Khan(!) On Strickland’s Claims Of Discontent

Ansar Khan, Wings beat writer for Mlive addresses Strickland in an email I received…

It’s crap. I’m going to address it a little in my blog. But I’ll just say this: Sure, Babcock’s not the loveable sort, but isn’t that why they hired him? They didn’t want another players’ coach like Dave Lewis, they wanted someone to kick these guys in the pants after two playoff flops.

I can tell you this: The front office is very happy with the way the team has played this season. They really thought they’d be struggling to make the playoffs and they feel they’ve overachieved, that Babcock has gotten the most out of them. Are there issues? Of course. The bottom line, as Babcock is fond of saying, will be how the team fares in theplayoffs.

If they get bounced early, he’s likely gone. If they win two rounds, he’ll stay. It’s as simple as that. It doesn’t matter what the players think of him; all that counts is how the team performs.

I know IwoCPO is busy today, so here is Ansar’s article at Mlive.

I don’t want to spend too much time on this, so I’ll just quickly address a couple of points. He claims Kris Draper had a major blowup with Babcock in Colorado, just before the All-Star break. Draper seemed genuinely surprised when told about this on Monday and categorically denied it. He even told Babcock about it. Babcock was also taken aback by it. And I didn’t get the sense they were trying to cover it up. Babcock said he’s had exchanges with players before (what coach hasn’t?) but he said having a problem with Draper would be like having an issue with Nicklas Lidstrom or Henrik Zetterberg.

If they thought they’d struggle to make the playoffs why is Babcock’s job in jeopardy shuld they not advance far?  Their record in itself and the team’s current position in the standing dictate that Babcock is doing something right and putting Holland in a position to trade for an impact player
