If we were Pens fans, we’d be piling up the alibis, pointing to different injuries as to reasons why our guys can’t possibly be expected to win with any frequency.
But, thank Jebus, Santa and the patron saint of serial killers, we’re not fans of a one-trick team whose “captain” requests permission from his owner to wear powdered blue around the house.
Instead, we’re starting to take an obscene enjoyment in watching the Grand Valley Haven Rapids Detroit Griffin Wings play better team defense than we’ve seen in a year, clamp down on the PK and actually give us hope for the goaltending of the future. That’s homegrown Jimmah to you and me.
But, oh the horror. Players keep falling. I told you bitches yesterday that this wasn’t the end. Not by a long shot. Ericsson’s the latest and there will be more.
So the only thing we can do is guess who it’s gonna be.
For a $25 gift certificate from Ice Jerseys, name who it is. First tie breaker is what the injury is. Second tie breaker is anticipated time to heal. Make it specific in case that’s a deal sealer.
And don’t forget, you have to be a KK member to participate. Register here if you still need to.

Well, what else can hockey gods throw at this team? Z and Pav are the obvious choices, but I am going to go with Brad Stuart.
So here is my worst case scenario.
Brad Stuart to a shoulder injury, out for 6-8 weeks.
I hope it doesn’t happen.
Posted by George0211 on 12/15/09 at 10:23 AM ET
Eaves. Shoulder. 6-8 weeks.
i hope i lose.
Posted by Twig in Houston from Houston, TX on 12/15/09 at 10:23 AM ET
Osgood. Groin. 3 weeks.
Second choice: Ansar. Paper-cut. The Season

Posted by jeweler on 12/15/09 at 10:34 AM ET
Unibomber, lower Leg 4 weeks its the obvious choice as he’s smokin hot at the moment and most of our injuries have come just as the player hits some form (think Charlie!).

Dats, foot, 15 days, 16 hours, 19 minutes, 13 seconds
Ya, I said it.

Brad Stuart, broken foot, 4-6 weeks.
Posted by John W. from a bubble wrap cocoon on 12/15/09 at 10:38 AM ET
Evilpens: not to mention you didn’t pick the player or the amount of time on the shelf. Get your head into the game man.
Miller: broken foot. I’m not a pharmacist, I have no idea how long that would take to heal, but I’ll gander 5-6 weeks.
Posted by pilgrim from the ice at the bottom of the world on 12/15/09 at 10:39 AM ET
I think we just officially made sure that the next injury won’t be a broken foot.
Posted by pilgrim from the ice at the bottom of the world on 12/15/09 at 10:42 AM ET
I don’t even want to play. But I will. I don’t even want to mention this, but I will: Last night, someone pointed out that only two players in the No Limits commercial remain in the lineup. So I’m going to say Hank, foot, 4 weeks.
Please, please, let me lose this contest.

Isn’t it about time for Z’s back to flare up?
Z, back, two weeks.
Posted by Ian! from Somerville, MA on 12/15/09 at 10:45 AM ET
so far, every forward who has been hurt long-term has an odd number on their jersey. 11, 51, 93, 29, 43.
every defenseman has had a ‘5’. 55, 52.
so it can’t be bert, hank or rafalski. that’s why i’m offering up Eaves instead of TPH and pav.

The funny thing is, I read the last post about Ericsson going down, and no Pens fan even brought up anything about the Pens injuries being worse than the Red Wings.
In fact, one A2Y reader, “FranzensMouthguard,” said the following:
“I’ve now had three seperate pens fans give me crap for the wings being “too old” to stay healthy, I am now more than convinced that they are brainless, someone give me the median age on the guys that are hurt?”
He said that out of nowhere. Then it started off an argument between A2Y readers about who had worse injury problems, the Pens or the Wings.
I know A2Y gets ripped on for bringing up the Pens in 75% of their posts…and it looks like it may get bumped up to 80%.

Funny, who did I hear complain about injuries in June…. I wonder….
That will never be written here. Ever. Not about this series. Injuries and officiating. Injuries and officiating.

There’s only one way I can play this game and retain my sanity:
Lebda, back, 10 days
Posted by Bella on 12/15/09 at 10:56 AM ET
Homer, groin, 3 weeks
Posted by cephalopod from Chicago...nope, still not over it. on 12/15/09 at 10:58 AM ET
Hank, back, 2 weeks and a day.

Filppula. He’s gonna come back and then get hurt again. Ankle. Three weeks.
Posted by DetroitHockey on 12/15/09 at 10:59 AM ET
Draper, groin injury, misses 5 games. (is that alright or must I do it in weeks?)
Posted by it_burns_us on 12/15/09 at 10:59 AM ET
Our leading goal scorer, Homer. ACL left knee, rest of season.

Hell, Abby is just learning to be effective. I’m assuming he’s gonna go down next with “concussion like symptoms.” Out indefinitely.

If it wasn’t for the boot guards, I’d say Stuart - bruised foot. 2 games.
Instead, I’ll go with Justin Alphabetter with an “upper body injury” (shoulder) for 10 days.

Cool story, bro!
On topic:
Abdelkader. He’ll skate hard into the corner, lose an edge or be pushed, go neck-first into the boards, and be out for 3-4 weeks with a concussion.

I read what Nathan from B.C. had to say, but that hardly constitutes complaining or saying that the Pens injuries were worse than the Wings.
My post was geared more towards FranzensMouthguard, who’s “3 Pens fans” comment touched off the (semi-)argument.
That’s the beauty of blogging though. And commenting on blogs. People can make up anything as long as it sounds good.
Well, I better get back to my morning skate. I have to be on the plane to get ready to take on the Avalanche tonight. Should be a tough game. Root for me out there. I’m #52 in white.

It’s totally Stuart. He’s eating eating up all of those minutes, and he’s been a rock on the blue line for some time now. If I had the Game 7 that he had I would’ve jumped into oncoming traffic. Now he’s playing a smart game with a quiet intensity when we need it most. So obviously,

Howard, ankle, some mysterious amount of time nobody will tell us but seems to keep getting longer and longer (see: Osgood)

Jimmy Howard, broken nose, eight years (because a nose that big takes some serious time to heal, you see).
