Junior Fans Are Bringing Out The Knives, While Wings Fans Want Another Win

The Hawks and their fans had a taste of succes last season making the Western Conference Finals. This season, their palate will find anything less than a Stanley Cup Finals appearance distasteful. With high expectations, comes high stress. It is a slippery slope to have expectations of Stanley Cup appearances from the outset.
Red Wings fans are blessed with the perpetual expectation of greatness, but it was not always this way. Certainly not when I became a fan. Since the Organ-I-zation hit its stride, there is no group with higher annual expectations than the Red Wings along with their fans. This is why the 19 have the Stress Train. While it barrels down the tracks, we gather in the Hasek Club to console ourselves as we imagine every possible scenario which will lead to our postseason demise.
In years past we had doubts about our goaltending and grit. This season we have doubts about overcoming that cruel bastard Jobu and how he has cursed the health and well-being of the Wings. Our playoff appearance, often a certainty, is now in doubt. Yet I believe the vast majority of the 19 remain optimistic. Heavily intoxicated, but optimistic.
In Chicago, the fans are losing their optimism and are becoming a fractured mess. Doubt is taking over and they do not have the experience to overcome it.
The knives have come out in Chicago and there is a call for blood.
While Junior’s management chose to keep Cristobal Huet instead of Khabibulin, the fans are strongly doubting their choice. Maybe doubting is too mild a word. Hawks fans are absolutely crapping their diapers with the stress of questionable goaltending and defence.
Huet looks like a house of cards ready to collapse at any moment. And while Junior is stacked with talent, they are not stacked with goaltending talent.
The same could be said of the Red Wings, but we have Osgood who has a mysterious STFU switch which he has managed to flip in the post season on a regular basis. Huet has no such switch, and Hawks fans are starting to feel the heat.
Enough of reveling in yesterday’s glory, 19, tomorrow is a new day with another huge challenge. We host the Flames who are right on our heels in the Peloton of Suck. Every game is important, especially against teams like Calgary who are waiting for us to stumble to overtake us. The entire league awaits our demise, salivating in anticipation. The Wings must spoil their appetite, and take our rightful place at the playoff table.
Recently the Red Wings have been making a statement and many are noticing, and that is troubling our enemies. The Wings are healthy, hungry, and hustling towards a playoff berth. The Wings cannot falter in any future games. There is no way to survive and make the playoffs if we lose games, especially to those caught in the Peloton of Suck with us.
The Clusterfaux to the Playoffs continues tomorrow.
Do we stay with Iggy and his Stooges to get us through another LB? That remains the only question for the 19 to answer. The rest of the answers have to come from the Red Wings.
The 19 are merely observers in this macabre spectacle of Jobu who claimed the Serial Killer as his latest victim yesterday. Stillwoozi was having his best game in a long time, and that is exactly what Jobu hates seeing. We should only pray that Dangle-Dangle’s foot is okay. If not, the 19 may succumb to the continuing kick in the nuts Jobu has been delivering. There is only so much one fan can take before breaking.
Hang on tight, bitches, this will be a wild ride to the playoffs.

We expect two things:
1. We expect to make the playoffs.
2. We expect to lose in the first or second rounds
3. We expect to win the Stanley Cup if we survive the first two rounds.
See, you were expecting two things. Always expect the unexpected.

Good one, VooX.
The Tuzzi better be okay, the last thing I want is Lebda-Ericsson on defense and Meech as a forward.
And keep Iggy, the only one who did something of value this season. (I’m still traumatized with the Zeppelin efforts…)

I was going to say Lightfoot, but the EF didn’t make it to Whitefish bay. A little Seger might be nice. But I say we milk the MC5 for all their worth.
Kick out the Jams, motherfauxers!

Scratch that, I meant to say Lilja-Ericsson. Still getting used to the Meatball.

Of course I missed some reference, but whatever. For the playoffs (we will be there) we must have two Pearl Jam songs, Alive and Yellow Ledbetter.
(yes, I’m stupid)

Heavily intoxicated, but optimistic.
Sir, I resemble that comment.
LB…Stick with the Stooges. “Iggy, Iggy, Iggy…” as Rosby would say.
Peloton of Suck…In the vernacular of bicycledumb the Wings are breaking wind and the Flames are enjoying the draft.

Well, by expecting the unexpected it becomes expected by definition so that just messes up every damn thing.

As a wings fan i know mostly we expect to be in the playoff’s but when look back on last 15-20 years, det has been pretty blessed with good luck of injuries and and guys stepping in to fill an empty spot and continue like a nothing happened so even if they don’t make the playoff’s which i am still hoping they do, we had a nice long run of good fortune and we were way over due for this kinda year.

psst…Ericsson was a forward for most of his life. Lebda/Lilja along with Ericsson up front filling in for Bertuzzi.
in fact, you could put Ericsson in a Bertuzzi jersey and nobody would know the difference. both are huge but do not play like it. both make stupid decisions with the puck, resulting in turnovers and odd-man rushes.

Speaking of which, our own Emperor, Paul, will be taking the LB duties tomorrow as per your request, bitches. Godspeed, Paul, bring us much essence.
Headphone music. Intense chill music. Epic music. Enjoy.

I just got to my hotel in the pacific time zone and do i understand wash lost to dal? I’ll have to check into that. Well written v00x!
What some apparently missed was that Bertuzzi forced the turnover, made the pass, beat every other player down the ice, and set up in front of Huet so that he didnt even see the puck flying in off Lidstroms stick and past him into the net. Of course that was followed by the second beauty assist to set up Filppula.

wow, tomorrow (technically today) is a huge game. Wings could end up in 7th or 9th, depending on how the points are doled out. ideally they’ll end up in 7th by a point over Bubba, only 4 points behind the Dive. we need Atlanta to have a good game, and Vancouver too. well, and the Wings of course.
this is the most meaningful night of games so far this season, and every night is going to mean more and more.

Godspeed You Black Emperor
Great band.
As much as what Washington did today pisses me off, it also makes me feel kind of good to know that even the best team in the league blows leads in the third period to lose games.
Posted by stayouttamalibu from Temporarily in Tempe, AZ on 03/09/10 at 03:45 AM ET
Vancouver is just a strange team. They have the highest winning percentage in the league in extra time (overtime and shootouts) (0.750), but yet the lowest percentage of their games go to extra time of any of the teams in the NHL (12.3%).
A comparison of Chicago and Detroit is interesting, too. Combining all the extra time games together each team has played 18 games of their 65 that went beyond regulation.
Detroit’s record: 6 - 12
Chicago’s record: 13 - 5
That’s seven extra points from non-standard hockey play (4-on-4 or gimmicks). Otherwise the margin would be 10 points. (And San Jose would be a lot farther ahead of the Blackhawks, too - they have five more regulation wins than Chicago and are just 7 - 9 in extras.)
Yes, sometimes when I’m bored I play with spreadsheets.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 03/09/10 at 04:40 AM ET
Vancouver is 6 - 2 in extras - forgot to mention the record.
And the only teams with a worse record winning-percentage-wise in extra time than Detroit at 0.333?
Columbus at 0.313 (5 - 11)
NY Rangers at 0.250 (3 - 9)
Toronto at 0.143 (2 - 12)
That’s it.
