Back in Michigan for a week’s vacation...which is why I’ve avoided each of you for more than five days. Consider this a brief interruption before I get back to remaining unshaven and 12 ounces heavier.
Two guys. Two “snipers”. And a couple issues.
First. Oompa Loompa’s playing hardball? Is that what I’m to understand? He’s calling press conferences and somebody’s (his agent no doubt) saying he’s KHL-bound. George, of course, is on it and will stay after it.
We dig you Happy. You’ve become a favorite of the 19 and we’d like to see you make some money.
We would have also liked to see you score just once in your last twelve playoff games. Because, write this down, a “sniper” who doesn’t “score” doesn’t get to be “strong-willed” or “stubborn”.
In other words, take the money Tick Tock offers you, be a Red Wing and do your job in the playoffs. When you do, the payday you think you deserve might come. Or it might not. Maybe it never will and maybe your real reward is playing on the Best Team in Hockey and being a millionaire while you’re at it.
So, STFU about the KHL talk.
How about this? See this?
“After a while, he didn’t want to be in the (AHL) and lost his enthusiasm for being there,” Holland said.
Tick Tock Kenny’s talking about Ville Leino and that quote rubs me wrong. I’m wondering. When Leino is on the third line, or even the fourth, and his minutes aren’t what he believes they should be because he’s got a little issue with backchecking, is he going to “lose his enthusiasm for being there”?
Mark this down. Leino is going to spend the occasional evening hour in Uncle Mike’s doghouse.
As I told you, I’m vacationing back in Michigan and it’s awesome. In St. Clair Shores until Thursday then it’s Up North for three days with five of my friends from high school. My wife is promising me she’s going to be counting the amount of times she has to shake her head at me and say, “Bill....In. Appropriate.”
Oh, and I had a run-in with a Wing yesterday. More to follow on that because it was funny and I want to do the story justice.
Almost forgot. If you’re feeling “real lowdown today” (I’m back to quoting Seger because, bitches, I’m in Michigan)...consider this: 47 Tuesdays until the Cup comes home.

Hmm… so he was injured during the playoffs? Your thoughts?
Posted by jennyquarx on 07/21/09 at 11:50 PM ET
Hossa also suffers for Joe Thornton Syndrom. The major symptom is an absence of playoff heart.
So his shoulder was hurt… what about his legs? Hossa did not display the wheels he did in the regular season to work his way around hard checking D-men. Just like Joe coasted this postseason, so did Hossa.

Wow Paul, that’s impressive.
You guys can talk all day long about how it’s not bothering you but it’s evident by the way you are all trying to defend what happened that it was indeed, the worst loss in Wings history.
Losing in 08 just makes it that much sweeter. Especially when you add the Hossa drama to it.
Sorry fellas, I don’t buy it.
You can show me all the stats in the world. One difference ...... ours is NEWER and more HISTORIC.
Have a good day everyone.

Oh and PaulinMiamuh, hate to be of bother once again, but I think we’ve retired a few jersey numbers as well, perhaps sufficiently referenced in your earlier pic, but if not:
1 Terry Sawchuk G
7 Ted Lindsay LW
9 Gordie Howe RW
10 Alex Delvecchio C
12 Sid Abel LW
19 Steve Yzerman C
Let us not forget the unspoken number in the rafters, that of #16.
And thanks for the kind words, Sully. You keep reading, and we’ll keep writing.

Are we trying to defend what happened? Where did we say that? Ass…
Also, worst loss in Wings history was probably after 40 years without the Cup to be ousted so easily by New Jersey. I thought we were cursed, and that despite our best team and our best efforts, we just weren’t good enough. 40 Years for that City. Those fans! It was so painful. I really didn’t think we could get better than the 1994-95 team so I was crushed.
Comparing the continuation of the 40 year drought to not repeating...really incomparable. Sorry dude, but your statement has NO validity whatsoever. Try again sometime.

Here’s a morsel for the troll. There is no such thing as “more historic”. Those are empty words.
Now.. jeebus guys, Jimmy is the worst attention-whore troll we have here. Even Puckhead from New Jersey is smarter than he is. It’s funny because you can actually tell that it hurts him when you ignore what he says. How about we get a start on that?

Well will at least see the wings play two games against St Louis in Stockholm this year.

Well, tought I’d chime in after the long layoff I’ve had. Because you know, I’m a Detroit fan who is employed, which is apparently an oxymoron to Pricks fans. *#$%@& douchebags.
Dandenault and Grier. Grab them Kenny.
And for the Hudler debacle, I gotta admit, i just want him to go know. I have a feeling that even if Happy signs a new deal, Tick Tock is prolly gonna just suspend him so he can go play in the KHL, and have his cap hit lifted. Because why would Tick Tock want to keep a guy on the roster who doesn’t want to be here? so yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Hudler signs just so we retain his rights, but then he just goes on suspension and plays for Dynamo.
Hossa is still a bitch, no matter what injury he has. The Perfect Human almost lost a testicle. Sorry Hoss, but your supposed shoulder injury is peanuts (pun not intended) compared to that.
Leino scores 60 points this year. You heard it here first. And Wally tops 70 with his increased TOI and his bigger offensive role. And, Taz scores 20.

