Just This Once…We’re Going Juvie

Perusing the 87,000 comments at Pensblog today I staggered upon a few misperceptions.

The Wings are not the Yankees of the NHL.  An idiotic argument, considering the Cap and Tick Tock Kenny Holland’s drafting and scouting machine.  The Wings are also not the Patriots of the NHL, as our free agent signings have been limited (yet brilliant).  Other than Rafalski, who is our Randy Moss, our Junior Seau, our Dante Stalworth, etc?  Home grown (60 percent of the team), selectively dealt for (Draper, Maltby, Stuart), or signed when no one else would (Cleary, Samuelsson, Lilja).

Someone questioned the validity of my claim that we started this blog in 1977.  I’ve answered this question before, but will again.  If I was going to make up a date and try to persuade the masses it was true, wouldn’t I say something like 2004? Or 1998?  Years the internet was widely known to be in existence?  If I have to, I’ll italicize sarcastic remarks for you guys.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about, look to the right.

More.  We understand “Hockeytown” is a stale monikor.  We get it.  We also get that Detroit is run down, that the economy sucks, that the auto industry is failing.  Like I said, we get it.  Usually rival fan bases wait until they’re down at least two games to play those cards, but have at it.  You’ll be there soon.  Nothing wrong with a headstart.

The A2Y 19.  Lots chatter about that today.  They know who they are.  No explanation coming.

Now, having pointed all that out.  I have no doubt this series is going to be an exercise in stress control, and the debates here and at PensBlog (strongly suggest you check out the Wings’ cruelty to animals display. Outstanding work.) will be a welcome relief. 

Oh, and one more thing.  Arrogant? Us?  You’re damn right we are.  Check the banner at the top of the page and tell us we shouldn’t be.
