I Tried The High Road Again.  Crazy, But It Still Sucks.

I’ve decided I’m not going to complain about the officiating for the rest of this series.

But Saturday night, after it’s over…maybe Sunday morning?  We’re going to have a little chat, you and I, a little confab to discuss just how pathetic this has been.

We’re going to talk about a Pittsburgh player skating right by Dennis LaRue while he’s pretending not to count, and we’re going to discuss a blatant two hander to Johan Franzen’s head, and Hal Gill.  But we’re going to wait until Sunday so we don’t have to hear the….you know what? Screw it.  Let’s talk about it now.

I don’t give a flying fu** what the reaction to this statement is going to be.  I don’t care that Pens fans are going to copy, paste and comment here and anywhere else when I say this, or that any other group of Wing haters will use it as an example of our “elitist” views and our feelings that we’re “owed something.”

Ready for it?  Good.

The Detroit Red Wings are going to win this motherfu**er and they’re going to do it despite a blatant league agenda to arrange circumstances that would hand the Cup to Sidney Crosby and Pittsburgh.

Game 3 is the most glaring example we’ve seen of it.  You’ve seen the images, but I’ll show you again.  Look at Dennis LaRue. He’s staring right at Eaton as he skates off.  Staring right at him.

image

Caps fan put that up over on the empire main page.

You may have heard the rumblings by now, that one of the linesman actually said something to a Pens player.  Something to the effect of, “you’ve got too many”, instead of blowing his whistle.

Apparently, Wing players heard it.  If that’s the case?  Stand by.  Because this whole “conspiracy theory” is going to blow up.  If the Wing organ-I-zation goes public with this, that an official actually warned a Pittsburgh player of an infraction rather than call it?  Yep.  Stand by.

It is a Blatant. League. Agenda.  How does Johan Franzen get crosschecked, in the head, in front of a referee and it doesn’t get called?  How does Jonathon Ericsson get whistled for the most candy-ass interference call of the series, but Hal Gill is allowed to hold up every single Wing player crossing into Pittsburgh’s zone chasing a dump in?

There is nothing more frustrating than this.  Nothing.  No feeling in the world is quite so useless than watching what’s happening and not being able to do a frigging thing.  Has there been a statement from the league about the too many men thing?  Have they acknowledged it at all?  I haven’t seen it.  If not, why?

And what of Kunitz’ hit?  We’re just completely ignoring hits to the head now?  Any statement on that?  No?  Tell me, if that had been Kronwall crosschecking Gary’s Baby Boy in the head would that have at least warranted a penalty, if not a suspension?  Oh, and what the hell…how about Malkin and Zetterberg, while we’re at it. Forget the instigator rule, the “rescinded suspension”.  How about the fact that before he started tossing his weak ass lefts and rights Malkin used his stick to attack Zetterberg?  Let’s just overlook that, eh Gary?  God, Bettman, you’re a frigging joke.

It’s an agenda.  Is the “fix in”?  I swear to god I wish I could type that.  But I can’t. I can’t because it’s too hard to believe.  But something’s rotten.  And it’s not just poor officiating.  Nobody can be this bad, this consistently, not when they’re supposed to be the best at what they do.

And here’s one more thing.  The Wings are gonna win this and they’ll do it to spite the league.  There is no doubt in their mind, just like there is no doubt in ours, that whispered directives have resulted in some horrendous “mistakes”, and they’re going to win so that all summer they can share a chuckle that the league tried to do bad things when the lights went down on the cell block, only to find that the skinny guy in red wasn’t going to resist so easily.

I tried to hold off on this.  I did.  For 24 hours I was a good boy and tried to stay “above it all.”  But I don’t have it in me and all I can do is hope the Wings are as furious as the rest of us.  Gary Bettman’s trying to take the block of cheddar they’ve earned and hand it to someone who doesn’t deserve it.  Do the Wings understand that?  Can they rally around that?

Yes.  This bitch is done on Saturday.  In Detroit.  In Hockeytown.

This thing is finished like it should have been last year.  In 5 games.

Stanley skates on Saturday motherfu**ers.

