Khan(!) Sighting

Just when you think life without hockey had become all too comfortable for Deep Digger Captain Ansar Khan(!), he staggers in from nowhere to fill our heads with brilliance.  Apparently convinced the in-depth scouting reports he wrote two days after the Anaheim series aren’t quite enough to merit a consistent paycheck, MLive’s Wing beat writer is back with a vengeance.

His blog from last night is rife with nuggets of insight like this: “It’s really different,’’ Rafalski said Thursday and this:”“I got to start practicing face-offs,’’ Kopecky said; and finally, this: “It was unfortunate,’’ Drake said.

More.

Hmm…

Dunno, looks a tad “clinical” to me.

I like Khan, he is better than any other RWs beat writer except maybe Wojo

.... Kris Draper is slated to move from center to the wing and will be competing for a spot on one of the top two lines.

I.
Fecking.
Love.
It.

Man, if there is a better “I told you so,” I would love to see it.

Great job, Kenny.

I would think that the bit about Draper “competing for a spot on one of the top two lines” is true of pretty much every forward on the roster except Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom, and Filpulla. The first three are locks, and Filpulla seems highly probable. So, Draper will be competing with (in my order of preference):

- Grigorenko
- Hudler
- Franzen
- Samuelsson
- Cleary
- Kopecky
- Drake
- Maltby
- ?????

Hopefully, Iggy Griggy, Happy Hudler, and/or Franzenstein step up and grab those spots, and Draper sticks to what he does best…grinding.

The fact that, by your little ranking there, Drake, Maltby and Draper are just an injury or two away from being on a scoring line doesn’t scare you?

Filppula on a scoring line is not a comfortable position for the Wings. If Filppula is on a scoring line, the Wings are in trouble.

Holmstrom can fill in on a scoring line, but you certainly don’t want him getting 2nd line minutes on a regular basis. He’s too slow, too defensively inept and too offensively challenged to be a productive scoring line forward. He’s much better suited to playing a 3rd or 4th line shift and then being nails on the PP.

Beyond that, you’re expecting that the young, unproven, one-dimensional Euros live up to your unrealistic expectations, that Cleary can reproduce his career year (which he will not) and that Samuelsson can be even a little bit productive.

Not looking good for the Wings. Not looking good at all.

Homer is a top 6 forward on any team. He is just as good as Smyth but gets paid a helluva lot less. The Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom line last year was unstoppable.
