Here’s What We Do: Live Blogging A Day That Will Probably Be Uneventful For The Wings

And we can start with this biotch.
Not sure if Sportsnet is referring to last night’s rebuttal or if another has taken place this morning. Kenny, you stubborn bastard you.
Marian Hossa has turned down yet another long-term deal to try his luck as a mercenary on the free agent market. The Red Wings were prepared to keep Hossa in Hockeytown for 10 years.
Anyway, it’s a Live Blog. And we’ll even open it up to you Pens fans who want to take a break from peeking around the corner to see who’s going to steal your Cup.

Mike Knuble;
“In Detroit they had all those flags hanging on the cars . . .
“You got tired of it almost after 2 years in a row. It sounds crazy but . . . It was like, ‘There’s that damn Cup again.’ “
NO Knuble.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

WTF guys. I go be productive for an hour, I come back and you hit me with this Hossa to CHI stuff. I foresee a worthless work afternoon, ten days out from leaving the lab. Great.
Possibility: Chi offers Hossa a 1 year deal, with nothing being assumed about the year after when Kane and Toevvs need to re-sign.
Sure, Hossa wants to settle down, but I can’t imagine settling down with a team you haven’t played a single game with until you test-drive it.

. Why would Hossa play any better against Detroit than he did against Pittsburgh?

Um…he played great against Detroit when he was in Pittsburgh.

Why would Hossa play any better against Detroit than he did against Pittsburgh?
There’s no rational reason to believe he would.
But if you’re a rational human being, why are you on The Hasek?

Caps need some gritty players. Hossa could possibly make them the best team in the Eastern Conference in the regular season but wouldn’t improve a playoff run at the Stanley Cup.
I am definitely OK with Hossa to DC.

I like having former teamates on division rivals. It adds an extra element to the games and both sides know each others achilles heels. Hossa won’t end up in Chicago, but I’d love it if he did.
You know, Columbus has lots of cap space…
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 07/01/09 at 12:16 PM ET
Too bad tick tock doesn’t know Lilja’s long-term prognosis. If Lil’s career is over, wouldn’t it be great to take a shot at Scuderi? That would piss off pen(i)sblog something fierce.

I don’t think I would feel anything if Hossa signed with Columbus.

The Nordilanche should sign Hoss for a year then retire his jersey.

Ok - if Hossa goes to Chicago, then all this “we can be classier than Pittsburgh” shit goes right out the window. Screw him.
Well Chief that lasted all of about 3 hours. I guess classy is not in the cards for wings fans either.

At this point I really do not care where Hossa goes or if he stays. Boston looks like the possible destination.
Maybe he just can’t handle playing in the West after all those years in the East. Easy travel, easy opponents, easy money.
Whatever. In Tick-Tock I trust.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Um…he played great against Detroit when he was in Pittsburgh.
And I’ll bet he played well against Pittsburgh when he was in Atlanta, before they were his former team.

Columbus would be a scary good team if they could get an offensive Dman or two and then sign a guy like Hossa…
Yeah, and if my aunt had a package she’d be my uncle. C-bus is a long way from being scary good. They took two huge steps forward to make the playoffs this year, but like Nashville, I think C-bus will miss the playoffs next season.

Get a life.

Wyshynski says that the Boston Globe says that the Bruins are talking to Hossa. That would make more sense. And aren’t he and Chara friends?

They are both Slovaks, perhaps it’d be the same sort of thing as what Kopecky did for him here, give him someone to go out after games and share a Coke and a smile with.

HaHaHa. It keeps getting better with you guys.
I just like calling your Chief out on the whole, “we wings fans are so wonderful, we will cheer for Hossa no matter what and thank him for taking a discount to play for us for one year, and when he comes to town we will cheer for him, blah, blah, blah.”
Hopefully Hossa keeps the wings guessing for a little while longer, just in time for all the quality UFA’s to be signed up and then tell Holland his intentions to sign with Chicago. Would just be perfect.
Posted by Gretzky_to_Lemieux on 07/01/09 at 12:30 PM ET
Cap’n Dennis - thanks, but they probably would consider it. Because they’re idiots.

Why are you here? Do you have a purpose? You’re an idiot and everyone knows it. Chances are you waste all of your pathetic time here because your own “fans” can’t even stand you, you poor misguided little toad. Keep calling the Chief out if you, it only furthers the notion that in the social spectrum, you fall somewhere between a cockroach and the white stuff that accumulates at the side of your mouth when you’re really, really thirsty.

I couldn’t tell you. I blacked out like 15 minutes ago. I’m posting this from a remote location on MSU’s campus ... it’s a Matrix type of deal.

It’s no big deal if Hossa winds up in Chicago.
If he is consistently wearing knee braces that should slow him enough for Kronwall to line him up, real nice.
Problem solved.

@ Animal Drew and Red Winger - He’s here because he’s a font of misplaced rage. Name your cliche: mother held him too much or not enough, last picked at kickball, late night sneaky uncle, whatever. Now he’s so angry moments of levity actually cause him pain; gives him headaches. Happiness, for that gentleman, hurts.

Little ketchup with that schadeunfreude, honey? Don’t let the thought that perhaps you’re premature cross your pretty little mind. ‘Course, being premature is nothing new to you. But hey, keep trying even if you’re not managing to piss off the 99% of folks, including the entire Wings front office, who figured Hossa for a goner. Glad you’re amused, anyway.
Anyway, it’s happened. Don’t care where he goes as long as it means we’ll see Wally and hopefully Happy in Wings jerseys next year, and Gator in a Griffs one. And Lundqvist might be interesting, but depth is King. Depth and cap space—That’s a good thing.

we wings fans are so wonderful
Yes we are and so is our team. Two weeks after winning the Cup last season, did you see any of the 19 trolling at pen(i)sblog? Nope, because we had better things to do, like revel in winning the Stanley Cup.
Your team won the cup this season, yet you’re still here, likely because you know that the your franchise will never have the class, mystique, management and ownership to keep itself at the top of the NHL (no matter how they write the rule book) for over 20 years.
G2L you’re jealous and it shows.

I guess that ONE GAME Chicago won against the Wings in the playoffs was quite compelling.
Have fun, Hoss - I’m sure Kronner will.