2 to 12 and suck on it Gary.  Looking forward to seeing you waddle on the ice to the chorus of 20,000 boos you little pisspot.

that missed call is the exact reason why your PK sucks.

You are an idiot.

You’re also bad at trolling.

I love how Wings fans always find a reason to complain.

And yet, when things don’t go your way, there’s absolutely no complaints from your ilk. Is that right? Well, I suppose when your captain is whining to the officials every five minutes, it makes it pretty difficult to discern between a legitimate complaint and just some child pissing and moaning to daddy’s zebra-colored henchmen.

i guess babcock has to pick and choose.  malkin is doing his job right now.  if all crosby can do is eat up all of zetterbergs time to free up geno, then whatever.  its opened some space up for him.

and what happens tonight when we get last year’s Selke winner back on the ice to join Selke B?  with Crosby and Malkin covered, who does that leave for the Penguins?  how have their third and fourth lines fared against the Wings’?

I just hope that none of the Penguins fans that were wailing all day Monday about how the Red Wings no-skill style of interference play that’s bringing back pre-lockout hockey of the early 90s when stars were stifled by hooking and holding has the audacity to be happy with the way the Penguins played game three.

I mean, I’m ok with the way the Penguins played, they started actually creating some of those picks that the refs can’t call.  But then again, I never wailed about how those are ruining hockey.

Also, if you think that ignoring a too-man-men is ok because you think it somehow evens up a perceived non-call on Zetterberg in a previous game, please don’t have children. I don’t want a generation of children coming out of Pittsburgh who think that two wrongs make a right.

Here, in THIS WORLD, I’ve never heard a more hypocritical fan base. For the most part, Wings fans have recognized that missed calls don’t lose games. Typical pens fan. You know nothing about hockey. The original 6 does not refer to the 6 orginizations that made up the entire league at its birth. Rather, its the 6 that have survived into the modern era. There were plenty of *#$%@& teams, and yes, those cups mean just as much as the one Captain Norris will hoist in the direction of the plethora of banners on Saturday. *#$%@& you. *#$%@& your “insight”. *#$%@& your team. Nice, Chief. Everything I would have said to my family last night if I hadn’t been so angry that much of what I said was swearing with a few family friendly words thrown in. F*ck the refs and the league. I want Dats back tonight and covering Malkin like white on rice. I want Kronwall and Stuart hitting their forwards into next week. I want Hossa to get his game 4 on and shut up those whiny bitches in Pittsburgh. I want Detroit to win the next two convincingly and overwhelm the flightless birds. 2 to 12, bitches. Show no mercy, give no quarter.

HOW ABOUT THE NON CALL ON THE HOSSA HOOK WHICH LED TO THE FILLIPULA GOAL MORON

As far as Hossa is concerned, it all comes down to tonight. If he can be the offensive force he is supposed to be, if he can turn that little black disk into a ball gag that fits into 20,000 screaming mouths—or repeatedly set up someone who can—then, in my opinion, it’s worth considering (no, it wouldn’t be automatic) another contract for him. If not, if he comes away with a cheap secondary assist and little else, then it ceases to even be a question.

First of refs miss calls every game.

21 seconds of the pens having 6 players on the ice definitely should’ve been called I have no idea how no one saw it.
But if Detroit fans really want to complain about that missed call, then let me complain about these:
1) Zetterberg covering the puck in the crease in game 1 and no penalty shot being called
2) Blatant interference against malkin leading to the wings first goal in game 2
3) A hook by Hossa against Dupuis in game 2 that led directly to the wings 2nd goal
4)  Zetterberg covering the puck in the crease and no penalty shot being called yet again

Wing fans have NOTHING to complain about

The best one was when Ericcson got called for interference in the 3rd the idiot melrose said it was a penalty but it shouldn’t have been called?  WTF, when did the rule book quit becoming the rule book.

there was no hook, moron.  Hossa lifted the Penguin’s stick.  that is perfectly legal, and something that happens many times a night.  stick on stick play is legal unless you break the opponent’s stick.  and no, Hossa didn’t break his stick.  the stick broke when the Penguin spun around and whacked it off of Hossa’s skate.

go watch some replays.  Google to your heart’s content.  you will see it.  and probably disappear, like the mealy little worm you are.

