Home Again, Home Again

Back in Michigan for a week’s vacation...which is why I’ve avoided each of you for more than five days.  Consider this a brief interruption before I get back to remaining unshaven and 12 ounces heavier.

Two guys. Two “snipers”.  And a couple issues.

First.  Oompa Loompa’s playing hardball?  Is that what I’m to understand?  He’s calling press conferences and somebody’s (his agent no doubt) saying he’s KHL-boundGeorge, of course, is on it and will stay after it.

We dig you Happy.  You’ve become a favorite of the 19 and we’d like to see you make some money.

We would have also liked to see you score just once in your last twelve playoff games.  Because, write this down, a “sniper” who doesn’t “score” doesn’t get to be “strong-willed” or “stubborn”.

In other words, take the money Tick Tock offers you, be a Red Wing and do your job in the playoffs.  When you do, the payday you think you deserve might come.  Or it might not.  Maybe it never will and maybe your real reward is playing on the Best Team in Hockey and being a millionaire while you’re at it.

So, STFU about the KHL talk.

How about this?  See this?

“After a while, he didn’t want to be in the (AHL) and lost his enthusiasm for being there,” Holland said.

Tick Tock Kenny’s talking about Ville Leino and that quote rubs me wrong.  I’m wondering.  When Leino is on the third line, or even the fourth, and his minutes aren’t what he believes they should be because he’s got a little issue with backchecking, is he going to “lose his enthusiasm for being there”?

Mark this down.  Leino is going to spend the occasional evening hour in Uncle Mike’s doghouse.

As I told you, I’m vacationing back in Michigan and it’s awesome.  In St. Clair Shores until Thursday then it’s Up North for three days with five of my friends from high school.  My wife is promising me she’s going to be counting the amount of times she has to shake her head at me and say, “Bill....In. Appropriate.”

Oh, and I had a run-in with a Wing yesterday.  More to follow on that because it was funny and I want to do the story justice.

Almost forgot.  If you’re feeling “real lowdown today” (I’m back to quoting Seger because, bitches, I’m in Michigan)...consider this:  47 Tuesdays until the Cup comes home.

Shane, the Radulov situation was exactly the same-- he was an RFA (not headed to arbitration, but the same status) when he signed his contract with Salavat Ulaev.  Medvedev & co. got around it by saying the contract was signed two days before the ‘agreement’ was put in place, but it’s still the exact same situation.

Radulov was not a RFA.  He had 1 year left on a 3 year contract, which makes it far worse than Hudler’s move and thoroughly indefensible from a morality standpoint, but also legal from a “there’s no transfer agreement in place, we can do this” view-- if you buy that it was done five days before the agreement, as the KHL claims, but obviously that’s a pretty sketchy claim.

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter “c” would be dropped to be replased either by “k” or “s”, and likewise “x” would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which “c” would be retained would be the “ch” formation, which will be dealt with later. (First time poster, long time lurker)

So I was thinking about the signings the wings made so far; and how most of the team is swedish and whether that would attract more swedish players. Then my mind wandered over and thought.. “wow the swedish team is going to be awesome with Zatta and everyone from the wings basically”. Then I thought, wait Datsyuk is Russian, so their team would be good too. So then my mind wandered over to “hmm their line would be Datsyuk-Ovechkin-Malkin-Gonchar-Fedotenohsshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii”.

Just wanted to share that. Can’t wait for the olympics!

7 of those points came last season in 11 games...and he’s a right handed shot.  Only 25 years old.  Hmmmm could be some promise there.

...and younger.  I’m not saying he WILL be, I’m only saying he COULD be.  I don’t know if his style of play is anything like Charlie Buckets’, but he did have a 0.636 pts/game output last year (only 11 games).  But if he can transfer that into an 82 game season, that’s 52 points that we recover.  As a rare right-handed shot, he could see time with the 3rd line and those stats could be very attainable.

There is no need for Biron to play in exile in Russia,

So Biron may have to look for a job in Europe or the Kontinental League. Same with the other NHL proven UFA goalies Manny Fernandez, Manny Legace, Martin Gerber, Brent Johnson, Joey MacDonald, Curtis Sanford, Wade Dubielewicz and Kevin Weekes. That’s nine looking-for-work stoppers and a shrunken market.

