Implosion Imminent?

Updated 1508 with very little that’s new or exciting. I just have this to say: I’m going to remember every one of you disloyal bastards who are predicting first-round exits for this team. You ungrateful, sons of…oh. Nevermind. I started it. Back to where you were.
——
Mike Mouat, a Detroit Red Wings Examiner, doesn’t say quite as much. But he comes pretty close.
And finally, goaltending, coach Mike Babcock has essentially declared it an open race between Chris Osgood and Ty Conklin imploring one of them to grab the job and protect it. Osgood has allowed a few soft goals in the last two games, but then again five of the seven goals allowed by Detroit in those games have come while a man short.
While those on-ice problems are apparent there is friction in the dressing room that the team will need to address behind closed doors as opposed to comments through the media.
Friction in the dressing room that needs to be addressed, eh?
I’m trying to think of how to address that theory. Let me try to put it delicately, since that is apparently the right way to do business these days.
Fu*& that.
I’m not going to second-guess the best coach in the NHL, especially when it’s so clear that he’s holding back already. Friction in the dressing room? Oh yes. Let’s fix that post haste. Set aside the fact that Chris Osgood has been playing goal like a drunk puppy and let’s concentrate on speaking a little more tactfully in the press.
Late breaking news: Mike Babcock is not real concerned with sensitivity. Unlike his predecessor, who had no credibility in the dressing room, he’s going to call out a player who needs it. He’s going to put that psychology degree to use and he’s going to invent some new sentence structure. Then he’s going to track down a few Diggers and he’s going to tell them what to write. And he’s going to do it with purpose.
Friction in the room? Nope. Crappy play on the ice. Five out of seven goals allowed on the PK, eh? I guess I’ll forget that old cliche about a certain player needing to be your best penalty killer.
Admitting Chris Osgood is not playing well has all of a sudden become a challenge on par with battling porn addiction in St. Louis. Why do some people have so much trouble pointing the finger at our goalie and saying he’s just plain sucked this year. What disproves that? Find me a stat, a platitude, a winning streak, anything. Find me something that points out the fact that Osgood hasn’t sucked. Maybe then I’ll understand even the most indirect criticism of the league’s best coach.
Friction in the room? Really? I guess that means that other players besides Osgood sense this “friction”? Who would that be?
Sorry Osgood apologists. I’m not buying it. Find another theory please.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
