Khan(!): Cleary’s On Track

Deep Digger Captain Ansar Khan(!) let loose a torrent of literary brilliance following today’s practice. He’s all over it: Cleary (recovering), Chelios (skating), Quincey (departing) and Redmond (returning).
Cleary said he’s still hoping to play in the last three or four games of the regular season to get ready for the playoffs.
He’s lost a lot of weight being on a liquid diet after undergoing surgery on Feb. 9, having three plates and numerous screws inserted into the jaw.
“I didn’t even want to get on the scale. I usually like to play at 210, 215, so I got a ways to go,’’ Cleary said. “I got 4-5 weeks to get it back and I feel I’ll come back stronger and better than I was before I was hurt. I lost 15 pounds, but I expect it to gradually come back once my diet gets better.’‘

I sure hope Cleary comes back next year, and my gut tells me ol’ Charlie Bucket is gonna get inked. The Wings gave him his chance, he likes it here, 2.5 million dollars is a lot of freaking money, and I really, really, really, really want him too. Are those concrete enough reasons?

Second that monosyllabic rant
. I have a feeling it’ll be closer to $3 million per rather than $2.5, but those sorts of numbers should be agreeable to Cleary (and his agent). I think with him out of the lineup the organization now realizes just how important he is to the team, and will push a little further against the cap to get a deal done.

Ouch.. That’s tough on Quincey being surpassed like that by Ericsson. I guess it the size advantage plus his ability to skate on power plays that sets them apart.

I wasn’t going to comment on it until I had a chance to see him with my own two eyes and hear him with my own ears, because returns from cancer are always pretty iffy. It’s the great leveller, what with chemo, surgery, and so on, and I’ve seen too many false returns. But NASN carried the game last night and it was good to see Mick back. He’s looking and sounding damn good, and on the last ‘goal,’ he hasn’t lost any energy.
Welcome back, Mickey.