I fear this past season has maybe given ozzie a bit of over-confidence in the “i can turn the switch on at any time” departement.  And if he has another regular season where he needs more mental vacations, well Howard is not going to be the guy to fill in.  I was hoping we would get Jonas Gustavsson, but since that’s past I think I have the answer.  Josh Harding.  he’s an RFA for minn currently and he made 725k last year.  I honestly think he will be a great great goalie in the future. call me crazy, but i mean top 4 or 5 in the league great someday.  we need to get him somehow....just please don’t bring back joey mac. hmm rhymes.

Blair Betts is still unsigned.  I don’t know what he’s looking to get paid -900K cap hit in previous contract, but that was inked before he was the PK leader for the Rangers- but he’d be a huge help for the PK.

I like the idea of a Dandenault signing too, if only because of the speed and tenacity a Dandenault-Helm-Cleary line would have.  The only problem is that line requires Homer and Leino playing top 6 minutes for the whole season which I’m not sure is realistic.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that makes me feel less alone in the universe.  When Ozzy had a bad season, and everyone, I mean EVERYONE, including you Chief, had your doubts about his upcoming play in the playoffs, I never did.  I tried my best to hope for Ozzy’s better side to show in the playoffs and thought it terrible that we get so down on him.  In other words, in the Great Ozzy Debate of 2009, I was FOR Ozzy the whole way.  Whether I said anything on this blog (I think I refrained from making any statement, actually) I never forgot about the 2 framed Ozzy posters I have in my room nor did I forget the miraculous saves he makes even in a losing effort.  I knew he’d come up big.  I believe in him always.  And to support AndrewFromAnnArborWithAsManyPassportsAsWeHaveStanleyCups, I believe in Holland’s decisions to back up Ozzy as well.  Even though he is shaky at best in his starts thus far, Howard can still turn it around.

It’s the Detroit way.  Not everyone is a Nick Lidstrom or Stevie Y or Pavel Datsyuk, some players need development at our level.  Just like Ozzy did.  And many others.  So even if he loses his first two or three games, I’ll be focusing only on the positives for this kid.  If somebody said “he’s terrible, he’s the next Chris Osgood” I’d be happy as a little girl!

So how ‘bout this Tallon geting the can in favor of Stan Bowman?

Is anyone else salivating about the prospect of watching the Hawks implode? It’s like they had a bomb with a lit fuze at a decent length. Long enough to give them some time to do something before the bomb went off - heck, maybe even defuse the whole situation. Then Scotty came in with a pair of scissors, cut the fuse down and lit it again with his cigar.

Interesting loyalty to show a guy who’s made some huge mistakes but really turned that garbage team around. I’m sure staring down the barrel of Brian Campbell and Cristobal Huet’s contracts is unnerving, but to up and fire the guy AFTER the draft and AFTER the free agent frenzy… Over what? Failing to mail the RFA offer sheets on time, which turned out to not be an actual problem. That’s just priceless.

Reigns are in Stan’s unproven hands now. Now he’s got to find a way to sign Toews and Kane with candyland money. Hopefully daddy can help him. Even for the Blackhawks, Scotty is still working wonders for our organ-i-zation.

...is it October yet?

Tallon had to go after the qualifying offer debacle.  However, I think his fate was sealed before then.  I’m wondering how Chicago’s late playoff run affected things.  Do you think that the end of their run came too late to fire him before the draft and free agency?  You can’t really fire your GM during the playoffs as that’s a huge distraction.  Think he might have gotten canned before all of this if they had lost in the first round to Calgary?

I think this move was in the works all along....
The old man has not been gone all that long, and the pace of the New Blackhawks since has been amazing.  It is a case of delayed action because too many changes, too fast can derail your progress.  Nobody with a lick of sense dumps a GM just before the draft.  Of course some of the delay may have had to do with the question of Stan’s health.

Thanks Chicago, for keeping my summer somewhat interesting.....

This move was in the cards after Dollar Bill’s death-- a clearout of the old guard.  The only question was how long success would delay the inevitable, and there’s the answer.  Now there really is nobody in the Hawks’ front office tied to the old man, aside from his son...who as we’ve all seen is not his father’s son.

That being said, this has Scotty’s “The Prince School of Management” fingerprints all over it.  The man’s a genius, no two ways about it, but if I were close to him I wouldn’t trust him with a burnt-out match.

The King is dead.  Long live The King.

His new role as Senior Advisor, Hockey Operations now consists of Scotty leaning over and saying “Don’t speak until you’re spoken to.” At the beginning of all manager meetings.  Aw crap, did I just make another assumption?
