Kunitz Out For Ducks

Via the OC Register Ducks Blog,

The Ducks went into Sunday night’s second game of the NHL Western Conference finals at Detroit without left wing Chris Kunitz.

Kunitz, who scored the lone Ducks goal in Friday night’s 2-1 loss in the series opener, was listed as “day-to-day” with an upper body injury. Kunitz usually skates on the club’s top line with center Andy McDonald and right wing Teemu Selanne.

Not real comfortable with any report that uses past tense before the game actually starts, but hey…there’s diggers everywhere I suppose.  I’ll believe it when the lineups are announced.  Bruce MacLeod confirms it.

One would expect this to be good news for the Wings, but that is not always the case.  Let’s just assume there was a good deal of scouting and instructions regarding defending Kunitz’s tendencies.  How much does anyone know about his alternate?  Pretty tough to gather that info 1 1/2 hrs before the faceoff, and just how many lines will Carlyle juggle to cover his absence?

Ducks’ first goal Markov’s fault. He could’ve sent the puck all the way down but instead just tapped it to center ice. 1-0 Duckies.

Red Wings getting manhandled. This is embarrassing.

“The water bottle! Ohhhh, not the water bottle! Can’t see the puck even though everyone else can! Waaah! We’re Versus. Go Ducks…er, I mean…dammit. Uh…bullriding!”

Coming into the third with a clean sheet of ice up two men in a tied game.  Its a miracle the Wings are tied…or its the “grease” Babcock likes to talk about.

Go Wings!  YOU MUST SCORE IN THE FIRST MINUTE OF THE THIRD.

Wow, I am surprised at the reaction so far. Embarrassing? No. The Ducks are a hell of a team, but I see the Wings getting stringer as the game progresses - better shots, better quality chances, and Dom is as steady as ever.

Put ‘em away in the third, Wings!

Where the heck are all these goals coming from?  What do they think this is, the Eastern Conference?

Could someone explain how Anaheim’s 3rd goal was a goal, considering the rulebook says that a goal is disallowed if a goaltender is pushed into the net with the puck?

He wasn’t pushed. He inexplicably dove backwards - probably thinking the puck was behind him. Can’t help but think that if he had just laid on his back without moving this game would be over right now.

The Wings look tired (except for Lidstrom and Chelios - how the hell do they do that?) - they can’t afford these penalties.

Hasek fell back, but he wasn’t going to slide that far back into the net without help from the Anaheim player.  Bad call.
