Hurry Back Mac, Now Sit…And Wing Games “Suck”

Too bad Darren McCarty didn’t see fit to skip a practice, like one of his peers from “the Association.” Nice character pickup there Joe.
If Mac had opted out of today’s morning skate, he might be in there tonite…instead of nursing a groin injury from the press box.
“I’ve been treating it all year,” McCarty said. “I just stopped the wrong way, felt a sharp pain. I don’t think it’s anything super serious.”
Dave Dye says it’s the same injury that kept McCarty out of the Wing lineup the first two weeks of the season. Bruce MacLeod had posted earlier that Mac was leading stretches prior to the re-aggravation, and noted Dan Cleary’s return to the lineup tonite…probably on the third line with Oompa Loompa and Wally.
“(I’ll) just play a normal game,” said Cleary, who skated with Chris Chelios on Thanksgiving. “I’m not out there to dangle and try to beat everybody. It’s a simple game. ... It feels like a lot longer than two and a half weeks.”
Normal game or not, I know at least one Wing “fan” who won’t be there. Joe Hass apparently writes for Winging it in Motown along with Christy Hammond. Unlike Christy, Joe has an issue with games at the Joe.
And allow me to be as polite and kind as possible as I say this, and know that I mean no disrespect.
Red Wings games suck.
Joe lists himself as a Wing fan in his bio, but by his own admission doesn’t remember the last time he paid for a ticket to a Wing game in Detroit. I’m a Wing fan, and every game I’ve attended in the last five years—in the Joe or not, Cup Final game or not, win or lose—I’ve paid for, and I’d do it again.
Joe has some issues with everything from intermission entertainment, the knowledge of the fans, the inability to move rapidly through the Joe concourse—all when compared with the fairly new arena in Boston.
And his conclusion, remember, is that “Red Wing games suck.” Well, that’s unfortunate Joe.
My suggestion would be, I guess—and no disrespect is intended—is to stay the hell out of the Joe and keep your ass in Boston where it appears to belong.
I’m not kidding. I have no use for a Wing blogger who doesn’t pay for tickets when he does go to a Wing game, then claims the treatment and the experience aren’t up to his standards.
Oh, and Joe…listing “Mike Milbury” as a reason the games in Boston are better than they are in Detroit doesn’t earn you much credibility with Wing fans. Milbury’s a tool.
While Joe’s blasting JLA, he’s also spending equal time complimenting the arena in Boston and the Bruin management. Ok. Got it. I’ve been to probably ten NHL arenas the last ten years and each place has had its own special appeal. Each arena was newer then the Joe, few had the sticky floors and the distinct aroma.
But none of them had between fifteen and nineteen thousand Wing fans. See Joe? That’s the difference. That’s why Wing games don’t “suck” no matter the special treatment you feel you deserve that you don’t receive with your comp’d tickets. Wing games don’t suck because you’re surrounded by other Wing fans who don’t care about the rest of it.
Oh, and one more thing. If you’re a Wing fan, a Michigan hockey fan, how can you be a Cub fan instead of a Tiger fan? Not sure I get that. And jeez, I wonder…wouldn’t Comerica be a better, more modern, more comfortable park to watch a game than Wrigley?
Or do Cubs games “suck” too?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
