Here’s What We Do: Live Blogging A Day That Will Probably Be Uneventful For The Wings

And we can start with this biotch.

Not sure if Sportsnet is referring to last night’s rebuttal or if another has taken place this morning.  Kenny, you stubborn bastard you.

Marian Hossa has turned down yet another long-term deal to try his luck as a mercenary on the free agent market. The Red Wings were prepared to keep Hossa in Hockeytown for 10 years.

Anyway, it’s a Live Blog.  And we’ll even open it up to you Pens fans who want to take a break from peeking around the corner to see who’s going to steal your Cup.

I’m shuddering to think of the cap acrobatics necessary for the Hawks to sign Hossa and still be under the cap.  Especially if he gets the term he wants—they’d better hope they win it all this year, because next summer will be a big mamajamma bitch of a contract-fest and there will be fiduciary blood, especially if the cap goes down, which the general consensus is it will.  So there are big trades on the very near horizon, though I’m not sure there’ll be many takers for albatross.  Not even if they get wafers with it.

If Hossa to Chcago is true, it must be a massively front loaded contract…like $15 million this year, $3 million thereafter. Personally, I blame Scotty @#!%$ Bowman.

A Hossa to Chicago move has Scotty B’s fingerprints all over it.

If it’s true it will be interesting to see how the old codger managed it.

And here I had managed to convince myself he was past it.

You think Phil Jackson’s “X” ball cap bothered him that much?

Details are not finalized, but Bob McKenzie says it will be a cap hit of slightly more than $5 million per year.  Could be up to a 12-year deal.  Will have precise details soon.

Well if it is twelve years, obviously it is very front-loaded.

And, yes, Scotty Bowman has his fingers all over this. He knows the best way to beat the Wings is to pick them apart one by one. Soon, all you have left is a carcass.

First game next season that has Detroit vs. Chicago, I can’t wait to hear the Voice of Ken Daniels:

“Chicago starting with the Hossa line up front, Mike Babcock has Kronwall and Stuart to counter on defense.”  Oh sweet Jesus.  Is there an insurance company that has an annoying commercial with a duck that makes a “Hossa” sound?  Because the Havlat hit seemed too perfect.

Not to worry gang, don’t forget that Hossa, Kane, Taves, Kweef and Hobby-bulin are all coached by [aherm]...Joel Quennville.

I’m going to continue reading.  You all have a nice lunch break.

Interesting.  Well he did exactly what most of us expected at the start of the year.  No hard feelings from me and I would hope most other wings fans.  Good luck Hossa.

Playing the hawks just got more interesting though…

I’m remarkably unconcerned about what it means for the Wings’ success next year. I still respect Hossa for giving it a go in Detroit, even if I figured all along he wouldn’t be back. Too bad we couldn’t keep him, but in the long run, it’s probably for the best that Kenny won’t be saddled with Hossa’s cap hit.

Hossa to Chicago.
Man, never saw that coming.

Best wshes, Hoss. Thanks for your efforts.

Time to suck it up and move on.
The Detroit Red Wings are STILL the best professeional hockey organization, top to bottom. We will keep our heads held high as the task before us turns into a plan to succeed. And that plan is carefully, analytically, masterfully being developed by Tick Tock, Uncle Mike, ... you know the men we trust. Be assured they will place the best team possible on the ice for the ‘09-’10 season!
Is it October yet?

GO WINGS!!!

I enjoyed Hoss’s stay with us. Gained a lot of respect for the guy.

And, he did say he wanted to go to a Cup contender, and there is no way anyone can say the Hawks won’t be a contender for the next few years (a cap implosion notwithstanding).

Good luck, Hoss. Thanks for the effort.

It shouldn’t, assuming in the next little while the Hawks are going to dump some salary.

Obviously the contract is front loaded, but a 5.2 cap hit is still big. White, Campbell, Kane, Taves, Khabi, Havlat…good luck with all those contracts, Chicago. I see some nights of 16-17 skaters in their future, like Calgary did this season.

They also signed Bolland. Is it possible they trade one? Cap space reasons. Maybe Kane considering Toews was given the “C”.

They just shortened their bench in Chicago, didn’t they?  Dave Tallon already had some serious albatrosses in Huet, Khabibulin, and Campbell and NOW he’s going to take on Hossa’s cap hit of $5.1 million/year?  Gonna be messy when Toews and Kane are due for raises.

After next season.

Hawks have 12.7mil tied up in Campbell and Huet through the 2011-2012 season, plus Campbell for 12-13 at over 7 mil. I smell an offer sheet to Toews next year from tic tock…

For some reason, I jumped over to pensblog to see what they had to say, and i admit i actually chuckled…

Pierre McGuire says the Hossa deal “changes the balance of power in the Western Conference.”
Because, like Pittsburgh and Detroit have found out, adding Hossa to your team guarantees you a Stanley Cup.

I guess that signifies ive finally gotten over the loss. Additionally, good to see Chitown fans are sweating the 12 yrs majorly and waving goodbye to kane already. We have a home for him here.

Hell yes. Chicago looks like they have been somewhat smart today, but next year at this time it may look like pure greed.

I bet Rocky Wirtz and Co are dying to keep this wave of new interest in the Hawks going, and were willing to bet the farm on a Cup next year.

Interesting. Dangerous, but interesting.

Something tells me that coach Q will be gone at some point next season.
He has a good offensive scheme if the Hawks (or Avs, or Blues) get ahead and stay there.  But, if the team he coaches goes down a goal or two he starts the old “dump and chase, three forwards behind the goal-line” strategy and completely fails.  I don’t think that Wirtz will like that with the money being spent on the Hawks in the next few years.  He’s loading up on offense for a coach that’s more defensive.
As Wings fans, I’m sure you noticed this last year…

Indeed, when Toews and Kane are due for their re-ups, it’ll be interesting to see how Tallon will be able to keep them all.

They should re-name the Hawks, the Chicago Albatrosses.