In my opinion, the interference call to Ericsson was the right call. The pens player dumped it in and a second and a half passes by before Ericsson engages. The Pens, much like the Ducks, are great at make that play in the right time window to not get a penalty. The Wings apparently suck at it.

The Too Many Men on the Ice non-call was pathetic though. The Commentors went on and on about how the hockey gods smiled on them and it was a lucky break. Actually, guys, its called incompetence. Hockey Gods are for Detroit. Referees are for Pittsburgh.

Posted by Brew from Detroit on 06/04/09 at 09:22 AM ET

moocat's avatar

Ericsson definitely interfered with the Pen on the play and it was the “correct” call, however the problem is that the referees had let that exact call go all game.

The NHL opens itself up to this kind of scrutiny not because of the call, but the situation surrounding the call. Interference let go all game only to suddenly be called at the 10 minuted mark of the third period of game three with one team owning a two game advantage.

That smacks of manipulation. Sure the Wings could have killed the penalty and that is certainly on them but the fact the Pens were given that opportunity is suspect, especially since there was no other penalties called for the rest of the game. Nobody else interfered, or did anything illegal for the rest of the game?

It’s not a “fix” but I could certainly be convinced that the refs were told that if the game was tied or close call something around the mid point of the third.

Lastly if it turns out to be true that an official warned a Pen instead of calling the penalty then any shred of credibility the officials have/had is now gone, and that official shouldn’t work another NHL game.

So the two times Zetterberg illegally covered the puck doesn’t count?  Adams getting picked right off the faceoff?  Staal’s jersey being held?  Staal and Guerrin both getting high sticked (both were 4 minute penalites)?  The interference right off the faceoff during game 1 that led to a goal?  Jokestrom tackling someone during game 1?  Osgood diving (AGAIN)?  And the officiating is biased?  I though Wings fans were smarter than that.  Guess not.

Going back to the Zetterberg covering up the puck in the paint deal (twice).  My interpertation is that one situation was fine, the other should have resulted in a penalty (actually I think it is a penalty shot).

The second time was fine.  The puck was on its way in and Zetterberg dove and covered the puck with his body.  No problem there.

The first time was the problem call.  The puck was sitting on top of Osgood’s back, clearly not controlled.  Zetterberg comes and puts his hand over the puck.  This is clearly a no-no.  I don’t think the ref realized where the puck was at all so it doesn’t get called.

None of this is to insinuate the the Pens got ripped off.  It is just to demonstrate that calls are missed, mistakes are made and it happens to both sides.  6 men should have been called, no dobut about it, but it is not like these things never happen or that it doesn’t sometimes benefit your team as well.

So we can have six players on the ice as long as they are all defensemen?  Awesome!

Immediate request for a rule change:  Any forward defensively aware enough to be nominated for a Selke now counts as a defensemen for the purposes of this series.

Detroit is now allowed to have six players on the ice at any time, as long as all six are chosen from:

Lidstrom
Rafalski
Kronwall
Stuart
Lebda
Ericsson
Meech
Zetterberg
Datsyuk
Draper

I can deal with that.  smile

As a hockey fan that has no rooting interest in the finals, I have to say that officiating has been poor in the finals compared to the first 3 rounds.  Detroit does to the “subtle interference” as Edzo pointed out in the game broadcast.  Zetterberg seems to have covered the puck in the crease twice (game 1 and 2).  Detroit scored in game 2 on the Hossa play where he hooked, then broke the stick of Dupuis.  The goal from the point, Zetterberg interfered with Malkin as he was trying to get to the point.  On the other side, Hal Gill does seem to just “get in the way” quite a bit (more subtle interference).  The non call on he too many men…  The only thing I can see is that the too many men didn’t lead to a goal, but in game 2, Detroit’s 2 non-calls lead directly to the scoring of a goal.  Also, Babcock seems to do a lot of complaining to the media.  I haven’t heard coach Bylsma make one complaint yet.  So far, I’m hoping the Pens win just because of the way they’ve handled this in the media. Anytime the coaches, fans, etc. start complaining about the refs, they look like a bunch of whiners.  Isn’t that what everyone accuses Crosby of being.

