LB: Strange Things Come From Nashville

We are in the midst of an identity crisis.

While you may think I am talking about the recent Jekyll and Hyde of the Wings, who can look like world beaters one day and wife beaters the other, I am not.  We already know about that.

The 19, the MSM, and the Wings’ management all know about our strange schizophrenia.  And we have been discussing it all year.

This time, I am talking about the identity crisis coming from Nashville.

On the one hand they are the home of country music.  And beat up pick up trucks.  And wives that keep leaving.

Thanks to Li’l Gary they are also the home of an NHL franchise, or a team that pretends to be.  But most shocking of all, and what leads me to question the sanity of the city of broken geetar strings is this:

Yup, right in the heart of Nashville lies a full size replica of the Parthenon.  I bet it gets more attendance per year than their hockey club does.  Because you know Nashville is the epicenter of classic culture.

So while Nashville undergoes their identity crisis, the Wings are undergoing their own.  They can’t decide if they are or are not a playoff team.

The Red Wings have the potential to be champions every season, but whether they live up to it will determine how many of the 19 will be walking out on ledges this April.  We love to be brash and bold at A2Y but this season I am feeling like a beaten puppy.  Not sure whether to wag my tail or piss all over the rug.

In the meantime, the Wings will determine the way they are remembered this season.  As a team who overcame everything that Jobu could do to us, or a team that wallows in its own miserable play.

When in doubt, I will go with tried and true.  Iggy and his Stooges return tonight.  We need the win and Motown punk has brought us them so far.

We are just a passenger on the Stress Train now, Uncle Mike and the Wings will determine where we go.

That Parthenon was featured in the movie ‘Nashville’.
On the DVD, with the director interview etc., they mentioned that it was originally constructed as a temporary structure for some Nashville special event with paper mache.  After the event it was cherished so much they decided to make it a permanent structure.

I don’t understand everyone wanting to gut the team and rebuild because of the pissy VAN game.  It was the first game back from a road trip,  and the Wings have a history of coming up flat in those about 3/4 of the time.

Tonight should be different.

I believe in a 5 game Red Wings win streak even though I haven’t seen one either.

Agreed, for the first time this year Uncle Mike has spoken out to the MSM about it as well… himself included. They can’t run and hide now, basically a carpet call was extended to everyone on the ice and behind the bench.

True. It’s not like we’re lacking in talent. Then again there may be only a few of us old timers that remember the dark, ” Darkness with Harkness” era.

Or for that matter, the entire 45 years leading up to 1997. This is not as bad as some may think.
The Wings will be there. Count on it.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

That’s what I was thinking, although it was just one game but after a 2 week break.  I agree with J.J. earlier that I smell win tonight.

I don’t know how many were talking about gutting the team, but the list yesterday of questionable returns for next year was not a bad guess, including Bert no matter how much I try to look at his accomplishments to outweigh the every game turnovers.

I was an adolescent in the late 70’s and early 80’s - - I remember the Dead Things - - prtty vividly - - despite some haze induced games at the JLA.

It was the best of times (for me), it was the worst of times for the Wings.

Anyone remember Illitch sponsoring Score-O for new cars - - just to get fans in the Joe?

Voox, I’ll go ya one better…Strange things come from Manhattan. As in the “choreographer”  half of the Christmas Fairies (‘member them?), having failed miserably in his third attempt to make it stick in the big city, showed back up on my doorstep this week. Stuck on Stupid, and penniless.

And I thought they wouldn’t move back home after they hit 30. He’s sleeping on the sofa in my man cave, and there are Wonder Woman coasters on my coffee table. His Brian Boitano sequined shirt is hanging in the closet, and actually touched my “19” sweater.

Somebody kill me. Please. He’ll probably start decorating tomorrow.
