Shenanigans, I say.
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 05/08/08 at 09:08 PM ET
anybody else share my empty feeling after that game? I was kind of expecting a playoff game. instead I got another ho-hum game of control by the Wings and the other team not putting up much of a fight. I mean, I want them to win and all, but it would be nice to have a little excitement - have the Wings win a close one where they score a brilliant goal to seal it or whatever. I just feel…empty…after that pathetic performance by Dallas. is that really all they’ve got?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/08/08 at 09:10 PM ET
Christ. Now I’m in tears. Thanks Steve. That was beautiful.
Not a day goes by when he isn’t missed.

Yeah Paul…I hear ya, but this is a luxurious feeling; like getting bored on vacation.
Posted by Osrt on 05/08/08 at 09:14 PM ET
Paul, be careful what you wish for.
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 05/08/08 at 09:15 PM ET
Dallas will be better next game - and likely much better at home. I think they were still a little sluggish after the 2+ games to finish off the Sharks, and Detroit was excited to do something other than practice.
The rest of the games will probably be much more even.
(But once in a while I can handle a game calm enough that the talk turns to traffic and Rhode Island.)

I hope Fabian was watching the game tonight…

I’m not convinced of that, Baroque, but as long as the team is, and they play like it, then it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy and I’ll be happy anyway.
Good game anyway. Good night all, see you Saturday unless you see me first.

I just want to take a moment to say that Osgood has been moving the puck exceptionally well. He does not get enough credit for this aspect of his game.
Of course with the Marty Turco Fellatio Brigade doing the color this is not a surprise.