So let me get this straight…the Pens have 6 guys on the ice and don’t score and don’t get called on it.

The Wings cover the puck in the crease in game one and it doesn’t get called either.

In game two Hossa hooks Dupuis and deters him from icing the puck on the PK.  Result? Detroit goal…winning goal.

Shut the hell up about the too many men thing. Yes it was obvious and they missed it, much the same as they missed the obvious hand on the puck in the crease in game one and Hossa’s hook in game two.

And if you think Gill interferes, please watch your own team and watch the subtle interference they run throughout the game.

I’m a Pens fan and I’m not whining and crying over missed calls like the Wings are, and we’re down 2-1!!  Hossa hooked Dupuis, Wings scored…I move on, I don’t keep whining, and it cost us the friggin game!!  You’re still whining about a too many men call that went uncalled….yet the Pens didn’t score like the Wings did on their hook.

And who knows what could have happened if the refs didn’t “miss” Zetterberg covering the puck.  But yet, I’ve moved on from that too…..much the same as you should give up the too many men call.  There’s been blatently missed calls BOTH ways this series.

You don’t hear Bylsma crying in his press conferences after the losses over missed calls, yet one loss and Babcock is crying over not getting a PP on the third period.  Hey Mike, try having a missed call where the other team actually scores the game winning goal, or try having a missed call where you could have received a penalty shot which could have totally changed the game.  I couldn’t imagine the tears Babcock would have!

Yet Bylsma keeps his mouth shut and goes about his business, blaming no one but himself or his team for the losses….not the refs.

Wow it really is hilarious listening to this wings fan complain about officiating when the pens have gotten the worst of it both years. Obviously your not watching the same series…..

Lets first talk about the constant obstruction that Terrian complained about last year, just ask any other fan but a wings fan and they will tell you how much they are holding and interfering almost every play but nothing is ever called, what a joke.

Now lets talk about the currernt series officiating…yea the pens have gotten away with a few here or there but its still not even close. I cant count how many times i saw jordan staal get high sticked and elbowed in the first 2 games just unbelievable to say the least. They even pointed out the one night he was pushed down when he was no one close to the puck behind the net but no interfernce i guess…

Cant forget about the obvious covering’s of the puck by zetterberg in the crease in back to back games without a penalty shot when its the rule and thats pretty hard to miss. But i guess now he can just dive in the paint and cover up loose pucks haha joke.

And some of you want to sit there and actually say you have been screwed with calls you have to be kidding me. The 6 man penalty was bad theres no doubting that but actually saying that now there is a conspiracy with bettman trying to get crosby a win now thats just the dumbest statement ive ever heard.

what about hossa’s obvious hook in game 2 that lead directly to a goal??

some of you wings fans are in denial and your lucky to be up 2-1 because you were outplayed in games 1 and 2

Also funny reading the wings comments on here saying Zetterberg did NOTHING to warrant a penalty shot? How didnt he? Because the rule stated no player can cover the puck in the crease so how was that different from what he did?

Stop complaining about Gill’s interfernce hes just learning from what the wings have been doing all series long and figures if they get away with it i might as well do the same thing.

How was dupuis not hooked? I agree it wasnt a slash but Hossa wrapped his arm around dupuis and put it inside his body thats always called a hook and somehow it wasnt there.

It wasn’t a hook.
It wasn’t a slash.

Get your facts straight.

Watch the videos.
Hossa’s stick was under - lifting - Dupuis’s stick; Dupuis wasn’t hooked.
Dupuis’s stick broke when it was under Hossa’s stick and it (Dupius’s stick) hit Hossa’s skate; he wasn’t slashed.
Watch the videos.

trolls ...

stonehands - Don’t bother with the trolls. They don’t understand that the onus is on them to prove the bullsh*t that they spew. I look forward to this summer when the trolls have returned to their caves AKA their parents’ basements.
