It’s a Luongo Love Fest

Our DD’s are all over the jock of one R. Luongo this morning.
Detnews/Kulfan
There’s a different feel these days around Vancouver, and it’s easy to see why.
The acquisition of goaltender Roberto Luongo last summer has transformed the Canucks. Now, instead of trying to outscore opponents, the Canucks know they can win the close games with Luongo in net.
Freep/St. James
...but more impressive than his stats is the impact he has had on the Canucks.
“Oh, he’s changed them,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said Friday. “I mean, they used to try to race you to seven. They play now. They make it hard for you to play. Lu is one of the best goalies in the world. He gives your team confidence.
Agreed. Great goalie. Great player. Vezina. Hart. Conn Smythe. Shoulda been a Wing.
Pavel Datsyuk was rumored to be interested in joining the Caps this summer. Who “rumored” him? More on that in a second. Here’s Kulfan’s response.
Center Pavel Datsyuk laughed off an Internet rumor he was planning on signing with Washington this summer to team with Alexander Ovechkin .
Datsyuk can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his agent Gary Greenstin and the Wings have made mild progress on a new deal.
Wondering where that rumor started? Of course you are. With Sportsnet’s own laughing stock, of course.
A source told me yesterday afternoon that word among some of Datsyuk’s friends are that his dream is to play with Ovechkin and that he may take a bit less money to make it happen. The source also added, “The price that Datsyuk is giving the Wings right now is extremely high. This could be to bide time and see if the Caps are willing to get into this come July.”
It should also be noted that Ted Leonsis, the extremely progressive owner of the Washington Capitals, recently went on record saying that the team is preparing to make a very big splash this off-season. Datsyuk is a splash.
Right. Nice source. Wondering who the source could be?
Had an interesting conversation with one of the founders of On Frozen Blog (home to the greatest banner in blogdom). He brought up the idea that our boy Pavel is close to his boy Alex and that the two boys may want to play in the same tree house. Ovechkin to the Wings? Ummm, no.
Yep. That was me on 13 March. Jeez…I’ve been called lots of things, but a source for Dwayne? Shoot me now.
Datsyuk’s agent and Holland may be “getting closer.” How close? Not close enough for a deal to go down before the playoffs. No way Kenny commits the Wings to anything more than a one year deal for less than 5 before the playoffs start. And we all know why.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
