Hossa…Holland Working It?

Pierre LeBrun didn’t exactly say as much, but there are hints in his chat today at ESPN...
Ron, Pittsburgh: Zetterberg, Franzen, Hossa. I’ve read that Holland doesn’t view Hossa as the rental he once did, which makes a lot of sense to me. However, I don’t see any way that the Wings can keep Hossa and Zetterberg, even without Franzen in the mix. With their cap situation, I see either Zetterberg/Hossa and Franzen, and I’ll eat my foot if they let Zetterberg go.
SportsNation Pierre LeBrun: (4:55 PM ET ) Ron I can tell you from my talks with Holland that you’re right, he wants to try and keep all three. But it will be tough. Zetterberg is priority No. 1 and they’ve been exchanging coutner-proposals. Should hopefully get done over the next few weeks. Hossa they can’t talk to until January because he signed a one-year deal last summer. They’re talking to Franzen right now. It’ll be tough but one thing Holland can do is trade a few bodies next summer to make room for Hossa.

“A few bodies” being one of the great understatements of the year. It’s going to take some fairly significant trades to make this happen, significant from Wings fans’ perspective, at least…

Other than going for Cup #12, this is probably the most intriguing storyline for the Wings.

. . .maybe that’s a pipe dream
Pipe Dream, maybe it is; but who doesn’t enjoy a hookah dream every now and again??
If there is a deal to be made that keeps Mule, Zetterberg (nickname desparately needed) and Hoss (not to mention William Tell, Kopecky and Happy [RFA]); “Tick Tock” is the man to do it.
The ceiling for Wings forwards and long-term contract is set by Datsyuk at 6.7 (through 2013);
Hoss makes 7.45 for this year, and to take the press at face value, he could make a greater yearly salary, for a long term;
But if you assume 6.7 is the number, then Hank is due a yearly raise of 3.8;
Hoss a cut of 750;
Mule has got to be worth at least 4, maybe 5, so he needs a raise of 2.85 +;
William Tell—I say trade the bastard, but he does put up 20 goals, trade and save only 1.2??
Happy, probably has the one of the best pts/minute in the league, he surely deserves Fil money; 2.5 - 3. so that is a raise of at least 1.1.
Looking at salary going up by 9 if your lucky.
All the D is signed for next year except Cheli at 750.
Cut William Tell and call up Helm at the minimum. you still need to find 7 million at the current cap of 56.
Worse, I know I’ve read that there is some talk that the 2010 cap may go down!!
“Tick Tock” better be a real frigging genious, and I think he is, but then again I hit the hookah for Thanksgiving.

Hookahs and pipes.
I’ll toast the 19 with a Fuente Opus X.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I’d not wanna sit at the same poker table as one Tick Tock Holland, I can tell you that.

Hell, I heard the casinos in Detroit roll up the coin trays and shut down the Mini Baccarat on the Craps tables every time he’s in there.
The gutsiest casino in Las Vegas, The Horseshoe, won’t even let him anywhere near ten feet of their joint.

...one thing Holland can do is trade a few bodies next summer to make room for Hossa.
The only body Kenny could trade that would make a difference is Rafalski. Eliminate his $6M and you might be able to make it work if both Hank and Hossa take Datsyuk money and Mule settles for a two-year deal at $4M. But the odds of any of that happening are just about zero.

And that will never happen since Rafalski has a NTC and there’s nothing Holland could or would say that would get him to do it.
The other thing about that is Holland is not going to sacrifice defense for forwards. As much as we all love Hossa and we all do, he’s a luxury where Rafalski is a necessity.

It’s not a pipe dream dammit!!
Hossa pulls a Kariya, Z goes Pav and the Mule gets a modest raise.
Ok, maybe that’s a pipe dream. But in Kenny I trust. Somehow he’s gonna do it. I don’t know how, but the man is a friggin genius, and i won’t argue with genius.