Goals or points? I think 20 g-notes might be a stretch (though I would LOVE to see it) and 20 points is Kopecky-country so I’d imagine he can do better.
My concern with Helm is that the little guy doesn’t get himself hurt flying around out there for an entire season. He may need to take a lesson from Z and Dangles as to what “save it for the play-offs” means.

Ericsson indicated that Helm didn’t fly around like that in GR. He’s got a lot more to his game than the flying around part we all adore. I think we’ll all be pleasantly surprised by the kid on some fronts and disappointed on others (because we probably expect too much by now).
I’d expect about 15 goals, 40 points, from him. Leino… probably 45-ish due to more PP time.
Filppula, Cleary, and Zetterberg are where we’re going to see the big point increases, imo. I expect Z to be back up in the 85+ club.
Oh, and I imagine we’ll see 45+ from Franzen this year. He or Zetterberg will be playing with Datsyuk, and we all know Uncle Mike likes to destroy our hopes of a Flying Circus reunion.

Depends on how badly he wants to win. Period. I say ‘no’. I don’t think Sundin is even on Kenny’s radar. Hopefully, with all of this news reporting Holland knows full well that Hudler doesn’t want to come back, he’s been out there talking to people.

Interesting to hear about the Hossa injury. I’m pretty sure one of the talking points coming out of CHI was that he’d be much more durable than Havlat. That issue may be a wash now, and it’s hilarious to think that CHI could lose their shiny new toy until December.
I also say ship Hudler out and put feelers out to Grier, Dandy, and Feds. I think we could land 2 of 3 without too much trouble.
Also glad to see the Wings getting younger and bigger at certain positions. That has needed to happen for a while, and it is going to pay off hugely come playoff time.
Posted by thethirdcoast from Rottenchester on 07/24/09 at 07:09 PM ET
Right. Wings also could some of those already slick-skating young defensemen to The Factory in Stockholm to be even stronger stickhandling while skating at high-speed and without losing any of their hockey senses, which is what Hakan Andersson seems to be leaning towards this past draft.

who’s feds......fedotenko re-signed in pitt and fedorov signed with magnitogorsk....am i missing another feds?
I like signing Dandenault, but instead of signing Mike Grier, i think we should get Michael Peca.....Imo he’s better and would fit into our system better...just sayin
Posted by Itrusteddrrahmani from Ann Arbor on 07/24/09 at 11:10 PM ET
I think Peca in his prime was better than Mike Grier in the best years of his career, but nowadays he’s broken down and as a result, I think Grier is currently a better player.
What I see in Grier that I don’t see in Peca (and I could just very well be completely wrong here) is the Dallas Drake-like tenacity. In his season with us, you knew that Drake would sooner gnaw his own hand off than accept losing a game. From my admittedly spotty memory, what I can recall from watching games involving the two players in question is associating Michael Peca with having made many of the simple, safe plays required in the defensive zone while I remember Grier mostly for bringing energy and a willingness to muck it up wherever he is on the ice (especially the front of the net).
So yeah, I could see how he probably would be a better fit into our system and that he is a more cerebral player than Grier, but for the third or fourth line grinder that we need, I’d rather have a balls-out wrecking ball out there.
Bottom line is that I would prefer Grier, but I wouldn’t curse Kenny’s name if he brought Peca into the fold instead. I just wish we didn’t have to keep waiting for news of signings that may never happen.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 07/24/09 at 11:46 PM ET
I sort of wanted Peca to be brought aboard the last time he was a free agent, after his tour of duty in Edmonton maybe? Anywho, I’d rather have the bigger badder version of a grinder as JJ puts it… a wrecking ball & the energy that style player provides for the team to feed off. Peca is very responsible defensively and all, but he’s not going to get the guys on the bench on their feet flattening someone.

Why are you all so excited to see a has-been Red Wings reunion? Dandenault had stone hands and couldn’t match the system. Shanahan? Please...old and busted and really doesn’t fit the current system.
I like the Grier option for sure, Peca is toast.
Sundin would be a reach and a Hossa round 2 at best....with less ability. I would love to be inside Jim Nil’s head right now...I’d love to see what he sees.
Happy summer...try the Canadien bass this year if you get a chance. They’re practically jumpin’ in the boat and they’re major yummo to boot.

Why are you all so excited to see a has-been Red Wings reunion?
Personally, i’m just scared of signing a free agent bust that has never been in our org before. A guy like Bertuzzi or Hatcher. and I fear that’s what grier might be like. No matter how bad a statistical year a guy is having, if he’s a true leader he can always rely on that. Shanny can be a leader, Dandenault can be a great role model for Ericsson and Meech and they both know how to be Wings.
Grier and/or Peca could be good, or they could both be busts. Last year they were very statistically similar: Peca: 4g/18a/22pts, Grier: 10g/13a/23pts. Peca played in 9 more games but was (imo) on a less talented team so we’ll call it a wash. So given the chance for them to be statistical busts for this coming year, i would look to their roles off the ice. And i think Peca is a much more proven leader. In a year where we’re talking about giving alot of the GR guys a chance i feel we need as many veteran leaders as possible. Not to mention Peca did make 400k less last year than grier, and that kind of money could make a big difference when dealing with call-ups.

Possibly. I know that Joel Lundqvist’s contract with an Elitserien team included a clause that let him opt out penalty-free to play in North America should a team offer him cause to do so.
