Following a solid effort against Los Tiberones, the tide may have begun to turn for the Red Wings.
Then again, it may not. Kronwall is out again. Apparently Jobu is still alive.
Four unanswered goals is a refreshing change. A comeback with a solid effort for 50 minutes of shut-down hockey.
Is Puck Possession hockey beginning to return to Detroit? Or can the team only only rise up to the challenge against tough teams, losing easy points against easy teams?
Well, I’m no pharmacist, but I’m also not a pessimist. This is my team, and I will stand by them until my last breath.
We are facing our bitter rivals, the *ucks. Albeit neutered without the knuckle-dragging neanderthal, Chris Pronger, the *ucks are no ordinary rivals. And our song for the evening is no ordinary song.
I’ve decided to reach into the annals of soul music to find a piece of optimism. Beautiful, sweet optimism. A reminder that although things have not been what we would have liked so far, never, never, never, never give up.
I believe last night’s effort was a collective effort between all 18 players (17 in the third period, Fuch you Jobu) and our coaching staff. The team was hungry and tenacious checking deep into the opponent’s zone. Something absent for far too long.
I believe the Wings are turning a corner. And I refuse to let negativity enter my mind tonight as we face the *ucks.
I’d like to see two convincing victories back-to-back for the first time in a long time. And I know I’m not the only one.
A quick H2H update. Our ticket block is now SOLD OUT, bitches, simply amazing stuff.
From Jennyquarx, one of the 19’s resident Super Grrrls:
I have no more tickets left. People can get them through Ryan Michaels at the DRW ticket office - his number is on the H2H website. If people are NOT going and have RSVPed, they need to let me know ASAP. IF people are going and have not paid, they need to do that by 2/21/10 or their tickets will be released back in to the general pool. People can STILL get them through Ryan after that for the same price, but I can’t be left hanging for money and I need to pay Ryan. So please let the 19 know this.
The Hockeytown Cafe money needs to get paid to me too. The sooner the better.
The hotel rate for our block of rooms is only good until 2/23 so if people need that, they need to email me ASAP and take care of this.
Please have people check the website often. We have some kick ass stuff for the prize drawing, stuff that is not listed yet but will be soon (that we just got confirmation for) that you all will FREAK OUT over. So please check often, tell your friends, tell the world.
If you can’t help with money, help by spreading the word:
Herm 2 Hockeytown Website
Please pay for your ticket and Hockeytown Cafe deposit (if coming) as soon as possible, if you haven’t already:

Leave your pessimism at the door, Red Wings faithful only tonight. And the faithful know there is always hope.
It’s a Live Blog, bitches. I hope you’ve rested for another Left Coast game in the town that Disney built.

what’s with the depressing video full of disasters?

Good old Sam Cooke, a velvet voice. Died too young. Anyhoo… I will settle for a well played game tonight but would like a point or two.

what’s with the depressing video full of disasters?
There were only a couple of videos I could find with that song that was actually being sung by Sam Cooke and not a cover. Unfortunately, they were both really glum.
Listen to the words and music, ignore the visuals. Like Stevie Wonder does, who I’m watching at the White House right now, receiving the Library of Congress Gershwin Award from President Obama.
You’ll definitely be hearing from Stevie in the future, bitch.

so hey A2Y friends.
i took a stab at my first member blog. i thought it was perhaps a better way to post a long rant than simply as a comment on an A2Y thread… but as of now, I don’t think anyone’s even seen it. nobody’s left a comment, that’s for sure.
could be a controversial entry around these parts… curious what you all think about the issue
Here is a link.

No LB tonight, too late for this guy. So do me proud, 19. Immature and intelligence, Immature and intelligence.
Our enemies have no idea what hit them when we get ‘em with Immaturity and intelligence.

Are those Jimmah’s? I’m pretty sure I saw that same scrotum make a save late in the third yesterday (or this morning, I guess.)

Took a look at it, nice work. Although I have to disagree with your proposal to let Maltby go. Tick Tock rewards loyalty and is loyal himself.
What would my suggestion be? Well, I’m too stupid to think of all the options and it makes my brain hurt just trying to comprehend the decisions Tick Tock will make.
I’m glad to let the experts make the decisions in the best organ-I-zation in sports. I’m not the president, but I am a fan.

not at all. “easy read” can be interpreted as “even though it was a lot of words, it wasn’t too many, as it was an ‘easy read’.”

Starting the LB early eh? Trying to pad your stats eh? I see through your ruse.
The only way I’m on board with getting rid of Leino right now is if we can pull a high draft pick for him. Otherwise, his potential is a bit to tantalizing still. I’d rather lose Meech for nothing. Between him and waiving May, we’re back under the cap.
I’m also a bit curious to see just how long Lils and Franzen’s LTIR time drag out. Every game (or is it day?) they’re on the LTIR, their cap hit goes down. At this point, each day they’re out is almost a good thing. Regardless, I think the roster spot is a bigger problem than the cap.

Busted.
Actually I won’t be able to watch the game tonight, have to watch it tomorrow off the DVR. I just wanted to stop by with some Sam Cooke before I had to take off.

I’m really waffling on the H2H game. I want to go, but I don’t want to drive the 9.5 hours by myself. I also have no idea how much the Hockeytown Cafe deposit is, so added to the price of the ticket (and my shitty financial situation), things are looking glum.
Flarp.

The way the cap works, as I understand it, is pretty simple- you add up all the annual salaries of all the active players on the roster, and you can’t go over the limit. It gets complicated with situations like the Red Wings’, where they’ve got a bunch of injured players, and they signed Drew Miller mid-stream, etc, but the simple fact remains: with Lilja and Franzen returning soon, they have to shed salary. it doesn’t really matter how long they take to get back, once they’re back they count against the cap, and once they do we’re over it unless something else changes.
You can also look at it as a one-for-one swap: other people are using up the roster/cap space of Lilja and Franzen, and once the regulars return the temporary help gets the boot.
The only way to bring back Lilja and/or Franzen and not move anyone else would be to leave them on LTIR until the playoffs. There is no salary cap in the playoffs.

Posted by calquake on 02/03/10 at 09:27 PM ET
Of course there’s probably some shitbag rule about the roster, the trade deadline, people who are injured past a certain date can’t play until such and such, who knows.

Dude, I shoulda taken a pic… the other day I saw a huge ass 3/4 ton diesel Ford with big ass tires etc… swinging from the rear hitch reciever were a pair of actual nuts (like that go on a bolt) hanging from 4” of chain painted John Deere Greene.
Funny.

You know what I loved about last night’s game? They looked dangerous. Especially Pav’s and Z. They came into the offensive zone with balls blazing. Awesome. I watch every game on center ice, first time in a long time that they looked like that, Fuching dangerous.
They’ll keep it up tonight, bitches.

They might have been brass - trickier to find hardware in brass or stainless steel, but you can find them if you hunt around the hardware aisles.
@ Red -
The deposit for the Hockeytown Cafe party is $20.
Is there someplace halfway where you could take a break each way, so it wouldn’t be an unbroken drive? That might be a little easier on you.

Monkey, the only quibble I’d have with your take on the salary cap is that theannual “hit” is the average salary over the contract rather than the each year’s actual annual salary so someone who is on a 5 year deal making 3, 3, 2, 2, 1 is a hit of 2.2 per year.
You’ve got the rest of it right on.

Not really—not that wouldn’t cost even more money. This whole thing is hinging on me being able to scrape together the money, and the generosity of my extended family, who I haven’t contacted yet about staying with.
I’m a procrastinator of extraordinary magnitude, and one of these days it’ll bite me in the ass.
